The part where Lopez, with busted armor leaking air, lumbers into the airlock. Just think about what’s happening right there for a second. His body has suffered the close-range concussive force of high explosives which would be enough to almost immediately kill a number of his organs, likely got shredded by shrapnel, and is clearly bleeding out internally. Even before he crossed the causeway, he knew he was already dead. In order for him to pull that off, he probably had to *manually* set his armor to shoot him up with enough drugs to fool his brain into thinking his body is still in working condition before weathering the continued withering fire from all sides. To top it all off, he was able to squelch enough of the pain that wasn’t covered by his suit’s combat meds in order to CALMLY tell everyone to get in before going through the correct procedure to give them command authorization. And he was still clear at the end. Like… damn, man.

It is understood only in second viewing - this is a "becoming" scene. It is not unlike the first time Toni Stark dons his Mark3 and flies to Gulmira, or Cap receiving the serum and then chases the assassin. In many ways this one is better. For Iron Man, Captain America and such we know they are supposed to undergo this change. In this scene the crew of the Roci function as a team, supporting one another, and the last fifth member - the Roci itself (although still named the Tachi) is introduced to the team. They (and us as viewers for the first time) don't know that they are going to face incredible challenges. But when seeing this for a second, third and who knows how many times - this is their "becoming" scene. And it's awesome.

As soon as the unknown ships had shown hostile intention, they probably began preflighting the Tachi, but even with as much "push" as possible to get her ready quickly, she was clearly only JUST ready to fly when the Donnager was boarded - and probably her flight crew was killed by the attackers. Ships are not simple - it takes time to activate and power up their systems (a modern fighter jet - probably an order of magnitude less complex - takes close to half an hour to be ready to fly. "Ready 5" aircraft on a carrier have the first 25 minutes of their preparations completed before they're rolled up to the flight deck. Donnager was caught with her escorts in "cold iron" status.

It was at least nice that the captain's desperate plan--and the one for which those Martian troopers died for--to get Holden and his crew to safety aboard the Tachi ultimately succeeded, and they knew it before the end. In the captain's words, it counted for something. And credit to the crew of the Donnager--at literally no point did any of them show any fear of dying or hesitation for the sake of duty.

Though the book did it better I still love how they did this scene, classic heroism on the Martians behalf

Been a year, but could you upload some season 6 stuff? Been looking all over for the final battle scene in S6E6 but haven't seen anything. Being able to rewatch the Pella getting destroyed by the Ring Entities would be cool too.

At this point I was still trying to figure who was who- now I need a rewatch so I can appreciate the characters early on

Those pdc rounds don't stop when they hit someone, or a shipwall for that matter. Some poor martians got chewed up before they were blown up.

I'll see what I can do. Tbh I'm having a bit of a break from uploading until S6 comes along, so will be preoccupied with that for some time. But I've made a note of your request. Thanks.

Greg Bryk (Lopez) would make an excellent Gaunt of "Gaunt's Ghosts".

Four random characters group up for an adventure... The Expanse was taken from a role-playing game the authors were playing. This, and later when they spend their money adding a rail-gun to their ship (such a gamer thing to do) are the only two times it shows.

I still don't get it how those two much smaller ships have a boarding party bigger than the marine contingent of the Donnager. Or they had less troops but won because of the more advanced tech?
@logicplague2 жыл бұрын
Many were probably either KIA during the initial battle or doing damage control, and sections of the ship may have been cut off due to damage. Also may depend on where the breaching pods landed. The stealth ships knew exactly who and what they were going up against, and they probably knew exactly where to land them to most effectively gain control. The Captain also said most of her crew hadn't seen battle outside of a simulator, and the Protogen crews were likely ex-military. There are a number of variables.

It's a shame Lopez and his unit didn't have Goliaths. Show probably would've gone a bit differently.

It is so much better when a page takes the time to piece together a scene rather than try to edit it into a summary that makes absolutely no sense. I never watched Expanse. But fell in love with the ship designs in videos. I wanted to see the Donnager fight I had heard about. I watched one video called battle of the Donnager and walked away confused and angry at the lack of ANY clarity. After 8, 5 minute clips I can see. Keep this kind of stuff up. Don't know if you are still making videos after the series is over but. You have a good nack at video creation. Wish other creators could do the same.

Go back and just LISTEN to this video. The Sound Design team was never paid enough. The PDCs sound like the Doom Marine created a chainsaw but the chain was made of .50 Cal rounds coated in hell.
