Definitely one of the best and, in my opinion, most accessable fall songs. I for one believe that the songs from the brix era were probably some of the best that Mark e Smith and the gang have ever come up with.

Hadn't heard this tune for over 15 years, then one day the other week I was humming it for no apparent reason but didn't have a copy of it so youtube'd and there it is. Fab as ever. Best Northern tune of the lates 80's early 90's

Bolton born and bred. Lucky enough to move to the US 15 years ago through work. Happy as a pig in shit but still turn to The Fall and this song in particular when I miss home. I say "I love the Fall" and the locals reply with some glib comment about how great the leaves look when they turn orange and Thanksgiving and pumpkins and all that bollocks and I just say "Yeah......The Fall makes me feel great." Whoosh, right over their heads..... Mental, whimsical Mancunian greatness and they have no clue...... Hit the North!

Probably my favourite fall song and video if I'm honest (though I don't believe Mr. E. About a mile from the old Ferrybridge cooling towers, the M1 passes through a concrete embankment. Throughout the mid eighties it had a massive piece of white graffiti saying "HIT THE NORTH". I always wondered what came first - the song or the graffiti.

James Anderton, Manchester's very "socially conservative" Chief Constable for many years, was the cop who "talked to God" -- the same one as in Happy Mondays' "God's Cop." He told the press something to the effect that God is using him to fulfill His purposes.

This is probably my all time favourite Fall song. I also like 'ghost in my house' but apparently that isn't an original Fall song and is a cover of a lesser known sixties northern soul band. Of course, this is also one of the most accessable of their songs and I don't believe a particular favourite with Mark E, but I think the fall were best in the early eighties because they were ahead of the curve. They have always done their own thing but that time they had a finger on the general pulse.
