At the time Folie A Deux came out I had recently gotten out of a very toxic 4 year relationship and What A Catch, Donnie really encapsulated everything I was feeling at the time. I was about 20 years old and it felt like FOB was literally singing my inner dialogue. I like to revisit that song now on occasion to remind myself what a deep, dark hole I was in 15 years ago and how much better things are now. I’ve still got troubled thoughts and self esteem issues but I can deal with them in a positive way and my relationship with my fiancé is nothing but sunshine and rainbows so the effect that song has on me now personally is very cathartic and freeing. You asked for out stories with that song lol.

Fall Out Boy has been my favorite band since I was 5, and I'm 14 right now. And I'm not exaggerating, no other band has been my favorite since then. AND yes, five years old. My older sister was listening to the music in her bedroom and i decided to bother her and somehow ended up enjoying the songs. She showed me a few and I've been hooked ever since. I've seen them live once as a way to close off the hardest thing I've ever gone through. Front row tickets to So Much (For) Stardust. I can't even say I didn't cry. My best (thanks for the) memory of my life. I'm going again in just a few months from when I'm posting this and I am so excited. Great video!! It’s all very well-researched, and as someone who took a break from FOB for a few years and recently got back into them, it’s been really fun to visit memory lane. I have to say, I was pretty shocked to see the Sixteen Candles fan comic mentioned- I wrote the scripts for that comic for the first 3 chapters, and I was one of the minors that the artist in question “dated.” It’s been so long since I had any involvement with that comic, I had no idea anyone remembered or cared about it, let alone enough to put it on an iceberg! I can’t speak to how the artist planned to continue the comic (I left the project, and she subsequently started doing her own scripts), but if you’re interested, I might still have some of my old scripts or concepts for the comic on an old hard drive.

Great video from a felllow FOB supporter. Side opinion: "Folie a Deux" was an excellent project, I'll never understand why people hated it so much, to me, it seemed like a fully evolved version of what they worked on up to that point. I like "Save Rock n Roll" too, but after that, they seemed to tone down a bit, I still really like their music though. I truly appreciate the whole DecayDance era, it was a great time to be a teen. "Take Over, The Breaks Over," is one of my favorite FOB songs too. Also, I've had the demo of "My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark" since 2009.

I've been a fan since the day Sugar came out as a single, I'm 27 now and they've been a big part of my life. As a long time fan, you did pretty good! I have some extra notes because I'm a nerd and autistic lmao. I'm listening on 2x speed while I'm at work so I'm sorry in advance if I misunderstood something! -Hemingway is no longer with us, unfortunately. He would be a veeeeeeeeeeery old dog if he was haha! -The other thing about Donnie is that it was also Pete writing to Patrick, so it once again hits hard with the emotional aspect of either being the friend of someone who has struggled, or being someone who has struggled but got through it with the help of one dedicated friend. -On Jeanae, a lot of the "facts" about that relationship came from a weird livejournal roleplay account, but others are saying that its "been confirmed" it was her account. Jeanae has done interviews where she states she was 17 and she doesn't really want to talk much about it and I respect that of her, so we may not know any true details of the relationship. I'm not dismissing any controversy, because Pete could still be guilty of the things that were said, but we do not have the definitive facts. -I don't have any hard sources to give but it's pretty well known that Pete is the reason that Panic has a music career at all lol. I can't say or remember if it was because of Ryan or Brendan or what exactly the lore is with that but I'm sorry I can't send any real sources rn!! I'm sure you knew that tho lol I just found it interesting no sources could be found! All in all, I love your love for FOB. As a long time fan, it's really cool to see someone younger than me having the same passion and love for them despite discovering them later in their career! Don't let any long time fan put you down or make you feel less-than for not having loving them since you were, idk, a baby lol. I love that a bunch of other veterans helped you out with this project! I hope you are enjoying Stardust

Thank you for deep diving into this!! I’ve been a fob fan for a long time but there’s some things I didn’t know/ never looked into. I just wanted to expand on a few things: - A big reason why what a catch donnie hits hard is because Pete wrote it for Patrick as a promise to never try to commit s*icide again it’s also the last mv they recorded before their hiatus - Tara Strong had previously worked with fob as she’s the one that voiced the monologue in Miss Missing You - I remember hearing about the p!atd record deal from an interview with Pete where he said something along the lines of ‘he (Ryan) said his band was better than mine so I was like oh yea? I’ll see about that and then I listened to his stuff and thought wait these guys are actually good’

Thank you so much for this journey into Fall Out Boy! I love how many interesting and weird stories there are and there were lots of things I hadn't heard of before.

Amazing video! Honorable mentions (in my opinion) Tour pranks, Friends or Enemies video era, maybe Patrick’s tumblr posts during the hiatus (the “we liked you better fat” letter of his ) for example and others from that era

Hey, thanks for suggesting me to watch this over on Reddit! Wow, this clearly took a lot of effort! Thanks for putting it together, it was really informative (and, as a relatively new [but totally hardcore] fan, I certainly learned a lot of things that I would not have been able to learn otherwise due to obscurity!)

I really appreciate not only the work you did for this, but how thoughtful you are in trigger warnings and ensuring we know you don't agree with Kanye. FoB is my favorite band and this has been a fun deep dive. Hope they come to the PNW sometime!

Amazing job putting this vid together! FOB is my favorite band of all time and I knew a good chunk of this but WOW did I still not know a lot! 😂 Anyways, thanks so much for putting this together. Us FOB fans, we’ve got the best band in the world. We are overcast kids, car crash hearts, and youngbloods. And above all, we…. are Stardust. Fall Out Boy FOREVER!!!!

after the burning sun scandal, ill never trust that "the members werent the ones working at/with the club" lol its so funny how we all grew up to be more punk than the bands introducing the genre and ideologies to us

i just finished the video and wanted to add that Fellowship of the Nerds is actually The World's Not Waiting (for Five Guys in a Broken Down Van) from -Eating- Evening Out with Your Girlfriend

I know I'm over a year late to this video and someone might've already answered but if you or anyone else is still curious about Ryan Ross bullying Pete into listening to panic, it's true! In 2006, Pete told Nylon: “I ended up in a sort of ongoing livejournal skirmish with the guys in Panic!, where they would send me nasty messages and mess with me, and I’d mess with them back… One day they told me to listen to their band - which of course I did because I wanted to tell them how shitty they were - and was blown away. I couldn’t believe how awesome they sounded, so I signed them right away.” and also in 2006, Ryan told the Big Cheese magazine: “I sent a link to our purevolume page to his journal. I figured he’d never even hear it. He sent me an email saying he wanted to hear more, so he drove to Las Vegas and sat in on a band practice, and then he said he wanted to sign us.” If you dig through Pete and Ryan's livejournal archives you can find some more interesting posts from around this time too, very silly stuff

Awesome video and great, thorough research!! I've been a FOB fan for 10 years now and thought that I knew everything there was to know, but I learned a handful of new tidbits from this video :)

I saw the Pete Wentz "replaced by a clone" video ages ago, and the funniest thing is if you go to that youtube channel they have a video for, like, all the other members. I had a good laugh watching them. Not only were they saying that all of Fall Out Boy was "dead and replaced", they also had this weird conspiracy over Patrick being transgender. It honestly feels like a fucking fever dream.
