I actually appreciate Amos giving Clarissa a nickname. Calling her Clarissa feels too much of an anchor to her past as a Mao, and Melba is a reminder of all her crimes. Amos gave her a gift of a fresh start by calling her Peaches, something he must surely appreciate, since Timothy also got this opportunity when he assumed the identity of Amos Burton.

​ @Nrr An Just because a similar action is performed regularly by a person doesn't meant it is done with the same intent each and every time. Amos clearly has a very different relationship with Peaches than he did with Tiny, for instance. Not only that but I don't think Amos requires the extra step of dehumanising a person to take them out, if they become a threat. He'd be pretty useless in a fight if he did.

Affection or not, I'm almost certain he would've found value in her latter actions on the Behemoth that helped them save the humanity. In the end, she picked the right side, and Amos of all people can recognise how hard finding and sticking to that side can be. He saw himself in her.

Dawes’ actor, Jared Harris, has been extremely tied up with shows and movies so he wasn’t able to film for this season. Unfortunately leading to an unceremonious off screen death… also the X-ray scene only works with mobile devices but not tvs for some reason.

Yeah real flawed system they had for these X-ray vignettes. 1) Putting some great content behind a gimmicky feature that not everyone knows about, 2) can't watch full screen without a workaround 3) think they also lack subtitles 4) don't work on TVs.

Despite choosing to side with his dad last season, its clear Naomi got to him. Last season there would be this look of awe whenever he looked at his Marco. So when Naomi told him that Marco only cares about himself, Filip tests it out by asking for a ship to command so his name can be known, Marco shoots him down, so it confirms what she told him. In the last episode, in the scene where Marco captures the ring gate, the bridge crew is chanting Marco's name, but Filip is silent, looking pensive. In episode, we can see the guilt has definitely eating at him, and he's trying to drown it with partying and casual sex. So when his friend is regaling the groupies with tales of his "heroism", his guilt washes over him and he quite literally flees the room. When the bartender turns him down and he gets angry, he says "killed the Earther me" with a tone of self loathing, and repeats "I'm a hero " like he's subconciously trying to convince himself.

I love how they include some Laconia stuff in S6. It makes me think there may be more seasons of this show sometime in the future. This is actually stuff from later books, you don’t see any of this in book 6. Fun fact: Amos and Clarissa escaped Earth by finding a ship on an island on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire (I’ve been there, it’s nice). The closest town to Lake Winnipesaukee is Laconia.

Season 6 is exceptional television. It very much is compacted, no fault of the showrunners, that was all Amazon’s mishandling of the property. They had wanted 13 episodes and Amazon cut the episode order in half. To get what we got out of 6 episodes is honestly extraordinary. I’m mad because we could have got even more, but I have nothing but respect for what the writers and showrunners managed to do with the time and budget they were given.

I really appreciate the long-term storytelling of the Expanse. If you think about Marco’s strategy of throwing asteroids and the consequences on Earth, this is really an extension of slingshot racing and the cascade effect introduced in Ganymede station. Slingshot racing is all about calculating trajectories and then throwing yourself (without the use of your drive core) and the same way there was a “point-of-no-return” for Ganymede station, the same can be said about Earth, just on a larger scale.

Been a big fan of Thomas Jane since seeing the movie 61* and his portrayal of Mickey Mantle. I haven’t read the books but I still thought Miller would be a great character no matter how the first episode went. A bit silly as I was still kind of seeing Mickey Mantle instead of Miller for the first couple episodes. A lot if similarities between the two characters.

Timothy= Clarissa Amos= Peaches One of the most important themes of this show, is that people CAN change. It is "The Expanse" of real life. You can move forward, from your past, into a new future. Too often, shows are just judgement calls, that end in death as the only option for "bad" people. Asking for forgiveness, giving forgiveness, not giving a summary judgement and seeing beyond your own views are what make this story so great. Few stories ever give the bad guy a chance to be better.

