A reckless foolish Prince and an unhappy selfish queen, such a sad unfortunate love story, Troy would've lived longer :( .

She isn't selfish. You're very insensitive and rude for insulting a woman who was trying to break free from an oppressive life

i don't know about an oppressive life, i haven't read the book but in the show she looked like a free queen able to do whatever she wanted, surrounded by her maids, a husband that never hit her, and even has a beautiful daughter. you would think that her royal family life was so COMPLETE and that she should've been happy but no i think she was just bored and wanted something else new for HER OWN happiness. hell we're all selfish earthly creatures who am i to judge her! i'd do the same if i got tired being the queen of Sparta i'd take off to become the queen of Troy lol!

@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess Except if you look at the actual mythology Helen chose King Menelaus as her husband. She wanted him. And in Homers depiction, she actually wanted to return to him and leave Paris. It's also ambiguous whether or not Paris took her of her own free will, or whether he kidnapped her. Also, in history the Spartan culture was the leading force in equality. They were progressive, they were closer to complete equality thousands of years ago than many places are today. They were progressive, women could be educated, they had a voice, they were respected. There were literal laws of equality put in place, women were by no means oppressed in Ancient Sparta. Helen chose Menelaus, she loved him, some sources of the mythos claim she was kidnapped by Paris and/or longed to be returned to Sparta, and she was Queen of the most 'feminist'/equal society of the time. Yes in this specific show they poorly portray it, but that wasn't how Spartan culture was, and it wasn't how the Mythology behind Troy played out. She wasn't living an oppressive life, and anyone chastising her for her actions isn't being rude. Even if she was oppressed, which she wasn't, that isn't justification to start a war and that would kill thousands, and see a Kingdom burn. She wasn't just fleeing a life of oppression, it happened between a King and a Prince which led to war. If she had just been fleeing oppression, she could have done it by just running. She didn't need to choose to seize her freedom by starting a war. The utilitarian view is simple, thousands died brutal deaths because of a choice of a few people. That can't be justified, regardless of the situation. But again, in actuality of both the Mythology behind Troy and history of Sparta, she didn't live an oppressed life.

By trying to avoid the prophecy priam accomplished it, paris took helen because he wasn't properly raised as a prince, he would have known it was bad for foraign policy but know you have a farmer with the autority of a prince what do you get? Trouble

Great vid. I didn't like who they cast to play the Kings, no way would I believe that short stubby king beat Achilles in a fight to win Helen in marriage. I don't mind the casting of different races, but please cast people who actually look like warriors if they are playing warriors.
@fomalhauto4 жыл бұрын
In the mythology, there wasn't a fight for Helen I think Helen's stepfather King Tyndareus of Sparta or Helen just selected Menelaus it was either that or draw lots, straws Achilles was the best warrior in the Trojan War story. He'd easily defeat Menelaus.
@ThePaganSun4 жыл бұрын
Actually in one of the accounts, there WERE competitons for Helen. But Agamemnon was already married to Clytemnestra by then and in that account, Achilles was training under Chiron and was too young. So he did fight for Helen for his brother. In another account, Menelaus just gave the best gifts. But you're right that Agamemnon (one of the best fighters in the original epic too) should look more muscular and beautiful since his power and beauty were attested to many times in Homer. He was said to have "eyes and head like Zeus, waist like Ares and chest like Poseidon."
@alicedeligny92403 жыл бұрын
@Keys andFood I mean I'm not sure he was really meant to be that likeable. Achilles killed a ton of people and took women as slaves (we know what kind), like briseis. This just brought out the reality of the character. As for "not looking like Achilles"...honestly.

This is not disney. If you read book VI of Virgil's Aeneida, she helped the Greeks to invade Troy. She never loved Paris, she was kidnapped and wanted to return to Sparta. If you read the book III and Vi of Iliad, you will see that she has contempt for Paris and a desire to return to her husband. She helped Menelaus to kill a Prince Trojan. In book IV of the Odyssey, Helen and Menelaus are happy together and she talks about their happiness to return home. In the Iliad she only praises Menelaus and only knows how to speak ill of Paris.

@@gwynplaineclancharlie4007 the Story was originally from the Iliad which Homer created the characters for tho some characters were based or actually created and in previous stories and myths like Helen, The Story actually may have been wrote and told many times as the original story may have been very different before the Iliad, and The Iliad may have no been an original story but created from a previous story, But Helen and Paris did love each other in the true stories and Helen probably killed herself
