@@stue2298 I was thinking of UFC and all combat sports - pro wrestling is theatre rather than a sport, and I'd say it has a weird skill set (or at least used to). When it started, the idea was to look like you were hurting someone while doing the least damage to them. Modern era it's got more in common with something like Jackass with people trying to be seen doing something painful! I wasn't being dismissive of UFC, just that the idea that if you can see a 3 year old doing a basic version of something disqualifies it as a sport, he ought to look in his own province first!

Not to mention that football does not care about your physical characteristics. You do not need to be at least 6 feet tall to be competitive like in American sports. Leo Messi is short af. Peter Crouch looks like a praying mantis. Adama Traore looks like a UFC fighter and Romelu Lukaku looks like a heavyweight boxer. Your physique doesn't matter for playing professional football as long as you have the talent, passion and put in the hard work. So everytime they wanted to play something during recess, without fail, they would crush a cola can and used that as the ball 😂 then used the table as posts with no keeper. It's basically just a hockey puck you play with your foot. No matter what grade you were, that's the go-to leisure activity.

A football pitch is massive, the distance between the goals is immense, a hockey rink is far smaller and they have skates to get around much quicker. The thing i like the most, is how diverse football players are, physically. Like everyone is able to play a "basic" football. Super low skill entry. But super high skill ceiling. And you are right about the scores not being super high, is an indicative of a quality game. Like back in the days, defense wasn't really so structured, and the average goals per match were much higher. Also, they didn't have offside, which helped with that aswell.

You can't understand how hard is to control a ball thrown from 30 yards away while running with the opponent full speed... it's not only that you have to control it the best way you can, you also have to hide it from the rival so he doesn't take it before you can make your second touch... Luke, your explanation is reminding me to my elementary years. The simple days when it was 3 pm after school, wearing the school uniform, heavy rain, muddy field, no sideline nor markings on the field, only bags and tree as the imaginary goal posts, play as defender, shoot the ball from 10-12 meters away and scored. In a culture that plays football (soccer) children and adults get any ball, even a tennis ball and play a game together called a kickaround. I worked in a warehouse where the blokes had taken some industrial grade shrink-wrap (saranwrap) and compressed it, then bound it with duct tape to form a rough ball for kickarounds in their lunch breaks. When a player in a professional game that you’re watching gets the ball, you vicariously feel that you are running with him. When he shoots at the goal you vicariously feel that release. If it goes in you explode with the jubilation of the score. If it misses you feel the sudden dejection of missing. I don’t know about American sports but football engages the emotions. The heights of emotion of winning and the depths of emotion of losing. The constant worry that YOUR team will drop down the league, perhaps into the relegation zone. It’s personal, it’s emotional, it’s visceral.

As a kid, I spent hours just kicking a ball against a wall from five yards or so. Great way to improve first touch and technique. There’s also no better feeling in sports (IMO) than when you finally master a half-volley and the ball fires off your foot like a cannon. Already said this is another video months ago, but it is still so cool for me too see someone that's absolutely new to (playing) the sport trying it out, as a south american I'm used to seeing everyone be at least halfway decent at it (like being able to make a decent pass), as pretty much everyone played it growing up at some point or another.. finding a grown man that has never kicked a ball before here is pretty much impossible. A tip you can use that every Brazilian player learned in Futsal is to most of the time use the sole of the foot to control the ball, instead of kicking the ball around. This way you keep the ball closer to your body and have much more control on where you are sending the ball to. Kickign the ball in conduction is only better when sprinting fast.

this is also specially usefull when you try to control a strong low pass. put the sole of your feet in a 45 ish degree angle and let the ball hit the space in between your sole and the gound. Marcelo (Brazilian Left Back) is a master at this kind of ball receiving.

