I trained to work undercover but back out, and backed out of the police entirely. The training itself was such that it was basic police training for obvious reasons with this as extra, basically they what it seemed to me was trying to create a monster. It scared me away and looking at his face both midway and the 9min mark hes seen some terrible things. Done some maybe too

As a former cop I always had great respect for those who did full-on undercover work. Anyone in the police can put on civvies for a couple of hours or qualify to be plainclothes detective. To actually take on a new persona full-time in the company of dangerous criminals is a seriously difficult role with the chance of exposure always there. I never did it myself but can see the mental strength required. This guy says he did the same job for over two years. Imagine leaving your own life for two years to be in the company of serious criminals and maintaining your false name and avoiding bumping in to someone who knows your real identity and is unaware of the role you are immersed in.

I worked with an undercover cop doing the same work as this guy. It's horrible work. You lose yourself, you get hooked on drugs, you commit crimes to show you're part of it. In the end, they spit you out. The system doesn't look after you. My friend was in a squad of 12. 6 died from suicide.

Not to mention, in Afghanistan you aren't alone, you have your unit with you at the very least, if not more, as well as things like close air support. Undercover cops don't have the luxury of being able to call in an A-10 (The best, most survivable ground attack aircraft to ever take to the skies.) to strafe the enemy with a 20mm vulcan cannon, or with air-to-surface missiles and rockets, or to drop some bombs on the enemy. I'd definitely agree it's a lot more dangerous to be an undercover than it is to be in Afghanistan. There's also the fact that most criminals are more intelligent, and better shots than Haji is... unless were talking about African American gang bangers, who can't read, can't speak English, and who don't even know how to hold their firearms, and don't understand what the sights are, or how to use them... and who can't run away very well because they don't have the full range of motion in their legs since the waist of their pants is down at the knees, and they frequently trip over them. They're hardly more dangerous than Haji, but real organized crime, such as the Italian, or Jewish, or Russian mafia groups, and the Latin American Cartels, are far more dangerous to infiltrate than Haji is to fight on the battlefield.

Have lived there for a whle and the area is full of drug crime, and Woolwich Tunnels are often bottle neck places to catch them too,gateway to North Kent, police often do road checks etc. Druggies hang round the playgrounds and a few months I walked past a tent surrounded by police as someone had been stabbed. I spoke to a local and he said that few people call the police when something happens, for a variety of reasons, crime just gets worse here. It is a very anonymous place. It is also handy to the airports so a good escape route. Some police in the area have been known to do crash for crash time and were arrested. I used to enjoy my walks to the tunnel as it was so edgy. I had no problem with the police while I was there at all but you get bad apples everywhere, I think I know more bad apple vicars than the police.

Something really interesting and noteworthy about this is that, amongst the few good apples who have served in the police and who speak out, you will often hear them say that the only time they truly feared for their lives was when they were investigating corruption within the police itself, i.e. other police officers. The cops who go into this hardcore undercover stuff go up against some of the most violent and nasty gangsters out there, who deal in drugs, guns, humans (including kids) and are always at risk, yet investigating themselves is what amounts to the most dangerous police work they could undertake. This tells us something, and when we know that organised crime have their people within the police at various levels, on probably every force, then there is no way we can truly trust them.

I doubt there would be as much corruption within the Toronto police. Toronto has 1/5th of the population of London, a dramatically lower crime rate and higher HDI rating, and has a government known to be much more transparent than that of the UL government.

I honestly believe that there are thousands of police officers around the UK who are of the mindset that, we can do whatever the Castlemaine XXXX we like, nobody can touch us or they know that the body set-up to deal with the matter is so far behind the times, and so understaffed and inept that the risk of them ever being caught or forced to face any consequences for their misdemeanors is almost non-existent. I honestly don't believe that the Police have the sort of numbers in terms of available staff required to weed out all the corrupt officers. Sad state of affairs..

I was an undercover cop from 1976-1979, I worked when there were no telephones, computers and not even a concealed or disguised Police radio in my vehicle and no walkie-talkie. I was never forced to use drugs, I used it if I needed to. I always worked alone. No training and initially no way to defend myself except to run, I never ran no matter what. I infiltrated groups I identified as possible targets for all manner of offences. Being introduced into a group by a fizz is the most dangerous part of getting connected. It was necessary to make that fizz fear you more than he feared his supplier because it could be a feather in his cap to expose the UCO to cement his position in the cartel.

The Prussian Probably not confidential, if it was prosecuted against it would've been very public news. I have a feeling that the corruption case was the reason he left the force, I reckon the case failed and he was exposed or something to that effect which forced him to leave and I also believe that the things he saw in that case, which (in my theory suggests was never prosecuted against) alongside his previous work took its toll on him and forced him into mental deterioration. Just a theory but I don't think it's classified

I have travelled on the Woolwich Foot Tunnel and been on that ferry. That ferry is not there anymore, they got replaced fairly recently with brand spanking new ones (though they don't often work and the staff are often on strike). I have met some of the police there and some of them were quite helpful.
