A couple of serious mistakes in this video: -the A310-200 and A310-300 are exactly the same size. The difference in in their maximum takeoff weight and range. The -300 also introduced the wingtip fences, AND was the first Airbus, and I believe the first passenger aircraft to be equipped with a tailfin made of composite materials: CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic). -Airbus didn't build 225 A310 as claimed here, they built 255.

I’ve not either but it’s in essence a baby A300 with a similar exit layout to what you’d find with 737-700 (4 standard sized doors and 2 smaller ones near the centre)
@bluebox20003 жыл бұрын
There doesn't seem to be an explanation why this plane wasn't more successful. Right now, it's exactly what Boeing needs to fit between the 737 and the 787. It could maybe even replace the aging 737 covering most of the smaller aircraft segment. If only Boeing had bought Bombardier's CS100 (A220) they could cover the entire market. But Boeing has been ruined by bean counters.
@doabarrellroll693 жыл бұрын
@@bluebox2000 the market for the A310 was pretty small, almost a niche at that point, add that to fact that it already had a competitor (767-200), it becomes clear why I didn't sell extremely well. It should be noted however that both the A310 and 767-200 sold in very similar amounts (the 767-200 sold 120 units, the 767-200ER sold 126 units totaling 246 units) meaning that both aircraft had each corner for themselves.

I flew the old 310 from Munich to JFK on PanAm back in the day. Interesting situation, PanAm were basically broke and got very advantageous terms from Airbus. The old Munich airport was very close to the city and had a fairly short single runway. Most other long range aircraft weren‘t suitable and the 310 could just barely make it to New York. So for a while only PanAm, not even Lufthansa, could offer nonstop transatlantic services from Munich. The flight on the brand new plane was comfortable and pleasant enough.

The A310 was an aircraft too ahead of its time in my opinion. When introduced, many airlines followed the hub and spoke model, and there weren't many direct routes available. Nowadays planes like the 787-8 perfectly fit many lower demand direct routes and are efficient in doing so. The A310 managed to keep the route Bucharest LROP - New York JFK profitable for a while. Real sad to see these planes go, I love them very much :(

My first A310 flight was also my first Airbus flight, my first trans-Atlantic flight, and my first international flight circa 1993 when I flew as an unaccompanied minor from Portland, OR to Nice, France with transfers in Cincinatti, New York JFK, and a stopover in Lisbon. What stood out to me, after having flown aboard loads of old Boeing and McDonnel Douglas narrowbodies with low bypass turbofans plus the occasional DC-10 whose engines also had fairly low bypass ratios, was that the engine noise was quite different. Whilst the DC-9s, 727s, and 737-200s of my previous experience had screamed during takeoff, the A-310's engines moaned down the runway. The only gripe I had with that flight was that Delta Airlines allowed smoking at the time, and the smoking seats were only a few rows behind mine. Two months after I returned from my first European trip, Delta went non-smoking network wide. I felt cheated. In every other way though, that trip was phenomenal.

First Comment For New Avgeeks: "Is That Airbus?"
@s2v83773 жыл бұрын
Why does this channel always use the title "The Fall of"? For example the recent videos on the 757/767. They were both incredibly successful aircraft even to this day that are now being replaced by newer generation aircraft. In this case the A310 was always a niche aircraft and never saw the popularity of other aircraft in this series. So did the A310 really have "The Fall of"? All that can be said for the A310 is it like the A300 both were the beginning of what has become a very successful line of aircraft from Airbus.
@Milk-ew4pf3 жыл бұрын
if you don't like the title, how about you make your own. I would like to see what you come up with.
@henrykaung90643 жыл бұрын
But they're falling from the radar! Airlines barely uses this plane nowadays and that's why it's called the fall of. The title didn't mean it wasn't successful. It was very successful but after time it will eventually go away because of age. Same applies to the 757 and 767!
@VisibilityFoggy3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this is a good point. It bothered me on the 757 article. The B757 was probably the most highly-regarded plane of its generation for pilots to fly, it provided a powerful mid-market platform that could operate rapidly from either hubs or smaller airports and had a lot of utility. Many airlines wish they had a successor. Every airplane type ever made will have a production start date and production end date eventually. It doesn't mean it "fell" or failed.

I’m fascinated by this aircraft. I think Boeing could garner some inspiration from this plane and incorporate it into its Dreamliner family (e.g. “787-700”).
