I saw them in Perth Australia, 1989 iirc, was surreal, I was on working holiday there and they played at a small venue, weirdly I cannot find the gig listed on any of the tour calendars. Was primeval, they owned the stage and steamrollered through the set.

Clair Duffy Saw him at the last gig at the Hammersmith Palais, 2007. I managed to lean over and shake his hand. Very unusual for MES to be pressing the flesh with the audience? The encore, if you can call it that, was hilarious: MES and a couple of band members saunter back onto the stage. MES growls something into the mic along lines of 'Thanks for allowing us into your security area, we're going back to civilization'. MES leaves the building. Brilliant. A total one-off.

Personally, I started liking The Fall in the last decade, so I'm too new to be in the old crowd. I just love this song. I saw the Fall twice before Mark E Smith passed away. Brix added a spark and glamour for Perverted By Language and This Nation's Saving Grace but the late eighties (1987-1989) was not so good - commercial Fall period - which only improved with Extricate in 90.

Pavement, Oasis, Ought, Parquet Courts, black midi, Shame, Girl Band, Fontaines DC, The Murder Capital... The Fall and Mark E Smith influenced just too many bands

Same here, sort of. I went to Ormskirk hospital today, and thought of Ormifkirk, like it is on this map. Skem isn't, though, which I quite understand as Fkemlerfdale would be too weird.
