🚀 NEW SEASON LAUNCH 🚀
Season 2 is all about relationships and my own Mom so graciously agreed to come and talk about the mother/child bond & evolution over time in our kick-off episode!
The title of the episode is a bit tongue in cheek as I’m not sure how many will get that tongue in cheek reference, but my Mom, Lisa Whelchel, was on a show in the 80’s called The Facts of Life.
Yet, the reason I’m having her as a guest is because she is truly the person who has had the biggest impact on me out of anyone in my life. After a clip of me reading some feedback she gave me went viral and hit over a million views the comments were flooded by people curious what a healthy mother/adult daughter even looks like with request to hear more from her wisdom.

I watched the show as a teen, loved the Blair vs Jo rivalry, and had the biggest crust on Jo 💖

Haven, it was nice for me to get to see you again, as I had met you 3 kids at a non-Halloween event that TCOTW put on when you were still living in Los Angeles, and then I brought a bottle of water to your mom when she did a book-signing event outside at TCOTW one Sunday shortly before you moved away. It was a warm day (as is quite usual in SoCal), and I thought your mom might need some water to drink, so I went to a store and bought a bottle of cold water for her. I've been to your uncle's church a couple of times since you moved away, too. I enjoyed the casualness of your conversation. It felt almost like you were both here.

I stumbled upon this and I am so glad I did! Made me tear up when I think of how we could have behaved differently. But our adult kids are turning out well anyway! It just takes a while for some. Thanks for your honesty. Can’t wait for part 2!!!

This was healing to hear for me. My mom left my life at 15 and I’ve been carrying that weight for 30 years. Now that I’m a mom, I’m learning how to be better and more loving and honest. Thank you creating this channel!

I know who had this "brilliant idea!"😅 ❤ Love the FoL crew. I grew up with them and watched prime time when I was 8+ years old. I loved that they represented all kinds of girls. It was revolutionary. I started watching episodes again recently. It's so sweet and comforting and still so funny. Please give your Mom a big hug from all of us.

I have also stumbled upon this. As a 25 year old, unsure, adult woman this is the best therapy. My mom has been passed for five years and we never had a close enough relationship. I know she’s led me here to watch this before embarking on my own motherhood journey. Such a beautiful articulation of your lives together and I hope to see more! And I would love to hear more of your moms upbringing and how she gained so much knowledge on loving others.

You both are so lucky. Haven your mother actually thought about your inner world. She wasn’t self centered. Your mother respected you. She didn’t do things from what I’ve called the “you know damn well you shouldn’t do that” category. This is why you both want to be around each other. This is why you both have a positive relationship. I never wanted to spend time with my mother. She was twisted in so many ways.

This interview is beautifully done. I had listen to this again and again, and let you and your mother's words to linger in my hearts. You both are so open and honest with each other, and you were able to foster such a healthy relationship, and you give me hope that it can always be changed :)

I'm relieved to find out that Lisa realized that spanking was wrong.

Really interested in your comments on spanking, and yes I'm sure time outs will also be criticised in future years. From reading your mom's book sounded like she spanked the right way, not in anger taking time to connect and methodically put you over her knee rather than lash out. Was similar for myself growing up and although I think it was a good thing at the time I also now use time out or taking away privileges-how times change!
