I just realized what you did via that backup command line. You're obviously a NIX powerhouse, but you'll use the same live image to copy it back, if needed? Like all of your videos, I learned another thing. Thank you!

Yes - I used DD to image the hard disk to my external USB drive... then if I ever need to go back to windows or factory stock, I can use DD to copy the image from the external USB drive back. (and if I really wanted to get sneaky, I could mount that image on a loopback device and explore the filesystems inside)

If you add “status=progress” without the quotes at the end of your dd command, you’ll get a progress bar of the job.

Steve, I am fighting with my monster. As you saw I created a dual boot system and had linux resize the windows partition. It works okay but I am getting a mariadb error and my cps for the radioddity db25-d will no longer read the radio. So odd. Any ideas? 73 - KC5CNT.

Whenever I search for some fix to a linux problem, the answer always comes up in relation to Ubuntu. Additionally, in the corporate world its Ubuntu or RedHat/CentOS. No other reason. Fedora used to be my favorite until the corporate world forced me into Ubuntu.

Still trying to figure out what is best substitute for the Pi since it's scarce and overpriced these days. I was thinking of using the x86 version of Debian - Bullseye for Build-A-Pi. I thought that this would be closest to resolve issues with any scripts related to differance fo arm & x86 procs.

@@JM-mv7sv this laptop works freat for gam radio and there are lots of ham radio Linux apps. It's not a screaming performer! Buts it's as good/better than a Pi4 (see my other video)

I installed Linux on one of mine. No issue. However, DO NOT CHANGE STUFF IN THE BIOS. I installed a LInux that includes all the Ham Software. I believe something that Kevin Loughin had shown on his channel. Worked great and I installed and built the WiFi driver on it. Pretty easy.

Why waste time and storage backing up a windows install on a device like this? Could you not just backup the driverstore in case you want the drivers it came with (though basic windows install disc/drive will have all needed drivers, you aren't gonna need very specific drivers like you would with a gpu or unique device)?

Is yours the "Captain Awesome" Distro? 😄 That Fengtop is not worth posting here with import duties etc. I will probably get a MS Surface 4, i5, 8gb ram, 256gb SSD. Ram soldered but hdd can be replaced. That model take 12V DC @2.58A, 30W so should be ideal for my ham needs. Other model and CPU variations take higher voltages so not suitable for pota etc.👍

This Evolve is a weird beast in terms of power it accept though to be honest. Even though the included power supply is a 12-volt (same kind of thing you get with external hard drives minus the barrel size change), it's able to accept anything up to 24-volt. I use a cheap Amazon USB-C converter that forces 20-volt, and it still charges like a dream.

The Maestro's wireless NIC sucks, I ended up using a tp-link wifi dongle so I could get the 5 Ghz.

I haven't used the wifi enough to notice a problem. I started my quest to fix the internal wifi by using an edimax dongle... so I still have that to fall back on if needed.
