The Exorcist, masterpiece. Of all the movies made on the supernatural, none even comes close to measuring up. It held up well. I can still watch it and be mesmerized. It's a powerful film.

I’m going to have to say, as a huge fan of horror, that The Babadook took it’s place as the scariest movie of all time. Something being scary doesn’t mean jump scares and whatnot. The Exorcist held psychological horror beyond compare in the 70s. I think the Babadook, given its insane depth, horrific visuals and no attempt at a cheap shot to scare.. it takes the cake.

Something they don’t touch on here, is the fact that it was banned in the UK and re-released at this time on video after the ban was lifted. I was 13, and we got a tiny taste of what it was like for our parents when it first came out. As they’d obviously went to the cinema to see it in the 70’s. In 2000, after lifting the ban and the restored version being released on video for the first time, everyone in high school was talking about it for a long time. It scared an entire generation all over again as hadn’t been available to watch for more than 25 years after the theatric release in the 70’s

My all time favorite scary movie....and to me, the greatest horror movie ever made, or that ever will have been made. Took me 17 years to get used to it. I remember as a 5 year old dragging my parents to go see this movie, having absolutely no freaking idea what I was getting into. I stayed under the dash (yeah, drive ins, 'membeh those? Yeh, I membeh'...heh heh heh) for pretty much the entire movie after Regan growled. Then, in 2000 comes "The Version You've Never Seen".... yeah, it spooked me all over again....just after I'd gotten used to watching it alone. LOL!

she was kind of a B movie queen. the press treated her as a lower actor, like she said but the fans .. the B movie fans really loved her because she showed personality and seemed to like the fans, or wasn't ashamed of her B movie status. Notice she didn't bad talk the director or anyone. Freidkin was known fir being tough on actors. Modern actors don't allow great performances because there per so many rules protecting actors. Even bigs. You can't even kill a bug anymore.

JOHN PETTY: Well, I was a newly married adult when _The Exorcist_ premiered in 1973 and my mother was in her 50s... but we grownup women still buddied up to go see it. Neither my dad nor my husband was interested in seeing it, and neither Mom nor I was interested in seeing it _alone_ ...not even in a crowded theater during a daytime screening. Neither of us had any residual nightmares - it usually helps me deal with it if I read the book on which an intimidating movie is based, before watching it - but even after all these years it still resonates on an emotional level.

The interviewer asked her a question about a hypothetical 'daughter' and she has said in other interviews (perhaps when more comfortable and not surrounded by the makers of the film?) that she had always wanted to have a child but thought that after receiving death threats after the initial release of the film that it'd be responsible to bring a child into an environment with bodyguards and having to literally hideout from crazy fans. The film (and by extension its makers) impacted her life in very serious ways and I really feel sorry for her that she wasn't safely able to have a child as a result.
