Some of y'all should show some respect for the guy who wrote a shit-ton of great drum parts, has groove & feel for miles and laid the foundation for the band's sound. I'd put money on the fact that Rudinger (amazing drummer, btw) would pay respects to Cooper for that. Nitpicking comparisons of them are irrelevant and lame.

Fucking agreed. Lyle, while not being amazingly technically proficient (compared to the likes of Alex etc.) has got such a great feel. He was perfect for Planetary Duality. One of the best DM records of all time for me.

For all the Alex Vs. Lyle people, I've seen the faceless 3 times now, once in 2011, at this very show in 2012 and at a small venue this year with alex rudinger. You can not tell a single difference when it comes to the faceless. Alex rudinger is more famous and has i guess a bigger "resume" is what youd call it. But you have to remember the faceless is as good as they are because of the drums. Lyle has played a huge part in developing the faceless and for that i will miss Lyle. However with that being said I don't doubt Alex one bit especially after seeing them, they found an awesome replacement. So everyone STFU about alex and lyle now. they are both kick ass drummers in all aspects

Yeah but lets be real, writing a part doesn't mean you're guaranteed to play it "best". I mean in this case, they're both amazing and do great. But there will always be cases of better drummers taking over. I mean shit, Travis Orbin plays for Darkest Hour now, and you KNOW Travis is just objectively a better player than their old drummer.

I just eish Lyle got more recognition. He really is a machine and one of my greatest drumming inspirations. I love Alex and he seems very diverse. But Lyle could do so much!

Alex is phenomenal. But I do notice he has a thing about slowing some songs down by a few bpm when he covers them. He did it with a Faceless song. He doesn't seem to be able to play stuff comfortably over a certain speed. He's more old school in his approach, of using mainly singles on the feet instead of doubles, to reach high bpms. Not that he's bad by any means at all.

Lyle was miles ahead of his time. Alex Rudinger and Aaron Stechauner are amazing in their own respect but Lyle put in the work to track these songs and set them in stone for others to learn.

@@decimater75 Of course Alex can play it perfectly, but its not just about playing every note perfectly. Nobody will know those songs as intimately as Lyle and that comes out as passion in the song. Not that Alex doesn't play the songs with passion though...damn it really is hard to explain. All I can say is Lyle is responsible for writing some of the best drums to ever happen to metal on one of the best and most influential modern tech/prog death metal concept albums. Planetary Duality changed the game when it came out. Could you imagine any other drums written on this album? Would it be as important as it is? I can't, and I don't think so. I just wish the dude got more credit and recognition.

Wait if any of you are hating on him in this performance he’s CLEARLY pissed at the drum text for putting a fucking cow bell or some other piece down under his right Tom mic and he his it several times in the coming measure after about 2:30 and you can see him look around absolutely pissed and still crushes without missing a beat. Saying "Alex hits always the same like a robot" has to be the biggest load of crap I have ever heard! Yes he hit's consistently where he is required to in a song with amazing precision. But by no means is he incapable of using dynamics around the kit, he is infact very capable and does it very well.
