Urgh. FINE DAN. FINE. I'll read the damn books. You can't put out a 90 minute video I'm not allowed to watch, rude. I'll put it on top of the TBR pile...

Ah yes, you've fallen into my plan that I've had all along! Success! You'll have to drop a recommendation of one of your favorites Benjamin, and maybe we'll have to drop our own 90 min video...

The Green Man does show up again, in the book 4 Rhuidean sequence where we get his name and see him being given his task. There's also another Nym in the Bao The Wyld storyline that Sanderson ended up cutting from the final books.

1:13:20 for Mistborn. For me it was a low 3.5/5 for me but books 2 and 3 got successively better for me 4.25 and 4.5 respectively. 😊 It was my favorite TRILOGY until I read Age of Madness 😅

Interesting... that makes me a little less apprehensive reading the rest of the trilogy lol That's another trilogy I need to catch up on

Mistborn is overrated in my opinion. I didn't enjoy mist born 1 at all. I wanted MORE from it. I needed to live in the world a bit more. Sit in the shoes of the characters. Instead everything was exposition heavy.

Mat saying he loves fighting/battles in one of the first chapters made me laugh so hard

I must have missed that, because that would be hilarious on a reread

Really great first episode for this series. I am excited to see how your re-read goes through the next books, it is crazy to think how dumb these farm people start and how far they are going to go.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I agree, I'm excited to relive the growth they all experience

Nice, I'm glad you like the prose. I think Robert Jordan's prose is best for highly visual readers. IDK but people seem to be all over the place on rating it. Also it just has so much content. All the modern fantasy I read feels like fluff if it's a long book
@DiggerdanReads5 ай бұрын
That would make sense, for me reading often times is like "reading a movie" in my head. I agree different people prefer different styles of writing

Damn this is long, but here I am. I started my third, possibly fourth, reread recently

Congrats! Have you read it or listened? I did both and I enjoyed the variety for rereads.

Lan and rands relationship is awesome to me as well. I think you really start to notice it when Rand is going to meet the Queen and the Amerlyn Seat and Lan teaches him a simple way of walking and speaking before hand so he’s no completely defenseless against the Aies Sedia and more political people. Then on into his months of sword training. Lan knows what Rand is going to face and tries to prepare him for a duty that reminds him of his own duties and himself

Yes! Those are such great scenes, especially because they get caught off guard about his demeanor. Thinking he's "just a farm boy." I agree! I know some people joke that its "one animal pose to a plant pose" but there is something about how Jordan writes those scenes that really work for me

Not all the way through the video yet, but there's another prologue that isn't in the early edition hardcovers?!?!? I had to check my goofy 30th anniversary silver edition, and sure enough it's there. I don't remember my favorite character from my first read over 20 years ago, but I'm really liking Perrin's POV and his character building. I do like Rand's character POV, but I grab onto the family/father thing. One point I think that might not get talked about much, with respect to Austin's dislike. EotW was released in 1990 and I think a lot of us that grew up in the 80's and 90's might have cut our teeth on Hobbit and LotR, can likely much more easily fall in love with Wheel of Time as opposed to people that might have picked it up for the first time in the last 10 years. There is so much good epic fantasy now, that WoT might feel dated or have a bit too much in the way of word count for "modern" readers of epic fantasy. I love the series, but I can understand how people, ala Austin, can find it boring or too long or whatever. I think the writing is very good, however the story may not hit as well for everyone these days.

Yes! Like I mentioned, I was surprised to realize it was a later addition and only discovered it because the audiobook completely skips it. That is a great point! And it makes me really appreciate finding the WoT early into my "fantasy career." Thanks for the comment Adam!

Mat was still ride or die in book 1. He stole a magic dagger out of a darkfriend assassin's hand while Rand was too sick to defend himself. Book1 Mat is still an absolute bro.
@DiggerdanReadsАй бұрын
That is true! That scene I think gets glossed over a bit as far as showing Mat's true character early on

Can I watch this video before I finish the series or do you talk about books past the 1st one
@DiggerdanReadsАй бұрын
Hi Spencer! Sorry for taking forever in responding. We try our best to avoid spoilers past book one, but we do spoil a couple of things later in the series

Yeah, Randland is earth, and if the hero was a woman it would be Amaterasu (Japanese folklore) instead of the dragon. At least that's what I've heard.

I think you guys should embrace the spoilers. You are re readers and I would imagine most of us in the audience are also re-readers. The books are so good because of the set-ups. I think it would be a disservice to not talk about all that cool stuff.
@DiggerdanReads5 ай бұрын
That's fair, and the WoT nerd in me wants to go full series spoilers for every book, but I think there is something to be said about trying to focus the conversation to the current book we've most recently read and all previous books in the series