Bit of advice if u see this comment, your doing fantastic its so great to see. Try trapping/ controlling the ball with your left foot and kicking against the wall with your right foot and visa versa. Its a fantastic way to improve ball control and closer simulates a game. It will also encourage the use of the inside of the boot and proper kicking technique. 🙌 Im not pro but ive played at a pretty decent level and u cant beat the basics 😁

Love the videos and your journey as a player and fan COYS. One tip I would give after watching you practice passing off the wall is to lock your ankle and focus on basically pushing the inside of your foot through the ball, not letting your toe come back forward until after the ball has left your foot and you are starting the follow through. This will allow you both more consistent accuracy and power on your passes. You have already made great strides and will continue to improve with the hard work you are putting in.

The great thing about football is that anyone can play it, and there's nothing more natural than kicking a ball. Yet, to play it well requires very advanced skill set, athleticism , awareness, and intelligence. Football players are extraordinary. We, human use our hand for almost everything. Yet our favourite sports requires to play with our feets. It changes everything. Because you need to be precise with every touch (the higher the level the less forgiving your opponents will be), you need to be quick (decisions making). And you need to do this during high intensity run or just being tired from the game. And that's just talking about the football with the ball. You've got another bunch of stuff going on without the ball whether you are defending or a teammates got the ball.

I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with my advice a few videos back when I advised you to just kick a ball against a wall and work on your touch, but I am so happy to see you doing it in a video. It's funny that Dana White thinks bigger goals means more goals, if he even read the stat sheets of some games of football, he would realise more goals get scored in 5 a side matches than 7 a side matches and more goals get scored in 7 a side matches than 11 a side matches. The larger pitch means the ball is in play more often and it takes more skill to work the ball towards the goal, the smaller the pitch, the more likely you are to have the possibility of scoring from your own half, the less time it takes to get the ball to the other end etc. This is the same sport we're talking about. Does football all of a sudden become more skilful because we moved to a smaller pitch and therefore more goals occurred?

It’s interesting. I can’t remember how or when I fell in love with Football. What I do know is that it’s one of those things that’s always been there. I don’t remember a time before I was aware of it. I went to my first game when I was 6 (I do know that Newcastle was my team because I’m from Newcastle and that was it they HAD to be my team. The concept of choosing a team didn’t exist). I’ve never played organised football. But like most fans (in the UK at least) from being a few years old you had ‘kickabouts’ with friends in the school playground, at the local park, in your street or backlane. Even sometimes kicking a ball against a wall by yourself. You’d play at school once or twice a week in PE or Games lessons. I was never any good but I enjoyed it. Watching and playing was a constant, but then unlike in the U.S it transcends being a sport. It’s part of our culture. Whoever that Dana bloke is, he clearly doesn’t get it. However I don’t think you have it quite right yourself. You say it’s down to skill, it is, but not they way you said it. By your rationale you’d see lower and non league games as high scoring affairs and they generally aren’t. The score lines are similar throughout the game because generally teams are playing other teams of the same or a similar level. It’s more the whole nature of the game, they way it’s played, the tactics, the size of the pitch, the fact that regardless of how a goal is scored. 1 goal = 1 point. It’s fair enough if he doesn’t like football and if he doesn’t understand it - again fine, there’s a number of sports that I don’t like and just don’t get, but to say they lack skill is just crazy. Incidentally the main host of the Newcastle KZbin channel I ‘mod’ for used to be a professional Ice Hockey goalie and represented Great Britain would probably take issue with his comments too!

Had so much fun growing up playing with friends after school. Mostly small sided games like a 3v3. We used sweatshirts as goal posts. You could make the goals small to not have anyone in goal. I remember one Nike football commercial series using a 3v3 first-goal-wins format, those commercials were great fun to watch. Maybe you could do a reaction to them.

Hey luke, great video! Just a tip: When doing those short passes you should strike the ball as your foot is going downward. So your foot should begin the motion higher and move towards the ground. This ensures the ball doesnt bobble/go up, making the bounce back easier to control!

