@@byealex7607 The thing is, Chinese is way more formal than English. That's why even something considered normal in English would be thought of as inappropriate and disrespectful in Chinese. In this context, "gege" could be translated as "bro/buddy", but in English it's quite normal to refer to your friends and sometimes even strangers like that. On the other hand, in Chinese it should only be used between actual brothers or friends you are _very_ close with, which arguably, those two aren't at that point. Which is why I'm gonna go out on a limb here (I hope I don't get killed) and compare "gege" to calling your male friend "babe". Do people do it? Not really. Would other people look at you funny if you did? Yeah. Can you do it as a joke when you're really close with your friend? Yeah! What if it's not a joke and your friend turns out to really be your partner? That makes it cute and endearing. And it's not a joke and they really are each other's babes. :) So I hope this gives you some kind of an idea of how it sounds in Chinese.

Here's the thing. In the series, wwx and lwj almost never call each other by their courtesy names, even after the time gap. (I saw this in a comment that's also on here with the total amount of times they say each other's names, but) Wei ying calls lwj "lan wangji" (his courtesy name) only five times over fifty episodes, and Lan Zhan called him wei wuxian ONCE. This doesn't seem like anything, but then you look at the other characters and their relationships with others. In the entire show, Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan, who are one of the only canon couples in the untamed, never call each other by their birth names, despite being "engaged." (This is either because it's never mentioned at all or just not mentioned in the live action version.) Then Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji, who are BIOLOGICAL brothers (I think), also only call each other by their courtesy names, or Hanguang Jun and Zewu Jun respectively. The best friends, everyone's favorite junior quartet, also call each other by their names, except for jin ling, who hasn't reached the age for it (otherwise most people would call him Jin Rulan.) For example, Lan Sizhui is almost never called A-Yuan by his closest friends or even his "brother," Lan Jingyi, but only by his father figures, Lan Zhan and Wei Wuxian (plus Wen Ning, but only because he asked to). Historically, in China, given names were only used by immediate family, *romantic partners*, and close friends. Lwj and Wwx are not sworn brothers, and while they are close friends, they're most definitely more, despite what chinese censorship might tell you. (Literally everyone knows that the book's the gayest thing in existence, the live action adaptation doesn't change that.) In conclusion, them using their given names for each other is a dead giveaway that they're fucking in love, and I do not take criticism. Thank you for this unnecessarily long analysis of given names vs. courtesy names and the gayness of using each.

WWX calls LWJ “Hanguang Jun” in (snide) greeting, and when he works LWJ into such anger that he yells “!WEI WUXIAN!” to which WWX v-e-r-y menacingly low-key responds, “Lan WangJi”. It was terrifying. WY sounded so hyper at times and calmer on other times; but funnily LZ voice is rather haunting to me. 4:01 is my saddest WYLZ moment in the whole series. When WY got dropped into Burial Mounds by WenChao, LZ called out WY names 3 times, must be him using the skill to track WY. What an unforgettable series! Love #TheUntamed so much! ❤️🙆🏻‍♀️💚

I almost vomit 😂 SERIOUSLY !! It was too much of'Lan zhan'... For Wei Wuxian's character there is "Lan Zhan" almost in every duologue.. But compared to the amount of sentences he had had in script, 'Lan zhan' was a too little.. Hats off for the actor ❤️