Season six, the last one .... for now 🙏 The one thing that I give mad respect to the writers is using the loss of Alex to drive the plot and the strain upon the crew! Steven Straight lost alot of weight to show the stress of war over the past six months! I love this season, it's so well done but it breaks my heart because it's the last one! While I appreciate the ❤, my tendency is to edit and update my comment throughout the reaction, so I stop and respond back, and now, you likely won't see my responses in this comment. Everything past this point was typed after your ❤ 21:06-21:22 A drive would only produce a drive signature while active. And creating a ballistic approach is literally "giving a nudge in the right direction with the right amount of force to start the journey, the more force and the more time the force is applied, the shorter the ballistic approach can be, but if they are launching asteroids to hit Earth every month or so, they could either activate 4 or 5 at once using different amounts and directions of drive for under a minute each, and these would then impact over months, or they can activate them one at a time for shortest time between launch and impact, but ultimately the drives need only be active a short time, and would be shut down long before approaching Earth. So while the drive would register a signature while active, if it's far from Earth, and will be active for minutes or even an hour then go dead, there won't be a signature to track after it shuts down. 24:55-25:05 it's mostly about Trajectory. Remember (sorry for bringing him up) Alex planning a gravity assisted ballistic course way back when? It's the same principle, look at where your path will take you, factor in the movement of where you want to arrive, within a time frame, calculate the amount of thrust needed to align your path with the influence of gravity over what amount of time. One burn, drives off, let inertia and gravity get you there. The closer you get to a center of gravity, the more that gravity affects your position. In his case the goal was to reach a destination without being seen as more than random stuff in space. In the case of the asteroids, the goal is for Earth and the asteroid to have a rendezvous. 27:53-28:01 Until it develops further, I prefer to think of this conversation of "find somewhere else to be" to be more of a "leave this room before this escalates, neither of us wants that because neither of us will be happy after the dust settles" in Re: The "dog. kinda" creature in the beginning, I was constantly thinking after she had asked "what are you?" my brain was saying "bait extended by the big carnivorous beast I'm an appendage of" When the sunbird started making a lot of noise, my thoughts immediately went to "alarm about the vicious predator about to eat you." [I'm glad that's not what the creature was] 41:16-41:22 "Marco F-d up Earth, a lot. a lot." I'd say, as the phrasing goes "Marco F-d up Earth a lot a lot." (a lot of a lot of f-ing up) as in "a lot" doesn't come close to it, it's "a lot a lot" It would have been good if they had been able to get a day with the actor who played Dawes, to just have 1 or 2 scenes. Even if they literally took him off screen to end his character, for him to have an appearance in the background of a communication of someone reporting they have him, his death being ordered, and an opening of an airlock (presumably of the ship the communication is coming from, and an affirmation "It's done" 45:37-45:55 I still think the spotter ship is just there to provide the up to date information to the next asteroid to be launched. If an asteroid gets through, it's mass and velocity will ever so slightly affect the Earth's path. If you just set them all based on pre-determined times and points, the more that get through the less accurate the rest would be.2 or 3 large impacts wouldn't change much, but A. What's the point of pelting a planet with more asteroids if there are less than 2,000 people left alive? and B. you don't know which asteroids will get through, and of those that don't how many fragments of what size will make it to the surface? (small objects will burn to vapor before reaching the ground, depending what they are comprised of) 46:40-47:05 Marco is damaging the biosphere of Earth, yes, possibly contaminating the soil. But since there's a lot of living soil that's already on stations, all they need is a composite of very similar soil, even if it doesn't have the micro-organisms, for sustainability, then introduce "live soil" from any already established source, with a proper temperature, atmosphere, supplements, and water, and the micro-organisms will spread throughout the added soil, making it viable "living soil" for planting. At least as far as my understanding of physics, chemistry, botany and animal science goes. Of course "it could work on paper, but not in practice." in which case this is a very bad maneuver. 50:45-50:47 I can't help it. I'm obligated... "It doesn't matter how much you push the envelope... It'll still be stationary." [If you've read this far you needed a pun, by now -- Thank you TLOU.]

