The EXR mode of Fuji X10 and the benefits of shooting at 6 Pix (not 12 Mpix)!

Good video Tom! Maybe the EXR-SN should be used in very low light conditions, to see the difference, I dont use it that much to be honest. I guess this modes are for begginers, Like Advanced Auto Mode, In which you can prioritize.

Hi Tommy! Thanks a lot for your feedback. Yes, the EXR-SN is indeed most suited for low light conditions. Low light means high ISO, so one would expect to see some effect in any high ISO image. I, too, don't use it very much in practice. Kind regards!

Hi Tom...very interesting video! Yes Fuji EXR mode's are little enigma's ...cracking the code! If i compare EXR snr 6 mp with 6mp in aperture mode at iso 3200, i see a bit les color noise and the overall noise is smoother( in snr mode) also a little more detail but the diffrences are minor! Yes i gonna try de EXR DR mode..looks interresting.I have nice results with the 6mp DR400 / Iso100 setting ! Noise mesurment at Iso200 , the snr drops below the (critical) 35dB sensor noise...but perhaps in real world it's different! Ps i have my noise reduction at -2!

I am still recovering.. my nerves in feet and hands are getting better (chemo damage) still no hair and beard...but overall i am feeling better. Next week perhaps frost and snow...with a little sunshine(in the afternoon) i can test the EXR DR mode😉 .Greatings Tom

Hi Tom ,last week i did a little DR test in my dark livingroom with the lamp on ! DR 400 blown out...with EXR DR1600..not blown out ( both iso400)interesting is the histogram change..a dip (Exr) in higher midrange @@tom_photo

@@janbroekema Hi Jan! Nice to hear from you! Yes, the DR1600 is pretty amazing. It combines multiple exposure levels and tone curve adjustment. I think what you saw in the tone curve is exactly the curve adjustment the software is doing. All the best to you!

I have a Fujifilm Finepix F550EXR that also have this exact mode. Interesting to learn about how it works in detail and how to make use of it the most. Not used the camera in a while but dusted it off again just now in conjunction with also aquiring a Canon EOS700 DSLR from a friend and the little Fuji still a great camera for sure. Only thing with it is the sensor is a bit noisy so at higher ISO esp in low light the images tend to get quite grainy. One thing that is for sure is mobile cameras sure are great today but they cant really beat dedicated photographic equipment although my current mobile actually has a camera from Hasselblad in it and it shows! So in short im now in posession of 3 really good cameras wich is nice!

Hi! Indeed you can. In the menu you have image size and quality settings. There you can choose a smaller image size if you want. However on the X-T20 this will do nothing more than basically just reduce the quality of your image. It will not give you a better dynamic range or other benefits. This in contrast with the X10 I talk about in the video. Kind regards!

@@tom_photo Back in the early 2000's i used to have a nokia phone and the camera was 1.3mp! I got a picture of a tree and it just looked so mosaic & abstract. I also had 2 nikon coolpix point & shoots, one was 3mp and the other was 5mp. Some of my best pictures were taken on them. So i just thought i could experiment with lowering megapixels.

@@reflux043 Hi! The simplest way would be to use a photo editor that you use to modify your photos anyway (such as GIMP) and make you photo however small. But you probably want a large photo that is pixelated (instead of simply a small photo). So, you can just use a pixelation function on your large photo. Cheers!

you can also get a converter that lets you insert the memory card from the camera and connect it to your phone directly :)
