was stopped by a well dressed Dutch student on Wenceslas Square one night, he had been robbed at the train station when he arrived in Prague, they took his wallet and passport. He couldn't get money wired to him without a passport and had nowhere to stay. He wanted money for a hostel, I asked why he didn't contact the Dutch embassy for assistance, offered to google the number and call it for him. He said he already called them and they were closed for the weekend. So the muggers had taken his wallet and passport but not his mobile phone.......I thought something wasn't right. He said he had no money for food so I said I would buy him a McDonalds as it was the only place that was open. He said no, If I gave him money, he could buy something in the morning. I wished him good luck and gave him nothing. I don't know if he was a scammer but I didn't believe him enough to give him cash.

A very serious and dangerous scam is when you "find" a kid "crying" and they need you to take them to a specific address (nearby usually). Police has issued multiple warnings about this since there are people waiting for you there to strip you out of your cash, car plus you can get abducted for ransom or worse. If that ever happens to you take the kid directly to the police station (cause it could be a situtation where the kid actually needs help)

So, I've experienced the "Dropped Ring" scam. Where someone runs up to you from behind, taps you on the shoulder and holds out a gold ring saying you dropped it. Then when you say it isnt yours, they say you can have it, but to give them some money for both of your good luck. So, I knew about this and in Italy, a lady tries this on us..so I said to her, "Yes yes thankyou so much that is mine!" And I kept walking. She started freaking out, asking for money..and when I said I didnt have any money..she wanted my shoes. I refused her my super comfortable teva sandals and she proceeded to take off one of her shoes, throw it at me, and then pick it up and walked away..with just one shoe on. I threw the "gold" ring in the trash, and hoped I stopped someone else from getting conned, lol. It was great fun.

What really grinds my gears is that they literally bring their families along with them teaching them to continue the scam instead of making an honest living. Oh yeah I mean he may or may not be teaching the child to scam but what he is definitely doing is bringing his (maybe even someone else’s) kid with him because it makes him look more legit. Enough people assume that no scammer would bring their kids along and are more willing to believe their story. Some people even bring their kids along with them while they’re actively robbing people as a bullet shield hoping whoever they’re stealing from will be less likely to shoot at their car with kids in it

I had something similar attempted on my in Hungary. The guy "found" a ring in a bush near the station where I was sitting and tried to get me interested in his find. His aim is to get you to pay half the cost of the ring and take the ring with you. I didn't know the scam a the time but I avoid interacting with people in these places due to scams, so I just gave him a thumbs up and went on with my day. Ironically a lot of the time, they rely on your greed specifically. The gold thing is intentional, because it puts you in an almost "too good to be true" position where you really want that once in a lifetime bargain. But if the situation was real, would you really want to take someone's gold in exchange for a fraction of the real cost?

Easiest way to get out of these scams is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere, like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones..

I looked this up because it happened to us for a 3rd time in Las Vegas today. This time they came up to our car window when my husband was in Walmart and my 13 year old was waiting in the car. My husband came out of the store and knew what was happening, he took the ring out of my sons hand and gave it back to the man.

Thank you for making this! I had this exact scam happen in Seattle, WA. I was on a highway off ramp and a guy was stopped with his hazards on. I don’t usually stop but that day I decided to stop and see if I could help. His car was full of his family and he approached me and gave me a card just like that. Same sob story, and stating he has his kids in the car. Also he said the ring and necklace was worth $250 and he needed like $100 in gas. I knew something wasn’t right so I told him to go to a pawn shop and gas station then because I wouldn’t help him. He looked defeated but I’m not out here to be scammed of my hard earned money.

When I was realy young like 7 or so I remember this happened to me and my family in Sweden when we were on a little roadtrip. It was the exact same sort of scam with a family that was “out of gas” so they stopped cars and wanted to trade a ring. I remember that we just left them after negotiating for a little bit. I also remember some of the family members were sitting outside the car eating McDonald’s like it was a walk in the park waiting for their parents to Finnish their “job”

Still happens, very similar scams, but only a few months ago an Italian guy stopped me in Värmamo of all places. He had the story he went to a business meeting but the people he was supposed to meet missed the meeting, and he had some very expensive sample watches to sell for a few hundred kronor because he could not afford to pay the duty on them on his return home. It relies on people's greed. Also they'll sometimes offer it as collateral and promise to wire or mail you the money back, on the premise that the ring itself is worth hundreds of euros the mark is more likely to give them much more cash.

Around 2015, I was standing by myself outside my small hotel in London when a woman walking past suddenly bent over and picked something up off the footpath beside me. She turns to me and says "you dropped your ring". I replied "no, its not mine". She then replied "oh well you can have it, it will look nice on you". I still refused it saying that I don't wear jewellery. She tried a third line of which I can't recall but again I refused to take the ring so she gave up and left. I thought it was an odd thing so I googled it and turns out she tried to pull the "gypsy ring scam" on me. Had I taken the ring, she likely would have harrassed me for money as a reward or as a small payment for the trinket.

