The Beautiful People in TNA was on of their most successful wrestling gimmicks in recent times. They got TNA some great ratings. Unfortunately the gimmick just went on and on. When Vince Russo left TNA they still kept doing it even though new bookers didn't support The Beautiful People so much. Velvet Sky & Angelina Love were in TNA between 2007 and 2017. Quite a run for two women who were not five star in ring workers. But they excelled at something else Entertainment, character and appeal to the adult demographics!

In my opinion they should be in some type of hall of fame. They actually brought eyes to TNA wrestling and made people want to see women’s wrestling besides just bikini contests and bra and panty matches despite their style kinda being Divas type, they still were able to go in the ring and make some matches exciting, because people either wanted to see them get beat up or humiliate people and claim victories over good female wrestlers.

The beautiful people were legitimately one of the best tag teams in the world regardless of gender during their initial run. Angelina being the in ring work horse who could cut a solid promo, Velvet having great character work and facial expressions just made for a fantastic combination. Not to mention they played the mean girl gimmick to perfection, we've seen other women use that character but the beautiful people are the only ladies that came off as legitimate b*tches and not some girls playing characters. Shame they never got a shot in wwe but then again it probably wouldn't have worked out since wwe was pg and they would have had to drastically toned down their gimmick

@@myuu18 I was just about to say Vince’s Devils too! Their stable actually ran from 2005-2006, much shorter, but Candice, Torrie, and Victoria sold it well to be so memorable. They had a very sensual entrance as well. Torrie causally telling Candice she’s being a bitch definitely gives Velvet Sky reaction. Pretty Mean Sisters or PMS with Terri Runnels and Jaqueline from WWF was really the first successful women’s stable however.

Most of the TNA execs didn't respect women's wrestling at that time even though they were getting good ratings and internet views. Apparently, in 2009 and early 2010 (I think), the Knockouts segments got higher ratings than the TNA men.

The downfall of The Beautiful People was the booking. The booking was absolutely atrocious. Angelina love and velvet sky should have been just a two woman act adding lacy and Madison to the group along with Kip James. Just watered it down. Not to mention their matches were often very very bad and Angelina love going off with winter and that storyline where she was either possessed or brainwash by Winter was just horrible.

- The match where Madison loses the belt by DQ against Angelina is in the top 5 of TNA's most stupid booking decisions: - Madison, the heel champion, lost the belt because of an interference of "mysterious" Tara and then they left TOGETHER. What was exactly Madison's plan???? Losing the belt??? Why did the ref DQ her? He couldn't identify the rider so she could've been NOT a member of the BP and she wasn't, so he screwed Madison (the heel). - Anything else would've made more sense: 1) One of the BP can interfere but she has the helmet so the ref doesn't DQ and Madison retains. 2) Madison has a new ally so Tara interferes, she removes the helmet to show the ref that she's not one of the BP and Madison retains. 3) The BP try an intereference anyway (because Madison is getting her ass kicked), bike Tara stops them (to save Madison's title) but Madison gets distracted by the commotion and loses the belt. - I was so angry that for the first time I complained on WON site.

Lacey wasn't just good looking, she was actually entertaining, she had charisma and she actually played her character well. What can she do, if the company just brought her up too early? You can't say you prepared a beef Wellington just because you got all the ingredients. You need to cook it first. Lacey had all the ingredients to be a top wrestler, she was just brought up early. And the worst part is, she actually showed improvement in the ring. If the company just waited, she really could have done a lot better

I find it hard to be too angry at Lacey Von Erich, she always came across as someone who was unquestionably where she was because of who she was, but equally she did seem to actively WANT to get better, however poor her wrestling was, she never seemed to be phoning it in. She's a classic case of "never should have been put in that position by management in the first place". As to the leather and lace match, which was indeed laughable, the mean part of me wants to say the reason they didn't make it a standard hardcore or "I quit" match is that while Love was good in the ring, she wasn't "carry any opponent to a great match" good. They probably could have made up for it with "ex-tag team partner intensity", but I don't think BP vs BP would have been anywhere near the draw that the team was together.

I think you're just slightly harsh on Madison. I don't think either her or Angelina were spectacular but could pull out decent matches. Decent... Not good. Velvet was everything else but a good wrestler. Like you said, if Gail could t pull a good match out of her then no one could. I think the lockdown match she had with Madison was better than the one she had with Velvet tbf I hope she hasn't replaced Serena Deeb in training. Dude idgaf Zombielina and Winter storyline was the best thing that came out of that mess during the Lacey Von Erich experiment! And TBP were the best thing to come out of Impact Women's division period and still to this day the *ONLY* gimmick that WWE directly copied with LayCool. They're fucking legends, very sad they don't get the respect they deserve for carrying the division. Right, I agree that their return in 2014 was good but at that point the company was going downhill so they went downhill with them, wasn't their fault.

13:15 the initial introduction of Winter being an apparition only visible to Angelina actually worked really well and was played excellently by the girls, it was both hilarious and eerie. TNA could have kept that up a few weeks longer than they did. Also, I didn't really mind the supernatural elements in general, it was a lot like certain eras of Bray Wyatt or Taker, which up to that point no female talent on a major brand had been allowed to do. The lesbian subtext made sense with the hints Winter was a vampire, but the storyline didn't explain enough about that or incorporateit into matches/plot enough. There's a lot of wasted potential, there.

The issue with The Beautiful People I had was that normally characters go through an evolution of some sorts once they start going into bigger and better. They never really evolved.

I'm sure plenty of people thought they were hot but i don't think any of them were really that attractive, sure they got flat tummies and kinda big chests but that's about it. They always look awkward in the ring, sure they probably took some crazy bumps here and there but everything around executing the spot seemed clumsy. Although to be fair i have most certainly seen Much Worse from an in-ring and looks perspective so it's not like The Beautiful People didn't deserve the heights they reached. Good on them for making it work, they achieved more than i or most people have at this point in life and nothing can take that from them. 😄👍

Honestly I thought that was the gag of the gimmick? That these arrogant looksist mean girl heels were actually kind of plain and trashy, and like many heels lacked or disregarded the self-awareness to know that. It's good character work if it is a purposeful choice.

velvet told everyone the reason the storylines were all over the place...in her letter, she said "i want to thank...vince russo"...enough said. personally, i think one of my favorite knockouts back then had to be sarita, who happened to have become a coach and producer in aew in 2023.
