It’s because not enough people know about these readings. I didn’t- found it only after searching for EF Benson. Somehow we need to alert the listening public! The story telling is of exceptional quality!

I read this years ago, but I wasn’t able to remember what the name of the story was or the author. I’m so happy to find it again!

You are so good, Richard definitely up there with Simon from bite-sized audio classics and Greg from the Sherlock Holmes channel, Ian, from horror babble, and ghost stories Tony, actually the truth is that you are ALL so very good at what you do so wonderful such amazing voice readers it would certainly for me be impossible and it is impossible, to choose a favorite to choose a ", BEST"

I've heard this at least once. You did an excellent job reading it. Keep up the good work. This channel deserves to grow!

I love this era of ghost stories, but many of the narrators on other channels have odd tricks of mis-emphasis or rather gimmicky styles of delivery which take me out of the story. You have neither, and while that may seem faint praise it means everything to an old pedant like me. You serve these stories well, and it feels like you get the sense of them. Well done, and thank you.

Stifling heat in the city in summer. No wonder everyone who could left it to catch a Sea breeze or be near water they could bathe in and their children could splash around in. It's hard to imagine a Time, in this age of air conditioning everywhere we go, that time back then we're even electric fans did not exist yet, everything was about water or living in fervent hope for any sort of breeze or moving air. We are so spoiled, aren't we! I'm sure drinking tons of water was perhaps not a thing that was common and of course in many places in London drinking water was a risk to life!

Exactly! A great analysis. It often strikes me that Benson’s ghost stories take place far more often in the stormy, oppressive heat of summer than the misty, dank gloom of autumn or winter. I wonder what he found so threatening in hot weather?

@@GhostsByRC A resounding good question! Perhaps something to do with associations that grow up with us from childhood and stick around where we find them when we're older, in this season or that, yay or nay, pro or con. Perhaps it's different for everyone but I sure do appreciate my air conditioning when it's warranted, that's for sure!

I wish you could just read the story and NOT use sound effects. Like laugh tracks, if it’s well-written they’re not necessary; if not well-written, they won’t help

I love you brother. You tell stories as they should be told. That's the only way I know how to describe your talent. By rights you should be garnering new subscribers by the thousands. Please continue. Maybe this is a secondary or even a tertiary hobby or maybe even a love of yours. All I know is if I had the talent to read and narrate like you I would be blessed. Alas, I do not. My grandchildren lose interest when I read A Christmas Carol to them. Quickly. Your drama infused with superb vocal inflections and perfect english enunciation are just right. Now I sound like the baby bear. I hope and pray you continue. Especially in the horror genre. But a little horror/sci-fi and mystery peppered in here and there would be grand too.

Thank you so much! What an accolade. I’m really grateful when people take the time to express their appreciation. I’ve been out of action with a bad cold for a couple of weeks, but I’m getting my voice back in time for Hallowe’en. Stay tuned!
