Amos wasn't walking around in zero G. He was on the outside of a station that spins to create gravity, so he was essentially walking "upside down", which is why he was so wobbly.

I look at it more as trying to hold on the edge of a spinning wheel like you see kids do on playgrounds. The center is easy to be stable, but the outside is much more difficult, except this spins far faster.

So about what they did to the atmosphere in the control room. They didn’t want to give the armed belters a heads up they were messing with the air or they may have shot someone. It turns out the feeling you get when you can’t breathe isn’t lack of oxygen but caused by a build up of CO2. The Roci crew turned up the CO2 removal and then turned up the nitrogen (which usually makes up 80% of our air) to replace the oxygen which they turned down. No one would feel like they were choking due to the lack of CO2 and most will just eventually pass out while breathing normally. Pretty sneaky and accurate.

Nah man!! Westworld season 1 was even better. And they did it without any novel source material. Since season 1, it's a downfall but that season 1 was a masterpiece. A real masterpiece. And GOT Seasons 1-4 was better than this since season 5, it's a depreciation, but season 1-4 is good.

I think you missed an important detail. The Rocci crew initially hid their sample, but they voted to shoot it into the sun and destroy it. Naomi pretended to shoot it into the sun, but really she hid it. So she's the only one who knows that sample is still out there. She was worried Corazar had located her sample. But the protomolecule that was talking to him was on Ganymede. Steven is right. Ganymede is a moon orbiting Jupiter. Eros was located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Eros crashed into Venus. Understanding the layout of the solar system helps this show make more sense.
@NozomuYume
@NozomuYume 4 жыл бұрын
Minor correction: Eros is not a typical main-belt asteroid, it's a near-Earth asteroid that has an orbit that takes it almost to Earth orbit, and then swings out to slightly past Mars to the orbits of the inner belt. It was probably a main-belt asteroid that interacted with another object to throw its orbit into the inner solar system. In real life it was the first asteroid to ever have a spacecraft land on it (NEAR Shoemaker probe in 2001). In The Expanse timeline it was one of the first asteroids to be colonized since it was easy to get to. It's the second-largest Near-Earth asteroid so it's a prime target for mining and colonization. After the creation of the Epstein drive, however, distance became less of an issue so Eros became less-relevant economically. (Sort of like how rust belt cities in the U.S. declined heavily after the massive expansion in global trade)

Naomi kept nervously checking the status of the Protomolecule sample after simulating its destruction, over the course of several episodes. Possible guilty conscience, having lied to the man she loves, or possibly worry. Worry that Cortazar might have tracked it, or worry that the Protomolecule may have taken over the torpedo and caused it to abscond. Possibly a combination of the above.

No spoilers: Amos’ was triggered by that little boy. Amos may have seen his self as a child in that moment and it frankly scared him. Naomi disagreed with the fellas about what to do with that protomolecule sample they had. That’s why she went against them and fake sent the sample into the sun, she was nervous that the protomolcule the mad scientist heard was their sample but it wasn’t. The protomolecule is on Ganymede Station which is where we saw that alien looking thing that attacked Gunnie(Bobbie).

When Amos is on the outside of Tyco he isnt struggling because its 0 g. The station spins to provide 1/3rd G on the inner surface, so he is under a shit load of force trying to throw him off tangential to the spin.

Both. Yes! Been waiting for this one. Where Drummer goes from "what's her deal?" to "omfg, what a badass!" I think you missed the whole bit about Naomi lying to the crew. The crew all agreed to send the sample into the sun, but she didn't. She ran a simulation to fool the rest of the crew. So when Holden said no more secrets there was a whole lotta weight on Naomi's conscience. She's keeping a massive secret from the rest of the crew. She was checking on her hand terminal to make sure no-one had found the sample she left hidden. Amos did not get the procedure. He just has huge issues from his childhood that got triggered by the kid. You have interesting Strickland theories. That spacing scene gets me every time - the shot of Doris still trying to breathe in the vacuum of space - and it's a credit to the writing that we care so much about a character that we've only spent like 3 scenes with.

Belter justice is usually very quick and summary. It's usually reserved for anyone who threatens the safety and the integrity of the ship or station. Belters are taught from an early age about the necessity of keeping air filters clean, airlock seals in good order, water filtration etc, which is the reason Miller tossed that dude he was taking bribes from in the airlock. Those OPA thugs threatened Tycho as a whole by threatening to take the missiles and use them against Earth, which would earn a massive reprisal, so Drummer shot them there and then.

