They can pull down all the memorials and statues to these brave and honorable men, but they can never take away their influence for the better that they had on many. God bless all our brave men and women who died fighting for what they thought was right. Judging people by 21st century political correctness is foolishness and shows total lack of understanding of the human journey. All one can do is their best in whatever time and circumstance they find themselves in.

Actually many historians (myself included) do believe that the war may have had a different outcome had Stonewall not died in '63. That's not to say that the North would not have won, but it could very well have dragged on longer than what it did. Had Stonewall been at Gettysburg he probably would have been able to talk Lee into giving the orders to pursue the retreating Union Army on day one of the battle, if Lee had done this, its a slim chance the Union would have gained the high ground.

A very well put-together selection of scenes & dialogue. If even half of Turner's & Maxwell's wonderful portrayal of Jackson in this superb movie is true to fact in history - via the script & words that the gifted actor Stephen Lang is given to deliver, so well - then Jackson and his elevated spritual philosophy is even more to be in held in awe .. and indeed to be emulated in this modern-day, war-torn, socially-dysfuntional Western World in which we live. TJ Jackson - a true inspiration !!

It is no wonder that his faith was infectious and his courage has lived on to this day and always will but the modern ungodly sectarian humanistic atheistic college professor will slur his name because he was on the wrong side of an epic struggle and his faith was his strenght. Not to mention Jackson's ability to analyze and use surprise maneuvers. As much as I like Lee, Jackson had a much better understanding of terrain use, and his ability to inspire his men to keep fighting and marching was un-paralleled. Also, one must remember that the loss of Stonewall (the man who "swept the Valley clean") did not effect just Lee, it was a huge crush to the morale of Army of Northern Virginia and even to the entire Confederate Army.

I am not the one calling names. I dont know if you can possiblly understand this, but then men in the south were brought up in a way that made them fight better than the northerns who were consripted into service. southern soldiers were more willingly to go to battle and definitly showed it. The north one because they could replace their soldiers at a faster rate, not because they were better.

@539strt :Agreed! The majority of the soldiers fighting for the South were doing so not to defend the practice of slavery or continue to deny the rights of the black man, but to rid their home States (not necessarily their Confederacy) of the Northern invaders. It was considered to them as a second revolution, and was not about slavery. Only Lincoln introduced slavery into the war when he needed a political victory.

Could you imagine the feelings of this Mexican bishop. This importuning member of the invading army asking him to explain the faith to him. It must have been a real trial to his Christian charity. I wish I could have an idea of what was said. Who was this bishop anyway, is anything known of him? I wish they showed more of Chamberlain's faith in the movie, as a prof of natural theology, I would think he'd have something to say about it.

Many believe that martial history brings good fortune in death. Makes sense since the most successful societies have martial histories. Valhalla is a place where KIA went. Lincoln said at Gettysburg that the deaths would not go in vain. Maybe he had a point. The war ended 154 years ago, but still shapes the nation.

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son...What, then, shall we say in response to these things? med2659 1-3: The fact that you are so much in love with evil that you cant choose good does not excuse you from not choosing good. It intensifies your guilt. This assumes that you have a moral inability not a physical ability. If you are strapped into a chair and are told to get up and you make every effort to get up and fail you are being treated unjustly. However if you like being strapped to the chair and I dont want to stand up that becomes a moral inability.

I'm curious why you would think that Jackson's survival would change the outcome of the Civil War. It was Lee who dictated overall strategy, and like Longstreet at Gettysburg, Jackson would have had to follow Lee's orders. His (Lee's) blunders there, and in later strategy helped hasten the end. Besides, the war was won due to the North's superior industrialization, and greater resources (men, money, &weapons). I'm sorry, but Jackson's survival does not change the ultimate outcome of the war.
