Remember that the majority of the Martians don't know who Bobbie is and what is in the system shows her as basically a traitor. Anyone who interacts with her is assuming she got off lightly so they are going to be biased towards her. The fact she is a hero who was instrumental in saving million/billions of lives is not on record.

The interrogation scene and the interaction between Bobbie and Avasarala made me love Bobbie even more. Frankie's acting in those scenes were just intense and amazing that you just feel that intense passion she has for her honor to Mars and the hurt she feels for the nation she grew up to and still fighting for has basically turned their back on her. I'm just always happy to see the sheer awesomeness of the cast overall. God, i love this show. Also always love you guys' reactions. Keep up the good work!

Rocinante crew looks more fit because they had to exercise to get in shape to operate in planetary gravity. Even Holden and Amos who are from Earth had to get some exercise because they were in space for so long.

The recasting of Avasalara's husband is controversial among fans. Few like it. I understand that Brian George was not available, but this new actor seems much more aggressive. To some extent, moving from the role of unknown spouse of a bureaucrat to the First Spouse of the most powerful leader of the Solar System would mean a different role for the character, but I think it would have been interesting to have seen that more gentle personification thrust into this greater role, rather than the current actor who seems more naturally cut out for it. Steal his drink and then demand, "What else you got?" That's the effective way to flirt with Amos. Interesting that Proto-Miller (which is the knowledge of the Protomolecule that was sent to the Solar System) doesn't know anything about the Protomolecule structures on Ilus. It's just flipping switches. The Protomolecule that was sent to the Solar System was a Ring-building tool still following its instruction to construct the Ring and contact the Builders; it's still trying to contact the Builders. The Protomolecule on Ilus serves some other purpose.

Empathy requires understanding, my dude, not the other way around. Someone filled with empathy for others can view an action and have no empathy for the person doing it because they do not understand why they did what they did. It's actually a common dramatic technique in storytelling to show an act which seems out of place or even reprehensible without providing the protagonist (and thus the viewer or reader) any context. Context, and thus understanding, is provided later in the story and only then is there opportunity to have empathy for the person who committed the act. While this is not really the technique used here, but it is an example of why understanding is a prerequisite for empathy and not vice versa.

A pleasure as usually! The season is much slower than the 3rd which can be a good thing for longer lasting projects. Actually it is refreshing that long story arcs are possible because there is no need to 'prove' the series is popular - that is such a nightmare for many great shows which were cancelled prematurely. Mars is such a great thing in this season. We've seen only glimpses of this culture before, also due to the costs of placing an entire new setting. It will be interesting how the opening of the new paths of exploration and colonization will change the society. Can it really survive? After all it was build one one purpose - terraforming the planet and everything was done to carry on with the project and protect it from old, envious Mother Earth. In this episode we have seen another interesting thing - that the Investigator is different, more complicated (the ghosts of Eros in his mind) but perhaps also less concerned with Holden's life. Maybe he is finally where he wanted and doesn't need Rocinante and its crew anymore. Perish the thought! There is also something with this entire planet. Notice how weird its moons are - they look so... perfect. The Belter State. I've already touched this subject - perhaps even for too long, so I'll be brief this time. Many people who are necessary to gain or regain independence are becoming obsolete in a functioning state. Many newly independent countries had to face a danger of a civil war (e.g. Ireland in 1920s) or disloyalty of an extremist faction or several (Chechenya in 1990s) - make it or break it - it might be this very moment where it either survives and solidifies or falls apart and/or is destroyed by a hostile power. New Terra can be the fuse... I didn't notice that the actors look slimmer. I guess that is the advantage of watching one season after another - well spotted! Take care!

While Bobbie was a great character that most fans loved, she was not a good soldier/sailor. A good soldier would follow orders and respect the chain of command. Bobbie was insubordinate, both privately and publicly, refused to accept her superiors' strategies to prevent war, assaulted her commanding officer, and so on. We all love that she did those things, but you cannot have an effective army/navy with those behaviors in the ranks.

That cranked me up :D Also, I don't think they are rationing even though the trip to New Terra takes "many months" as they say in the show (it's actually 1.5 years to get there, 1.5 to get back :D). The ships are usually well supplied for these kind of trips they probably just needed the exercise, Alex since he's a Martian and a full gravity planet might be hard on him and Naomi ofc. Cas had no idea what to do after the cancellation news and wasn't untill days into it he seen what the fans were doing that he even -thought- about getting involved with trying to save it. Him and the cast and crew thought it was all over and resigned themselves to that fact. If you want to thank someone, thank the fans that were there and against all odds got shit organized and made a big enough fuss that Cas and others finally got on board. Cas is a great ambassador and we love him, but this show continues thanks to the group of dedicated fans who didn't let one second pass after cancellation news before we mobilized and began efforts to save it. The fans saved this series not Cas. Cas could've talked to whoever all day about saving it but without the fan outcry and support it would have never been picked back up..

