IMO, review-bombing a 17 year old game that has been free to play for some 14 years isn't going to get anything done - Valve has proven that it has no intention of supporting TF2 so long after its release. It's honestly baffling - but maybe a bit less so when you consider how bots abuse it to gain on the Steam marketplace, and that Valve takes a cut of those sales. Thanks, Zesty Jesus! Valve really does need to do something though, because if they continue to sit there elbow-deep in their own ass for much longer they may find that their claim to the IP is irrevocably weakend.

I think one thing that highlights Valve's sheer malicious negligence when it comes to the bots and something that doesn't get mentioned nearly as often as it should is that when Valve started catching flak from games journos for the bots spamming every slur under the sun their solution was to mute every free account until it's made a purchase. New players can't even fucking call for Medic. Not to mention that this hasn't stopped the bots from spamming slurs since the bot hosters are already paying money for the privilege of ruining games so a tiny bit more really doesn't matter to them. Valve has, in essence, profited from the bots.

I'm pretty sure they know what will happen, and instead of fixing it, will just add lootboxes to Deadlock and call it a day. Seriously people, speak with your wallets, Valve only speaks money, not english, not actual words, they-speak-MONEY, the people that kept gambling hundreds of thousands of dollars into lootboxes just to get an unusual effect and flex it like an insufferable prick are the kind of people that monetarily supported Valve's neglect for half a decade at this point.

Something important to note about TF2's lootboxes is that they are entirely optional. Not in the sense that you can just enjoy the game without using the content locked behind the lootboxes, but that every single item which can be obtained from lootboxes can also be traded for *as part of the game* using in game items or real life currency (via the market). You don't have to gamble a single cent to get any cosmetic (aside from unusuals which are so rare no one is selling them, but for 99.5% of the playerbase you aren't going to want those anyway). I think this makes TF2's monetization much, much more tolerable than a typical lootbox model. Content isn't locked behind gambling. Additionally, unless you explicitly want the flashy effects or stat tracking cosmetics, you can get the majority of cosmetics for pennys.

I’m glad this is getting more reach. There seems to be this belief that this is a TF2 issue. It is not. TF2 is getting the most heat from it, it’s the catalyst for this outcry, but this is a Valve problem overall. Valve neglects their games and just lets this happen. Not doing anything to solve it. Counter Strike has been experiencing similar issues albeit to a less degree. I believe L4D2 has been receiving DDOS attacks. Valve does not care about their consumers and more people need to know this before giving them a dime. I also heard that these bots have been spamming CP links in chat as well. I haven’t seen it for myself, but I have seen screenshots… so there is that too. This needs to be fixed asap

@SonicMegamanFan7 ай бұрын
You know what's the worst part of these bots and hackers? Valve uses the same game engine for every game they release, it's just slightly modified. Half Life, Half Life Team Deathmatch, Garry's Mod, Team Fortress, Team Fortress 2, Portal, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, all use the Source Engine. Which means if Valve is seriously dumb enough to release their new game Deadlock, which is GUARANTEED to be made with the Source Engine just like all their other games, then that means 1 thing: Hackers already have exactly what they need to destroy that game FROM THE BEGINNING. Valve is literally just shooting themselves in the foot and reloading the gun without moving it to shoot again. Deadlock would release and IMMEDIATELY become just as infested with the same problem of cheaters and hackers and bots. And Valve would only have themselves to blame. They won't do anything to fix the bot and hacker crisis in TF2? Okay great, hope you never planned on releasing any new games for money because THEY ARE DEAD ON ARRIVAL FROM THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM YOU WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT!!! This is exactly why literally no other game company would be this stupid and ignore a massive problem this bad with their game. BECAUSE IT COULD INSTANTLY BECOME A PROBLEM FOR ANY OTHER GAME THEY MAKE!!! AND WITH THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF A MARKET ON THE LINE THAT'S AN EVEN BIGGER REASON TO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THIS, THAT'S SO MUCH MONEY THEY WOULD INSTANTLY LOSE!!!!

this will only be fixed when CS:2 gets the same review bomb #save CS:2 treatment. it has many of the same problems, but because its main mode is comp and not casual (as seen by the most players playing competitive rather than casual) the bots have found their own system of afk. they queue a match, check for a match ready, and a random number on a side presses ready. if that number is the correct amount, the other team of bots accept the match and once in game after a few rounds, one side surrenders. the only reason counter strike was never affected by these bots was because they are isolated and play amongst themselves, you wont see a community server that is afk'd by bots because they have comp, where only other bots can see that this is even happening. Its not just TF2 that valve doesnt care about, its all of their games, and theyve never made a functional anti-cheat.

I have a controversial idea but it may just work. Personally I think making TF2 F2P was a mistake. Now what if Valve were to introduce "premium servers"? A one-time payment to access these servers. With that the bots are kept out of reach, Steam has a new way to profit and players can play in peace, and people who don't want or can not pay are still able to play on F2P or Community servers. I feel like that would be a win on all fronts.

After 17 years, isn't it about time that the keys were added into the random loot drop pool - where they should have arguably been from the very start? It was that choice by Valve that really turned me away from tf2, though I did eventually return many years later. Lootcrates, in a game I paid full price for, that can't be unlocked through normal gameplay and whose loot pool is primarily common drops you can get through normal gameplay? These days they'd be crucified if they tried that little stunt. If Valve would employ just a handful of people to scan and ban bots even just using the methods Zesty Jesus used, it could be a largely solved issue; it's really quite mad that they haven't done more, considering how easily ZJ was able to identify so many accounts just from public data.