I experienced this two times now in Texas. It was very alarming at first seeing a "distressed well dressed" man with his family. When i offered to pay for gas and ONLY GAS as the pumps were a few hundred feet away, they declined multiple times. They really just wanted to cash and offered to drive further away to a bank (to also trade for a GOLD ring). They left after i repeated my lack of cash. I didn't feel so about about letting down a family "in need" as i saw their rented BMW drive away and my senses came back to me. They really should have known a millennial eating a bowl of macaroni alone in a truck older them him was a bad target for cash.

He called me down from next to my house (suburbs), and after his sob story I blatantly said “Sorry, but what do you want from me?” They asked for gas, which was weird, so I said no and watched them drive away. This happened about 3 years ago on my way home from work (UK, Essex). I was driving and his car was parked up on the pavement, right at the entrance to a large A-road. So no pedestrians at all so it looked like a legitimate breakdown. He was out of his car flagging other cars down and no one stopped; I felt so bad for him because he looked like he needed help. I was the idiot that stopped *sighs*. Gave me the same spiel about gas, gave me the card, ring etc. i didn't really focus on his story or the ring because i just thought he genuinely needed help and was trying to convince me to help....but once I opened my wallet....something inside said no...but it seemed rude to suddenly say no to him. So I gave him £5 and his response was "this is all you have?" in a slightly snarky way and I said "yes". I had more but obviously my alarm bells were finally going off so I didn't give more. I got home and checked out the card and address on the back and the location sent me to an open field somewhere in the UK haha. I fell for it. Hope my story helps prevent others from falling for this scam. Just because they are parked up and looking broken down like in my case, does not mean it's not a scam. This happened to me in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I was washing my car at a self wash station and right after I finished a man in a grey SUV pulled up to me and asked if I had some money because he needed gas to get back to Quebec. After I asked him to repeat what he said because his accent was hard to understand, he asked if I could speak French(no). I told him that I just used the money I had on the self wash. and I had only $1 left over that he could have. He must not have been prepared because after I said I didn't have money, he pulled up a "gold" ring on a chain and tried to offer it to me after without mentioning a card. I briefly told him that I didn't need that he sped off as I walked away. I knew he was a sketchy guy just looking for a bit of money but I didn't know that this is a worldwide scam.

Yes it does hurt the honest people that really need the help. We have pan handlers here in the states that work pretty much like a company. A car will drop them off and come back later and pick them up and drop off someone different. Best think they say is to look at their shoes. Why would a homeless person be wearing a brand new pair of high dollar shoes? They hurt the people that need help too. If they really need gas then why are they wasting gas riding around asking for gas and if they have gold jewelry, why don't they go to a pawn shop and pawn them🤔.

Similar one in South Africa that caught me. Was filling up at a petrol (gas) station, guy comes and asks me for a few, well, liters of petrol as he needs to get to a job interview. I unfortunately fell for it. A week or so later, colleague of mine who I had told the story to, saw the same guy at another station, with the same sob story and same car, so told me to blow it, that he knew it was a scam, and the guy ran off.

Something similar, happened to me, in a supermarket a guy asked me if I knew where he can find a certain product, while I'm pointing at a store employee he can ask, another guy walks past us and drops a plastic bag full of golden chains, and keeps walking like he didn't notice, the guy who was asking me for the product picked it up and showed it to me, $1500 is written in marker on the bag, and says: "do you want to split it?" I told him to keep it and walked away. The next thing is to ask for what ever cash you have and let you keep the $1500 worth of jewelry, If you're greedy and dumb you might fall for this, I am very skeptical and don't trust anybody, plus I don't like jewelry.