Mass Effect Andromeda came waaaay after Expanse books... Original Mass Effect was based on work of Drew Karpyshyn, but they kicked him out after first game and threw his vision into container bin.. so story got inconsistent (goals of Reapers in ME1 was different than in later games)

As far as I know the book series was always meant as 3 trilogies. Maybe its called a saga, and this season is just the start of the second trilogy. So in the big arc, S4 world building S5 some thing crazy S6 crazy with mind blowing reveal, plus more questions, just like S1-3 and more then likely S7-9. Can't wait for it all. Book 9 is the end. We all hope this series goes 9 seasons :)

In this episode we finally get enough information to piece together a timeline of events: Way back when: the builders send a rock with protomolecule to Illus and it builds a ring there, destroying the local biome in the process. Then they build all kinds of "stuff" there (more on that in later episodes). About 1.5 billion years ago: they send a rock with protomolecule towards our solar system (presumably because they detected premordial signs of life in Earth's atmosphere, perhaps Mars and Venus had primitive life as well back then) and shortly after that their civilization gets wiped out by something. Since then evolution did it's thing on Illus and started new life all over again. 1,5 billion years is plenty of time for that, considering multicellular life emerged on earth only 500 million years ago. This is the second biome the female biologist Elvie Okoye is talking about. In the book she was cataloguing numerous species before our crew arrived there. In the show it is only implied, they didn't have the time and budget to actually show it to us.

In no special order: Jetsam is beached wreckage from a shipwreck, as in the wreckage of the crashed shuttle and the landing pad, or the shattered remains of Bobbie's twice-ruined military career. She's still an unstoppable force of nature, but now that quality is no longer in demand from her former service or society. Miller's strange POV. Remember when Katoa looked up from his bed and saw Dr. Strickland's brain and nervous system? Miller is an energy projection now. It makes sense he'd see the world a bit differently. The crew looks thinner. We know that Naomi spent the trip to Illus taking tortuous injections and exercising to build up muscle mass. It makes some sense the others would have trained up a bit as well, knowing they were headed to an Earth-gravity planet. Gravity drugs. This could be a new trend for U.N. torturers. A new captive Belter is brought in, and is told "Welcome to Earth. Don't worry about interrogation. First off, we're going to spend 20 weeks inflicting the most excruciating agony you've ever felt. _Then_ we'll talk." Hurting him by way of helping. Forcing him to adapt to a 1-G field, stealing his heritage as a Belter. Undercutting his pride before questioning commences. Might be easier to spin for the inspector general than hanging him on hooks for days on end. The F-bombing Secretary-General. Crisjen has been Peter-Principled. All her experience has been as a behind-the-scenes mover and shaker, but now she's the top boss, living under a microscope, and the more intense the situation with the Ring and Illus and other matters becomes, the tighter she's going to clutch the reigns of power and act like a tyrant instead of a leader. The cursing is just a symptom of this. Midnight gardening. "No coma this time, kid. I promise." Oh, sure. This close to burying him alive under a billion year old artifact. But no coma. Thanks a million. Monkeys and microwaves. This time, Miller's the monkey, and it looks like he just found the egg timer feature.

The "Fooking Legend" is extremely angry, grieved and threatened all at the same time from losing his friends during a obvious attack by Belters. Then a Belter thinks it wise to poke the bear. The Belter now has a hole in his head where his tiny brain was. Personally I get where the guy was coming from, I'd be pissed, angry, sad and threatened too. I hope I wouldn't shoot, but he was kinda asking for it. Both of them were, one guy was asking to get shot, one guy was just asking for the smallest of reasons to shoot.

Personally I think first 4 seasons of The Expanse are pre-Mass Effect trilogy. Construction of the Ring = discovery of Mass Relay, but in The Expanse we find another Prothean vault instead of Turian fleet and war. "everybody wants to go out, but they're not letting..." - kinda reminds me of something these days :(

Actually, the description of Earth, a world in the grip of near-Malthusian overpopulation, put me in mind of the TOS Trek episode, "The Mark Of Gideon." (Obviously, they're not quite that far along yet, but give them time.) The concept of Belters, right down to the sides-shaven hairstyle, appears drawn directly from the writings of SF author Larry Niven. (Don't know where Belter Creole came from, however.)

Maybe its me but it felt like this season is way slower paced than the previous ones and not so stuffed with driving plotlines. All seems somewhat calmer. Maybe its to build the universe behind the portals or its cause this is the first season under Amazon lead and they wanted to get used to the expanse before tune up the pace?

Well season 3 had the end of book 2 and all of Book 3 in one season. Book 4 is already relatively slow. They even added some plotlines which weren't in the book (Avasarala and Bobbie) and moved some stuff from book 5 forward. But season 5 is going to be much faster paced.

Nothing against Mass Effect but its very, very derivative with almost every element based on other sc-fi. The devs have acknowledged this in almost every interview/article they are quoted in. As a game its good but as a sci-fi story its......less impressive. Once you get hooked on sci-fi there are some really amazing movies, shows, books, and games that almost every new media pays homage too. Remember there are only seven basic story plots but look at all of the amazing diverse stories that are crafted from those simple elements. The Expanse does do the sci-fi epic quite differently than most other sci-fi in that the story is never about the aliens......its focus is always on humanity.
