The Execution Of The Guillotined Torturer Of Buchenwald

Buchenwald Concentration Camp was a horrific and brutal site of torture and execution during the Second World War, and over 50,000 prisoners never made it out of the camp alive. But one of the most horrific guards was an SS official named Wilhelm Schäfer. He was responsible for the execution squads and he also got involved in the torture of the camp administering hundreds of floggings. But Schäfer also was known for executing prisoners inside the Neck Shooting Facility.
It was believed he had thousands of victims but at the end of the war, Schäfer cut out his SS blood tattoo and he burned his uniform and tried to evade capture. He was arrested over 15 years after the war had ended and was tried being condemned for his crimes. He was executed on the guillotine inside of Leipzig Prison.

He sure was. That was an interesting story. He was arrested in 1965 and executed, by guillotine, in 1966. The West Germans gave all the information they had on him over to the Stasi. That's how he met his end.

@timcolledge6813 If you mean Fritz Ernst Fischer of the Ravensbruck camp, he wasn't executed, in fact he was allowed to regain his M.D. after his release from prison in 1954 (he got a life sentence but was released after only 15 yrs) He lived to 91. You might be referring to Dr Ludwig Fischer, Nazi party lawyer, executed 1947, but it sounds like Dr Horst Fischer, executed 1966. Too many Dr Fischers :(

By the 1960`s most of the war criminals in the West Germany were released ie 20 year sentence in 1948 out by 1954. After West Germany was established as a democracy and moving forward, some old war criminals were put on trail, and if sentenced only recived a few years, or no futher action. After all WW2 the West wanted the Germans on their side, the new enemy was the USSR. East German had the right idea.

It’s widely known. The vast majority of Waffen-SS members had their blood group tattooed on underside of the left arm, with very few exceptions. Any way, if you didn’t ask you wouldn’t get a answer.

Read his book - I grant you that he earns nothing with it - and you can decide for yourselves if he was really a "beast", kind of sadist, or only a "follower of orders", an everyday man, that wants to do things exactly how they were told him and as efficient as possible, no moment thinking about the ethics of what he is doing and without mercy, believing that his commanders would know why those things were necessary. The book "Kommandant in Auschwitz" is 296 pages strong and gives you the insight not only to Auschwitz, but also generally to prisons and how prisoners are treated by different types of guards. You also see why they were founding that camps, when it was relatively moderate, and when it was escalating. More worth reading the book but watching this piece of propaganda.
