When he said "never before has there been a war on children in America" I got so angry! Just look up Orphan Trains or Residential Schools if you want to ruin your day. Horrible things were done to children FROM OFFICIAL INSTITUTIONS in this country.

53:59 one little update here. Central American gangs have changed their tattooing practices to evade what’s left of local law enforcement. Your older members will have the face tattoos McKay described, but the younger ones will either cover their tattoos with long sleeves or have a small tattoo in a spot that only other members will know about. This started around 2018

I walked in on her and went "mom are you watching the Tim Ballard movie??" she didn't know anything about him and so i explained the whole thing to her and she was so sad and disappointed. she stopped watching the movie obviously but she had genuinely been believing this man was a genuine hero!! For years I saw OUR fundraising efforts everywhere. At first I thought it sounded okay, but the longer it went on, the more it seemed like they were really into appearances (and fundraising), and the more that people associated with them (notably Utah AG Sean Reyes) would engage in self-serving nonsense. One minor nitpick: in the United States, “mainline Christianity” tends to refer to the older denominations which skew more liberal (Episcopalian, United Methodist, ELCA, PCUSA, etc). Mainline churches have nowhere as much emphasis on the End Times as the evangelical/Baptist/Pentecostal/charismatic spectrum of churches that people consider “mainstream”. My experience with mainline churches is that they don’t care (much) about the End Times, and often consider it a distraction from the Christian life
@dayzdnconfuz3d

Catholicism also much less emphasis on end times- completely different interpretation of revelations from evangelicals … also DEF don’t use the scofield bible (abomination).
@angeline6477
@angeline6477 5 ай бұрын
As a United Methodist I can attest to that. The most that really gets told about "the end times" is basically "Christ has died, he's risen, he'll come again eventually. In the meantime lets help our community and make this world a better and more loving place"

Raised ECLA. That's all correct. Hell, i dont know a single time anyone in church mentioned revelations, any of the end times prophecies, any of it. We genuinely focused primarily on the "good works" portion of the bible, and on raising money for church members who'd fallen on hard times. I'm agnostic now, but, I have zero bad things to say about my former church. They were what I imagine when I picture positive Christianity, instead of the more influential national embarrassment of the Southern Baptists. Now, is that to say they are without sin as far as the usual suspects go? Institutionally no. The specific pastors I had? Never said a single bad word against any kind of people, and one of them would have been offended by the mere idea of using Christianity as a tool to bludgeon others. A rarity these days, but, I look back on him as a rather positive influence.

I already knew he didn’t care about kids, but when he made the comment about giving them “p0rn0graphy in the name of s3x education” that showed just how little he cares. Kids need s3x ed for many reasons, one of the key reasons being that with that knowledge they can understand what’s happening to them if someone is abusing them, and have the words to describe it.

if anything, getting comprehensive education made it absolutely sure that I didn't want to do any of it in my adulthood, the visceral discomfort during the "condom on this plastic banana" section definitely helped me come to terms with my asexuality (despite also having a high-libido). Is anyone else absolutely terrified for their adopted children? Both Ballards give me the creeps, and any time I see that dynamic, I fear for the children. I fear even more when affluent social media personalities go to foreign countries and snatch up Black and Chinese children (the white savior thing in play) to show how called to serve they are, and then they turn out to be opportunistic monsters. *Where are the Ballard's adopted children? i'm not american and do not reside in the US but know about ballard thanks to my youtube consumption (especially fundie fridays). so imagine my surprise when, on a trip to my parents', i walked in on my mom watching Sound of Freedom on Prime! I explained stuff to her and she was very mortified. She had no idea and I was shocked at Prime having it available without some kind of strong disclaimer. My mom's not dumb but as an older person she's susceptible to certain messages. Prime should really not have an actual propaganda piece out there like that with so much of a warning for unsuspecting viewers!
@searchingfororion
@searchingfororion 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately Prime is extremely notorious for this, they even give misleading descriptions (especially for "documentary"/"true story" type films) it's been like this since far before there was premium content, rentals, or add-on channels. (I was one of the first people to use their streaming service *way* back when it was new and the only opt-in was an annual plan, typically paid in one large payment). Unfortunately, there's so much more intentionally awful things built-in (and early warning signs) than just the warehouse and employee treatments. I won't detail further because it's so large now most consumers don't have alternatives. I'm glad you were able to educate your mother and set the record straight. *Do* continue to use caution on the media supplied and promoted. Things like that happening aren't 'accidental.'

It's always so interesting to hear about Mormonism. I grew up in catholicism and my fellow Catholic cousin converted to mormonism at 24! He is happy and married a pretty down to earth Mormon lady. I like her much more than him at this point cause he is constantly trying to shove his ideas down our throats. I'm still always interested to hear what he is being taught. Catholicism is already pretty extreme, but catholics can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. He thought catholics were too forgiving (what?!) and was the first of my cousins to convert. I found the explanation of the Mormon excommunication process so fascinating; I don't have any connections to the LDS church but I grew up in a very strict conservative Protestant denomination and my father was excommunicated after he separated from my mother and left me and my sister (he didn't go no-contact, just moved out and we really only talked on the phone after that). Excommunications were not common, but when they did happen, the congregation was asked to stay after the benediction at the end of the service so the excommunication could be announced from the pulpit. My mom had us go to a different church the morning that announcement was made (although we did go to the evening service that night) and the whole thing was hugely traumatizing to 7-year-old me. I'm still kind of grappling with it in therapy.