The OPA has several factions, with different approaches, highlighted by Fred and Dawes. Dawes is clearly more radical, and it's a conflict for Naomi right now, who's feeling drawn to her Belta roots unlike idealist Holden. Hence her deception about the protomolecule sample (remember the torpedo?) which could blow up on her at some point (hopefully not literally).

Great reaction guys. What I like about the characters is that they are constantly changing. For example Holden admitting he wanted to kill the scientist because he knew about the proto molecule. His arc was changing like when he blew up medical ship at Eros. Now this. He will do anything to stop the proto molecule. Even Naomi was shocked. Now we see Amos having an unclear transformation. Naomi is changing, too, especially her allegiance between Roci crew and the Belt.

Something to keep in mind that is very well told in the books, but is somewhat skipped over in the show, is that Holden and miller saw a horror show on Eros, and Holden was traumatised/scared to death by it. There were infected people acting like zombies spewing stuff to infect others. They saw people slowly being absorbed/eeaten by the proto molecule, and they saw the horror show biomass it was creating. Holden is scared to death something like Eros will happen again and is dead set on preventing it from ever happening again, which is why he's turning a bit single minded and obsessed about the protomolecule... Also the Amos thing: something clearly happened to him as a kid. He's been hinting about this every now and then. And what happened with Amos, that kid and his mom brought some deep trauma back. But the only way Amos knows how to deal with this is to push it away and go unemotional. As cortazar said he learnt to ''caurterise the wounds''...
@chris6770
@chris6770 4 жыл бұрын
Amos was shook up by the boy and conversation with Cotazar in the last episode, so probably depressed and trying to work through his trauma, no doubt aided by drugs and alcohol and prostitutes on a three day bender, rather than having had the procedure on his brain.

I think Naomi's convo with Jim over Miller & Cortazar highlights some of what is going on with her. She loves Jim's idealism and wants him to stay true to that. But at the same time she recognizes that he is usually a bit naive. Being able to just hope that everyone is just going to do the right thing is a privilege that Belters do not have, particularly evident after Eros. Naomi's internal conflict occurs because she wants to embrace both her identity as a Belter and a Roci crewmember but those seem to be coming into conflict. So while she absolutely believes in the character of her crew, she acknowledges that she may have to do things more like Miller for the sake of Belters. Hence her being shady and angsty while also being upset at Jim for being shady and angsty. They are really just both hot messes rn.

When Eros clashed into Venus, Holden, Naomi and Fred all thought that it could be the end of the protomolecule. Now the Roci crew decide to destroy their sample so Holden thought the protomolecule is done. But Naomi deceived everyone and kept it. Then Cotezar heard a shout and that worries everyone since they thought the protomolecule might have ended with Eros. So they try to find out where the shout was from. Naomia and Drummer figure from sensor log that the shout was from Ganymede. So at this point, Fred position is well, Ganymede is not connected to Eros so the bloody thing is in more place than they originally thought so everyone just have to learn to live with it. Holden on the other hand is like, he will go after and kill the protomolecule wherever it is. Naomi was more worried about that she lied to her lover and friends when Cotezar heard a shout because if Cortezar found her sample, it would show that she did not destroy it. Now that she knows there are more protomolecule in the system, she is debating with herself whether she should destory her sample -- therefore constantly check it. BTW, that Amos scene where he is cutting off the oxygen. He is not having trouble with 0G. The Tyco station generate gravity by spinning the sation. Everyone is standing on the inside of the "side wall" of the station. When he went outside, he would have to fight the centrifugal force when he tried to step on a spinning station, notice the sparks are flying away from the station.

"Is Strickland a guy who's working with Mao?" In this episode we saw James Holden and Naomi run a directory search of Protogen employees who've ever worked on Ganymede and who also happened to be there at the time of attack. Through that search they were able to identify Strickland as a pediatrician who happened to be last seen with that little girl, Mei, just hours prior to the skirmish that destroyed most of the facilities there. So the suspicion at this point is that he, along with Mao - by proxy of him working for Protogen, which is Mao's company - might have had prior knowledge about the attack on Ganymede station.