First card had the street wrong (it's Ellerstra'ß'e), no house number and an absurdly long postal code that wasn't even near the actual number (40227). They also put a european union flag instead of a french one, lol. The phone numbers are from Germany and the UK. The second one actually has a real adress, which leads to the 'Tomi Automobile GMBH', a car dealership with a really bad rating. I don't know if the scamers belong to this company tho, because the business card phone numbers and the ones listed online don't match up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Life is full of potential unpleasent events. It's not going to go away by ignoring it. Doesn't mean get walked over. Does mean face the problem to resolve it. Otherwise it's just living in fear. Way I see it got to at least try. If nothing else the expreince helps with when it matters the most. Which it does. That said I don't reccomend going to Africa. People will death march you there. Though even then the one that challenged them was let go (with some others still alive). Those that seek stength value strength. Spines get respected. When they're honest. It's about getting the other person to consider that they're doing something counter productive. Fear will breed violence. Escpaism is the path of self destruction. If only scammers were the least of some peoples concerns. Thing is if you get scammed, deceived or taken advantage of then you were ignorant, weak and fragile enough to fall for it. How will you ever build up an immunity if you avoid? You won't. Therefor face the situation to learn how to catch on. Same logic applies in various situations. Things will get worse before they get better. Once they do get better though, you got it. You know. You're aware. It's not about "each and every scam". There's just certain "patterns" to look out for. You'll know them if you make it a point to look for them. Doesn't happen with what you know/fear alone. If you want a hook then consider how the lack of expreince could cost someone their sanity or even their life. I have saved peoples sanity and lives because I don't avoid the unpleasent events. Really important to talk sense into suicidal nitwits when they lie to themselves. It's why scammers are so unpleasent. They represent that "self delusion" that we can fall victim too. Yet even a scammer (or someone that hides themselves and self hates) can be convinced. Just keep asking questions. Keep showing you're observent without assuming. Keep getting people to ask themselves with the right questions. Then they can't take advantage of you. Even someone with a gun in your face will be defused if they question themselves when you're showing you're undestanding. Provided you know what you're doing. considering the advantages, I think confronting and facing a few unpleasent events is worth it. Make no mistake though. My reasons are selfish. Just happens to benefit others too. Consider this though. How many people have you taken advantage of without even realising when you're selfish? How many times have you been incosnidirate and refused to consider another perosons opinion? Perhaps after getting the last word in then shutting down communication. If this is so many people in the world, if the world is that selfish (which it is. Unfortunately) then it's no wonder scammers scam. That triggers them too? Does anyone consider that? Probably because they too live in fear. Or maybe someone judged them so they do it just so they know they have the choice. Could be any number of reasons. Reasons that none scammers gave them without even realising. Better to assume nothing. It's what scammers take advantage of. Question everything. If you fall for a scam then you might have bigger problems.

This almost happened to me in NYC. It was an SUV with two males in the front, two females in the back all of "middle Eastern" descent and they wanted money for gas...driving a SUV they need money for gas...Yeah, I didn't fall for it. It seems they target people because at the time I was returning home from the grocery store with bags in my hand, so they must of thought I would be the perfect pigeon for the scam. Besides, living in NYC, anybody coming up to you asking for money with a story is 99% scam artist. And before you might say, some people are homeless asking for money, there have too many supposed homeless people asking for money and all they are doing is using the good nature of people to supplement their already comfortable lifestyle. I saw a guy once asking for money while wearing air jordans and four gold chains. At least look the role of being destitute, not dressed better than most people working a 9-5.

Good video. Thanks. I worked as an international truck driver throughout Europe and saw similar scams widely. As mentioned its is common to have families in the car to appeal to emotion. A variation with truck drivers is to approach them at an automated filling station and ask for diesel fuel. This means the driver will rob his employer to put fuel in the car. The fuel is doubtless syphoned off or more likely pumped out. Another one is less tourist centred, a truck is allegedly low on fuel, the scammers ask for a few litres from the victim`s fuel tank to get them to a gas station. If allowed they "magically" produce a large container and a high speed battery pump. A lot of fuel transferred in less than a minute. They`re all over the place. be careful. Thanks again for the videos, a reminder for us all, even if we think we are well travelled we are all potential victims.

One time I was walking with my mom, and this sweet-looking older black lady stopped us. She looked very nice and looked well to-do, definitely not struggling. Someone who coulda been my grandma. Now, I’d been in Cleveland for about a year and knew not to get “hustled” as they said. My mom… I thought she was going to ask us for directions or something, but the first thing she says is not to be afraid of her, she was “just a woman, I’m just a woman.” She then proceeds to give a spiel how she needs 12$ for the bus, just 12$, she’s gotta visit someone sick blah blah blah. My mom pulls out her wallet and hands her I don’t remember how much. The lady thanked her and walked away. I said, you know it’s like 2$ to ride the bus, right? She asked me why I let her give away money, and I said she has to learn somehow. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This just happened to me 30 mins ago in the US. Everything about the guy set off my instincts, I honestly thought I was being robbed. His voice was pleasant enough but his demeanor was menacing… then he glanced away which made me look behind me to see if someone was sneaking into my car to steal or try to grab me later. Anyway he sped off when I told him I couldn’t help. I checked my car just be sure I was good and left. Won’t be at that gas station again. Y’all be safe out there.

The same thing happened to my cousin about a week ago, except she caught the other guy trying to get into her car, the guy pulled out a knife, she pulled out her gun, she said she’s never seen anyone run that fast ever, even the guy in the car peeled out of the lot

Happened to me in Dallas area. Arab with family, had rings and gold rolex. I was hesitant, looked at his plates and there was no rear plate so, sent him on his way and called the cops.

Had this happen to me in NYC, Queens. I was talking on the phone on the sidewalk, when a car approached me and the driver asked me for the gas money and offered me jewelry in return. I didn’t know that this was a mass scam that goes around the world, but I knew right away this was a scam. Also the guy had two kids with him. I guess they bring kids with them to get sympathy
