It took me two years to finish season 1, I was bored before episode 6. Last month I gave an another try and 20 min after Alt Shift X posted this video, I finished season 3. This was the best SciFi show I ever watched.

It starts slow and it does get confusing if you lose track of whats going on.. but if you can keep up of whats happening.. then you will love the show

Books are amazing as well, their just different enough to feel different from the show but still fundamentally the same so you won't be disappointed by the show afterwards. More drama and action -> show, more characterization and detailed story -> books.

He mainly does well with series based on a book series, primarily because they actually offer huge opportunities to talk about the expanded world and far-reaching narrative. GoT and The Expanse work so well because there are different nations, different factions and loyalties that sometimes work better when you have a map or diagram to explain it. I haven't seen Chernobyl, but I don't think Mr. Robot has too much to really talk about in an analysis.

You did a excellent job in summarizing The Expanse. There were a couple things you left out I thought should have been included, but that didn't detract from the great job you did. I, like many others commenting here on The Expanse also thing this series is one of the best tv programs ever produced and without a doubt the best Science Fiction series ever. It's hard to understand why more people weren't watching it on the SyFy Channel and why viewership went down ever season. But then again there are so many people that love to watch fake reality programing than much higher quality shows of any type and of course many people would rather watch police or lawyer shows than great SciFi shows of any kind

You must have thought that Season 8 of GoT was brilliant television. Season 4 of TE was a massive D&D-style turd dropped right in the middle of the carpet. It took FOUR SEASONS to finally kill off a semi-major character. The plot armor is strong on this show. The biggest problem (well, there are so many to choose from, maybe it isn't the biggest) is that all of the characters this season became criminally stupid. I thought maybe going through the Ring caused some serious brain damage, but people on Earth and Mars have gotten dumb as mud, too. Ashford and Drummer had a couple of decent scenes, but pretty much everyone else has lost their mojo. And what the hell is up with that little teenage girl running away from home armed with nothing other than "desire to achieve" and ending up on a ship where she apparently becomes the captain in less than 72 hours??? As if we don't have enough Mary Sues being shoved down our throats! Sheesh!!

To newcomers curious about The Expanse, it is essentially Game of Thrones but in space (with space lasagna!). Even better, all the books have already been written so we won't have the season 8 disaster of Game of Thrones. I couldn't recommend the show more. Its hard sci-fi that works for people that may not initially think they would enjoy sci-fi.

So glad you're covering the show! 2 minor nitpicks (spoilers for all 3 seasons): 1) The Protomolecule isn't a virus, it's not even a microorganism really, it's more a self-replicating nanobot (microbot? microbe-bot?) the mimics and repurposes organic life, and becomes more complex, intelligent, and capable as it "grows" 2) The ring isn't a wormhole, they even specifically say so in the show, it's more a portal to a pocket dimension set outside normal space.

It certainly is. The first season is a bit slow and spotty at places, but beyond season 1 it's essentially what Game of Thrones seasons 1-4 had to offer in quality.