Dawes actually rectruited Fred for OPA. Dawes sat back on his haunches and closed the blade with one hand. “I don’t waste resources, Colonel. If you want to die, it will do that girl and her father absolutely no good. If you want to make it up to her and all the people like her, I could use your expertise. You’re a rare resource. You’ve got knowledge and training, and as the man who is famous throughout the whole system for killing Belters, you’re in a position to be our strongest advocate. All it means is walking away from everything you know and love. The life you built for yourself. The admiration of everyone who looks up to you. All the things you’d have lost anyway.” “This was a recruitment, then.” Dawes stood up, sliding the knife into his pocket. His smile reached his eyes this time. “You tell me,” Dawes said. Then, to the woman, “Recanos ai postar. Asi geendig.” “Aiis,” she said, shouldering the rifle like a professional. The pair walked out together, leaving Fred on the deck, massaging the agony out of his legs as the feeling started to return.

When they started looking for the protomolecule that Cortázar was talking to, Naomi must have been panicking, because she thought they would find the one she was supposed to send to the Sun, but didn't. Makes you wonder what she would have done if they had found it. Killed Drummer? Fat chance. Did you notice that Belter on the control centre at Tycho, one of the two that Drummer shot? You didn't show it here, but he was talking to an incoming ship called the "Jefferson Mays". This is a shout-out to the great narrator of all the audio books.

One cool little detail, if you remember Bobbie on Ganymede with her team, there was a shot of a kid waving to them from inside a Dome. Here we see the reverse angle of Mei waving at Bobbie's team from within the dome. This is the episode where Drummer shot up to a number one badass and became one of my favorite characters. Some corrections: Eros crashed into Venus, not Jupiter. The blue "alien" that Bobbie encountered plus the battle in orbit happened at Ganymede. The freighter that Prax was on was a refugee ship of survivors from Ganymede.

I think the best way to understand Amos is that he is flat out a bad guy, and he knows it. But he doesn't want to be. He deeply admires people who aren't, people who actually do have empathy and humanity, so he's attracted to them and follows them gladly. Maybe in the hope that some of them will rub off onto him, but mostly because he just doesn't know how to be good, so he relies on them to show him the way. At first that was Naomi, Holden is starting to take that spot for him, and in this episode we see him kind of lean towards Prax at the end. The one place he *does* have empathy is with kids. He will rip someone's skull open to protect a kid.

Amos is a really interesting character. The show initially portrays him as "The muscle". But as the seasons progress you get to see more and more of who he really is. In this season you start to see the inner struggles he's having as he compares himself to the rest of the crew. The books are obviously a little different and you really learn who he is and where he came from....eventually. I think we'll ALL see a little of this in season 5.

Quick status check for y'all. HOLDEN: Losing sight of his principles. NAOMI: Caught between loyalties. AMOS: Soul searching. ALEX: Looking for his place. Everyone aboard the Rocinante is in flux. Except PRAX. Prax needs to save his daughter. That's his mission. He may have some doubts but MEI is his priority. What will his presence bring? This is our Empire Strikes Back of seasons 1 to 3. The middle act when everyone is tested on their own inner battlefield. Where the group faces internal strife while dealing with all the external problems. The pressure is mounting on personal levels. What choices will they face? What decisions will they make? Will the pieces still fit when it's all done? The resolution may surprise you. And may elicit some strong reactions.

For Amos, the conflict is due to the fact that, as Cortazar said, he locked away everything that made him a normal little boy in order to survive, and he's still essentially that damaged little boy even today. He hasn't grown up; he's just grown older. Cortazar offered to complete the damage to take the pain away, but pain is part of the normal process of growth. Amos doesn't want to be less human. He wants to be more. But he doesn't know how to get there from where he is.

When Amos went outside to turn off the oxygen, he was on the outside of the spinning section of the habitat. If he hadn't been able to get both feet magnetically attached to the hull, it would have thrown him off into space. You saw that with how the sparks from the cutting torch went straight up, instead of just floating around. The centripetal force caused it to spray straight out from the hull, which from Amos' perspective looked straight up.

A funny little bit to note for the attention to detail in realism: Amos walking on the outside of Tycho wasn't walking funny because he was in zero-g. He was on the outside of the spinning hull of the station. He would be walking with is "feet sticking to the ceiling" because the force of the spin would be trying to send him away from the surface. That's why he was going "down" in the elevator, but came out feet first.
