We live in an absurd world, and it’s the artists who seem to border on the unhinged and deranged who respond to life with the greatest accuracy and authenticity. That’s how I’ve always felt about MES. That lad blazed his own trail.

Who else in 1992 music was writing about the geopolitical implications of capitalist resoration in Eastern Europe? No one, other than Mark E. Smith, and it still has resonance today 30 years later with the war in Ukraine.

There have been many talented people in pop music. Very special talents. But over time i am leaning towards Mark E. Smith as our one true genius. The belligerent drunken old phet head. I'm so sad he is not alive.