Strapping an engine to an asteroid means it effectively becomes a torpedo. And it doesn't have to accelerate a LOT to be a problem; over maybe a month or two or three, it'll pick up a lot of speed, and thus energy, before reaching the Earth. My impression is that Marco is just going for wearing down Earth at this point; none of the rocks are hitting solidly now, but there's so many and so much side damage (as mentioned earlier) from dust and particulates in the upper atmosphere that Earth is being slowly killed.

Well, he's also tying up the Earth Navy. They are currently staying at Earth to break up incoming asteroids so they are fragment impacts that level small to large cities, rather than a full asteroid impact that craters large states or small countries.

I get the feeling that Filip is having a hard time finding his place. His dad treats him like a burden. His friend treats him like a rock star. He doesn't want any of it, but where can he go? I don't really like Filip, and I don't know if it's the writing or the performance, but I usually try to reevaluate a character when I struggle with that. After the final episode of season 5, you thought Marco would go to another planet through the rings. The Sol Gate is the strategic importance. With Marco controlling the Sol Ring, nobody can go any other planets outside Sol's system. All technologies left by the protomolecule builders and the vast resources and the opportunity to migrate to other livable planets are in Marco's power as long as he controls the Sol Ring. The fight remains within the Sol system and that is a reason why Marco is still there.

Iirc, in the books Naomi warms to Clarissa really early. I like she doesn't in the show. From Naomi's perspective Marco and Clarissa have a lot in common. That's a deep well for Clarissa to climb out of. The scene on Laconia. Turns out the dangerous alien was the little girl. Agent J would have called that!

45:21 not 100% sure the final numbers but when we first see Marco's holomaps, I believe we can count 9-10 rocks on path to hit, (after the science ship was destroyed we assume they already subtracted one for that) and it shows them as in the orbital path of where Earth will be, of course. I'm sure someone smarter than me can analyze how many arc degrees of the full earth orbit are shown and deduce a timeline (very likely the show creators did this), but I always wondered if the rocks continuing to hit were "the first batch" or if Marco continued to bombard earth at various times. Also your Marco impression is spot on 😂

I love your commentary. Your channel was the first one I subscribed to where someone watches the movies / series that I can appreciate and talks about them. Do yourself a favor and read the books (or audio books) when you are done with the series. It will fill in a lot of gaps and the last 3 books continue on beyond the series and are the real crux of the Expanse.

Regards the drive on the asteroid, its there to push it towards earth, no need for a whole ship. Marco is attaching hundreds of cheap drives to asteroids to push them towards earth - not as good as stealthed asteroids, but cheap and quantity has a quality all of its own.

This first episode was pretty rough seeing our crew all tired and beat. Poor Michio. She does need a hug. SHe's our hero that took out Karal. The drive attached to rocks just means they don't need to tow it with a ship to bring it up to speed and all you'd need is just a vector to fire it in. All the Laconia stuff is from a novella. I was surprised to find out that there's no PM stuff in book six, but it's really something that I like in the show, so I'm happy to see in the little bits we get. "Is that a bun" made me LOL! Filip feeling to start the stuff that Naomi said before is now appearant and hold crap did he lose it and killing his buddy. The Ceres scene was pretty telling in how Marco really has no plan to lead and care for Belters. The administrator there was talking about food and water and with Ganymede still trying to get productive again, I'm thinking Belters are going to be starving. The offscreen death of Dawes was a bit lame but what can you do?

The little Xray clips are a nice addition to this season. I felt this season did suffer from only having 6 episodes though. The story used to effortlessly meander without feeling drawn out or boring. Season 6 does feel a bit rushed. It's the only real complaint I had about season 6 though. It's a shame Jared Harris wasn't available to shoot for season 6 too, although trying to squeeze him into 6 episodes as well... The bits on Laconia are actually from a Novella called "Strange Dogs". They've featured several Novellas in the show before. Most notably the background story of the Epstein drive with Solomon Epstein.