I have a tip for your pass skill, it's quité easy to correct and makes your passes like three times better. At the moment you touch the ball to pasa, make sure that the foot you use to stand points to the exact direction you wanna give to the ball, always point with your standing foot. As a young kid, I spent hours kicking a football against a wall, or keeping it up in the air, if there was no one else to play with. Much more fun than playing a computer game in my bedroom. Following England women's Euro win, I now see young girls doing the same thing , which is great. To have a game, all you need is a flat surface and a ball. Football is not just for people playing the game themselves. One of the greatest joys in the world is just grabbing a ball with some friends and go to the pitch at a local club. I don't know what it's called elsewhere but "zestienen" (meaning 16-ing, referring to the size of the 16meter penalty box) is a game where you need just two feet and hands and you have to take turns shooting the ball at goal from outside the penalty box. Everyone starts with 10 points, and everytime someone scores the GK loses a point, if you miss it's your turn on goal. Speed is essential, if you miss and are not positioned in the goal in time it's your loss. But like dana white said, even 3 year olds can do it, so everyone is welcome and we don't abuse lack of skill, except when Dana comes to play cause he wouldn't stand a chance against my 12yo nephew.

i like ur argument about high scoring, its good to hear it from an american, reminds me of how the nba changed the rules to make defense impotent so offensive players could score more, yet ratings are now so low in the nba... because without resistance offense loses its meaning, when there were more restrictions and defense was allowed to be stiffer without carrying and travelling for offense etc it creates the diamonds of offense like MJ who thrive under the pressure causing the whole world to stop and notice, rather than just stat padding and the few fans who're left being calculating stat merchants... football has the widest range of levels and body sizes who can excel at it, and cos its so easy to pick up yet difficult to master, your gran can kick a ball but theres so many layers in between her level and and that of a superstar lol and thats the magic of it... like u say, sport is something you feel, so its good you're expanding your appreciation of the beautiful game...

This is the perfect video to repost : I think the problem americans have with football is that many of them have probably never tried to play it (especially 11-on-11). so even if they try to get interested in the sport by watching a game, they'll quickly become bored and annoyed by the "passivity" of the players and the backward/short passes on the pitch. The concepts of match rhythm, momentum, technical and mental skill (first touch, positional awareness, vision, etc.) and team strategies go right over their heads. If hockey field is big as a football field, I don't think they have higher score either. Hockey, basketball, futsal have higher score because they have small field so they always more closer to the net, that's mean u have more chances to score, not to mention hockey and basketball play with hand so it is more easy to control.

Should anyone ever ridicule you for kicking the ball against a wall, tell them that the Kaiser himself, the one and only Franz Beckenbauer, once said that a backyard wall had taught him clean passes. The ball only came back to you if your pass was clean, otherwise it bounced somwhere and you had to chase it. BTW: While most coaches are former players, there are notable examples. The foremost of them is probably Arrigo Sacci, coach and mastermind of the brilliant AC Milan squad of around 1987 to 1990. He was such an ungainly player that even the small local club of his hometown rejected him. But his passion for the game would not have this, so he persuaded them to let him coch them. His AC Milan is still remembered as one of the most inspiring teams to ever grace the European circuit.

You explain it perfectly. When you start to play it you understand how hard are a lot of things. I'm Argentine. I grow up kicking improvised balls, so is different for mes. But I xab tell you one thing: Don't worry about your kit. If you dont have the right boot or the right shirt. There is like a rule of thumb here. 1. If a player comes dress with the entire kick of one of the big teams (shirt and shorts) he is surely awful. If he even has the socks then he is unredeemable and will be the worst player in the pitch. 2. If he is wearing the shirt of some foreign team, not very common, he is going to run the entire game. May not be very skillful but he is going to be lungs and the motor of the team. 3. If he is wearing the shirt of a second division national team beware! He is an axe. He will kick balls or legs with complete indifference. He doesn't lack skill, just that he is used to relay in clinical violence as much as precise passing. Breaking jaws, ribs or legs is natural part of the game for him. Useful nonetheless. 4. If he is wearing a faded construction brand white t-shirt. Or worst, if the shirt is stained with old paint. This guys is a crack. He is Messi in his prime. He will dribble with ridiculous ease. His shots will be strong and always on target. And if he is skinny and short he will be impossible to take down even with worst and malignant tackle.
