Cooper's Ferry Site

This video features discussion of the kinds of tools used to excavate at the Cooper's Ferry site. Also, the effect of animal burrowing on archeological deposits and how they are handled during the excavation process is discussed. The infilled tunnels left behind by burrowing animals are called krotovina (sounds like crow-toe-vee-na).
Dr. Loren Davis, Associate Professor,
oregonstate.edu/cla/anthropolo...
at Oregon State University and David Sisson, Archeologist, at the BLM Cottonwood Field Office
www.blm.gov/id/st/en/Districts... are working together to recover information about past life ways at the Cooper's Ferry archeological site. Students from the Oregon State University Cooper's Ferry Archaeological Field School
oregonstate.edu/cla/anthropolo...
uncover artifacts that help us understand what life was like for people who occupied the lower Salmon River Canyon thousands of years ago.
A summary of the culture history of this area can be found at: www.blm.gov/id/st/en/Districts...

When you're talking about archaeology, the most important tool you saw was the trowel he was using. Specifically it was a marshalltown, considered by most american archaeologists to be the gold standard and, in fact, a status symbol in the field. Those can be purchased online, or in stores like rural king.

The city of San Francisco has a law that whenever a building is torn down before construction of the new commences, all work stops & the contractor has to notify University of California & they send in a team & do a historic excavation of the site as SF is history rich. !