According to the "Ty and that guy podcast" they had planned 10 episodes, but then Amazon approached them if they could cut it to 6 bc the cgi was more costly this season. Which annoys me, bc Amazon can pour millions into s*t projects, but cannot spare a few more bucks on a fantastic show?

@@huro1845 Yeah, they'd have been far better off spending that billion dollars they wasted on Rings of Power and giving to The Expanse instead! I guess they figured, The Expanse has smaller cult following than the Lord of the Ring franchise, but then they go and monumentally fuck that up. Yeah, it does suck massively! Like I said, the story suffered for being so short, because I felt like season 6 just kinda felt like, event, then another event, then another, rather than the story building up to those moments. They did a good job with the hand they were dealt though.

As sad as it is, even if she wasn't on the bridge during combat she still needed to be dropped off somewhere. In emergency she'd use useful crew's oxygen and she'd be an extra hungry mouth that doesn't better their chance at surviving. Tough call but the right one.

The Expanse continues in The Dragon Tooth graphic novels (3 volumes) that are available via Kickstarter. The project ends in 20 days from this writing. Needless to say, they've already surpassed their goal. So if you want your fix, head over there soon. It is disappointing about Cas Anwar if the allegations are true. He was quite active on social media and was running a geolocation contest for swag. So it was sad that Alex was killed off but at least we had an indication that something would happen and weren't as blindsided and traaumatized as you were. It still hurt, though. 😪

I feel you on the anger. And disappointment. The showrunners made the best of a shitty situation but It never should have needed to happen in the first place. He let us all down. Speaking of making the best of a bad situation. The reduced episode count for this season is not ideal, but it has some ancillary benefits in terms of pacing, and I am AMAZED how much they did in 6 episodes. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions.

Amazon made a big deal hiding those bonus clips... However, the are available on PC, browser, mobiles and at least on some TVs (but not all) as well. The trick is, you need to start an episode first, then hit pause, then go to the x-tra content. Without starting and then pausing an episode it doesn't work for what I know.

48:15 I think you need to rephrase that. Amos isn't Holden who tries to do the "right" thing (more so morally for Holden) . He normally would try tod do what he think is best for him an his "tribe", Peaches just happens to be in his tribe. Holden is his moral compass.

Favourite season...that's actually hard to answer in retrospect. Each season has its own atmosphere, and, indeed, in rewatch, I appreciate each one more, to the point that I couldn't really tell which I would favour over which. It's a bit like "Alien"-"Aliens", or "The Terminator"-"Terminator 2: Judgment Day"; which is better? Both. Neither. Thing is, none could exist without the other. Same feeling here. Of course, there are favourite moments, like "That Guy" and The Ballad Of The Moron That Flew Into The Ring. Yes, I did look that up. Season six doesn't make the choice easier, it being so filled to the brim with intense action, drama, twists and turns.

Yes, with the rockets installed & the rocks now turned in to controllable weapons (rather than throw & hope they don't get slowed/knocked of course) they could continue accelerating, causing much more damage [Force = Mass x Acceleration].

More importantly they can fire the rocks remotelly when they are in proper position or in waves coordinated from several points.. they also dont need ships that have to go to them and acelerate and release risking someone spoting them .. they also can maneover and adjust burns in flight so even if someone spots the launch they are not that predictible as a "dumb unguided" rock would

spoiler from books: In book 6 its Holden who holds a grudge against Clarissa .. in the series they switched to Naomi because as you point out it was Naomi the one who got assaulted and nearly killed by Clarissa..while the later was trying to kill Holden , he didnt even meet her until both were in the Behemoth arrested and the next thing he saw was her saving the day..

With The Expanse coming to an end I hope you react to Dune (if you haven't seen it already) part two will be coming out in November. Star Wars is very much inspired by Dune but was simplified for a young adults target audience. Dune is what I wanted Star Wars content to be now that I'm an adult.