@@viridianacortes9642 It actually usually doesn't mean that, at least for (most) Protestants. It's literally contrary to the Solas to suggest that a church has any actual authority on salvation, but that doesn't mean they have to be cool with you hanging around if you're a creep, grifter, etc.

I've always maintained that TB and the others that took part in these "stings" were just wanting to take part in what was basically an elaborate cosplay. They wanted to feel like superheroes, Johns, Jason Bourne, El Chapo, and GI Joe. They also wanted to steel feel like good Mormons and this is how they decided to accomplish that. The weirdest part about it is no one called them out on how weird this was for years. Even when the organization was shown to not be doing much of anything no one called them out on it. I guess this is just proof as to how much money talks in Utah.

I noticed the hat made the choice to not capitalis Gardy's name. I understand that might have been a design choice. In my opinion, the written language of English has a very specific set of rules for names. By choosing to ignore those rules, it feels like it could push Gardy farther away from being a human and more towards being an object for justified ignorance. It's dehumanizing.

Thank you for the great discussion. 1. Some of the women's civil suit's depositions tie Tim to Janet, the psychic. a. Tim would tell the women that Janet foretold that each woman would be great for the cause. b. Tim would say to the women that the two were married in past lives like Chad Daybell. 2. Tim claimed he had visions. However, he never did anything with them, like prepping. 3. You referred to the following: a) A mother, uncle, and sister forced a 17-year-old boy to escape with them because they thought the End was near. b) The father alerted the authorities and the True Crime Mormon community. c) They were stopped at a northern border. d) The uncle and mother cashed out all their savings and investments. 4. Angles not spoken much about. a. When Ballard was starting OUR, Black leaders asked Ballard to change the name. They didn't want OUR to be confused with the Underground Railboard, the iconic organization founded by one of our country's greatest heros, Harriet Tubman. b. Ballard commissioned a potrait, displaying him and his wife carrying saved children while Harriet T and others are watching in the background. search in a browser: 'Ballard OUR potrait' and look under Images. 5. Ballard, Daybell, Jodi H, and maybe Ruby, all were speakers at the same Preppers' conventions. 6. Great YT podcasts sources: Mormon Discussion, RFM, Mormon Stories, and Mormomish. B

Ah yes the ol' classic "My group kicked me out/shunned me so now I'm going to convert to Catholicism" tactic! Gotta love it! The amount of times my parents would be so happy these people are "converting" and tell me all about it and I'd have to explain that they said this about the last several people that "converted" but ended up doing it as a PR stunt is astonishing. One of these people actually showed up to my church before and I'm still kicking myself for not getting a picture. You can just tell by the way the act and how they express themselves that they don't want to actually be there XD

While Clinton's extracurricular actions in office have undergone some reexamination in recent years, I would like to point out that they most certainly did not "bring him down." I know it was meant as an offhand comment, but due to several factors, President Clinton left office unscathed and more popular than almost any President in modern times at the end of his term. My opinions about the matter personally are nuanced but one key factor was that the people prosecuting him were seen by me and most of the public as unnecessarily partisan and openly hypocritical. The Speaker of the House who led Clinton's impeachment was brought down in the wake, as was his successor, for participating in his own extracurricular activities.

I was getting there; I took a break. 1. Some are seven pages or more. I think maybe two to four are long. 2. Some weren't proofread. Some have many run-on sentences. 3. Included are unrelated matters. 4. Some sound vindictive, depositions should contain just the facts. 5. Some state very strong opinions, not appropriate. RFM (Radio Free Mormon) on his channel, Mormon Discussion read all last September and October. RFM, like me, wants the victims to receive justice. How some of the depositions are worded, it could be counterproductive. He's an ex-Mormon and lawyer. As he read the dispositions, he critiqued them. There are at least ten ex-Mormon channels like Fundie Fridays. RFM and five others are as good as Fundie Fridays. However, they address more specific issues, not just individuals. They made it; however, they want to help Mormons and ex-Mormons.

I was getting a lot of ads for The Sound of Hope for a while and felt very torn because the plot seems like something I would normally be really interested in, but then I keep going, "Do I want to give these people (Angel Studios) money?" What little I can find from a cursory Google search makes it sound like this one might be a little more accurate, though.

YOu would be expected to go to hell after death unless you repented, but look at all the people in prison who have become devout. Sinners are not excommunicated for sinning (no matter how egregious the sin, ie child trafficking), because the church is supposed to help sinners.Excommunication is for something like teaching heresy.

So gardy marty was Mormon? Tim said that Garty’s father was an “ecclesiastical leader in his church”. And Tim straight up was silent about Mormonism throughout his films, just called himself a Christian to get a wider audience. He knew it was told he couldn’t talk about his specific faith, because it would turn viewers off. Yet 1) Mormons often don’t consider themselves Christian’s and 2) wasn’t the film supposed to convert or bring watchers to Mormonism?
