The Express Lifts Of Liverpool - How many still have the original buttons?

Wow. It makes me think that it’s deliberate that the lifts still have so many original features. I’m assuming they are still relay controlled? There is no reason for the Express Badge to be there, however it still is, which is great. I think that the building owner must have wanted them to keep it there. Usually a digital indicator would be installed to go along with the new buttons inside, but no! They kept the original arrow. They must be deliberately looking after these. The bulbs in the hall lanterns still work which means that they replace them occasionally. It’s also good that the bell still works perfectly. Often the bell doesn’t work at all or is damaged or worn out. These are some very excellent Express lifts in terms of originality. There used to be an Express lift in a shopping centre car park in Reading. It’s now completely modernised to the point you can’t tell what it originally was. It was similar to these ones, but it was completely battered and the doors would always get stuck. only the dewhurst buttons and the voice have been added in this mod to make the lift compliant, everything else is original including the logic. This is quite a good example of only replacing/adding what is necessary :D

i love these ones too, but sadly the owners havent been maintaining them so all 4 are currently broken and have been for quite some time from what people have told me

The obround shaped buttons on Express lifts was such a design trademark of theirs. They were almost obsessive about it, even to the point where the windows on the Express Lift Tower in Northampton are obround shaped!

yeah it definitely is so synonymous with the company before otis bought them and very quickly lowered their lift quality. I didn't realise the Express Lift Tower had the windows the same shape too!

Its good to see they have left some of the original features. I wonder if express put the alarm buttons up high to stop kids from playing.

idk if that was why, it could have been i suppose, but if i installed lifts i would just stick a protective casing or something over the button so that little kids couldn't press the button but adults and more mature kids could open it in an emergency

It would be interesting to see weather that “excess load” thing still works, but unfortunately there’s no way to do it unless you had like 10 people with you.

the new buttons were added so the lifts were compliant with regulations, however 2 of them still have the old buttons in as well which i like
