At 17:37-18:27 Professor Ron Hendel says there is NO evidence of an archaeological nature, for an event in Egypt that could be behind the biblical Exodus. I beg to differ, several scholars have averred that the Hyksos Expulsion of circa 1530 BC is the Egyptian version of Israel's Exodus in the Bible. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus (circa 70 AD) in his History of the Jews, was of the opinion that the Hyksos Expulsion was probably the Egyptian version of Israel's Exodus in the Bible. Josephus drew this conclusion from a History of Egypt written in Greek by an Egyptian priest called Manetho, who said Pharaoh allowed the Hyksos to leave Egypt with their weapons and families to return to Canaan. Later Pharaoh pursues after them and conquers Canaan, making the Hyksos slaves, and making Canaan part of the Egyptian Empire for 400 years (ending circa 1130 BC in the reign of Rameses VI). The Bible has Israel leaving Egypt with weapons, and families, for Canaan, and the Pharaoh later pursues after them, with the intent to re-enslave them. It is my understanding that Hendel errs in claiming there is no archaeological evidence for an mass removal of foreigners from Egypt, and return to Canaan. The Bible is actually refuting the Egyptian version of events, the Hyksos Expulsion of circa 1530 BC.

Josephus wrote centuries after the events he was describing. He was reciting myths, not writing history. And his reference to Manetho does not illuminate the question, since the Hyskos are not the Israelites.

@Walter R. Mattfeld, You are thoroughly misinformed. Hyksos expulsion and the old testament chronology doesn't coincide as per John Ussher or Isaac Newton or any other biblical chronologist. Josephus's "Antiquities of Jews" was written a quarter century later (93 AD)than you said(70 AD).. During the 18th and 19th dynasties of Egypt, Canaan was already under Egypt with massive army stationed in Canaan for Battles of Megiddo and Kadesh. . So where did the exodus take Moses and the fellows? From Egyptian capital to Egyptian army base?????!!!! Get a grip mate!!!

@@java97 I am afraid that it is Java 7 who is ignorantly misinformed. Professor Donald B. Redford, an Egyptologist, has averred that it was the Hyksos Expulsion which was later recast as the Bible's Exodus. See pages 412-413. Donald B. Redford. Egypt, Canaan and Israel in Ancient Times. Princeton University Press. 1992. "...the story in Exodus...There is only one chain of historical events that can accomodate this late tradition, and that is the Hyksos...in fact it is in the Exodus account that we are confronted with the Canaanite version of this event...In sum, therefore, we may state that the memory of the Hyksos expulsion did indeed live on in the folklore of the Canaanite population of thesouthern Levant..." As regards Java 7's query "So where did the Exodus take Moses? My research understands that based on archaeological findings in the Sinai, Negev, Edom, Moab and Canaan, the Exodus as presented in the Bible is fiction, it never happened. So, the answer for Java 7, is that Moses went no where, he is a fictional character. I recomend Java 7 google "mattfeld Hyksos Exodus" for more info on the subject

Loses me at 17:02. Exodus did not happen. Truth doesn’t matter anymore even in academia

So the OT is myth and the Bible is not inerrant. Glad we’re all clear on this now.
