Script:
I am the fallen soldier, sailor, airman, and Marine.
Remember me.
I am the one that held the line. Sometimes I volunteered. Sometimes I went because I was told to go.
But when the nation called-I answered.
In order to serve, I left behind the family, friends, and freedom that so many take for granted.
Over time, I used different weapons: a sword, a musket, a bayonet, a rifle, a machine gun.
Often, I marched into battle on foot. Other times, I rode to battle on horseback or in wagons; sometimes on trains; later in tanks or Jeeps or Humvees.
In early wars, my ships were made of wood and powered by the wind. Later they were made of steel and powered by diesel fuel or the atom. I even took to the air and mastered the sky in planes, helicopters, and jets. The machines of war evolved and changed with the times.
But remember that it was always me-the warrior-that had to fight our nation’s enemies.
I fought at Lexington and Concord as our nation was born.
I crossed the Delaware on Christmas Day in 1776.
In the Civil War, I fought with my brothers-and against my brothers-at Gettysburg and Shiloh and Bull Run. I learned that we must never again divide.
In World War l, I marched on the Marne and held the line at Belleau Wood. "The war to end all wars," they called it. I just called it "hell."
In World War ll, I fought everywhere: the beaches of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the hell of Guadalcanal. I stood against tyranny and kept darkness from consuming the world.
In Korea, I landed at Inchon and broke out of the Chosin Reservoir. They called it "the forgotten war"-but I never forgot.
In Vietnam, I fought in the Mekong Delta, at Khe Sanh and Hamburger Hill. Some say my country wavered. But I did not waver. Ever.
In the recent past, I have fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Baghdad, Fallujah, and Ramadi. In Kunar, Helmand, and Kandahar.
As technology advanced, I used night vision goggles and global positioning systems and drones and lasers and thermal optics.
But it was still me, a human being, that did the work. It was me that patrolled up the mountains or across the desert or through the streets. It was me that suffered in merciless heat and bitter cold. It was me that went out, night after night, to confront our nation’s enemies and confront evil face-to-face.
It was me.
Remember me. I was a warrior.
But also remember that I was not only a warrior. Remember also: that I was a son, a brother, a father. I was a daughter, a sister, a mother. I was a person, like you, a real person with hopes and dreams for the future.
I wanted to have children. I wanted to see my son score a touchdown or shoot the winning basket. I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle. I wanted to kiss my wife again.
When I told her I would be with her until the end, I meant it. When I told my children I would always be there for them, I meant it.
But I gave all that away.
All of it.
On that distant battlefield, amongst the fear and the fire and the bullets. Or in the sky above enemy territory filled with flak. Or on the unforgiving sea, where we fought against the enemy and against the depths of the abyss. There, in those awful places, I held the line.
I did not waver and I did not hesitate. I, the soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine. I stood my ground and sacrificed my life-my future, my hopes, my dreams. I sacrificed everything-for you.
This Memorial Day, remember me-the fallen warrior. And remember me not for my sake, but for yours. Remember what I sacrificed so you can truly appreciate the incredible treasures you have: Life. Liberty. The pursuit of happiness.

Back in 1969, I enlisted into the Army, and went to Vietnam as a common 11B Infantryman. I was with A Co/3rd Battalion / 22nd Brigade /25th Infantry, working the areas around Tay Ninh. To the west along the Cambodian border, are the Boi Loi Woods, which provided perfect cover from air attacks. American infantry operations into Cambodia were the worst kept secret in the war. The topography was dominated by Nui Ba Den, a mountain which could be seen from Saigon, 55 miles away. We controlled the summit, and the VC/NVA controlled the rest of the tunnel laced mountain and the rice fields around it. There were battalion size operations every six months or so, to drive them out and take over the complete mountain. We always failed, our commanders made blunders, yet always declared a victory based upon body count. However, the NVA/VC remained in control of the mountain.

We both have a lot of housecleaning to do.... Greece is one of the seminal cultures in the history of liberty; the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae were no less pivotal in freedom's history than Lexington, or Waterloo, or the Battle of Britain, or Bastogne. "Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie."
@nickgrigoriou1643
@nickgrigoriou1643 3 жыл бұрын
@@HuntingTarg I agree, but there's one difference that separates those battles. The Greeks in Thermopylae, Salamis and Marathon defended & fought against invading Persians. It was European Western culture against an all out Asian invasion. Had Persians won, there would be no Western Civilization, no Europe. The battles in Lexington, Waterloo, Bastogne, were revolutionary wars between White Western people. The Greco-Persian wars weren't really Revolutionary, rather than protecting Greeks from foreign invasion.

@@Menaceblue3 In the end, it is the consequence of a lifetime in the Army. No single event, I have just served during a long period of wars. One was killed in Iraq in 2004, another died the same year while recovering at the same Army hospital as me back in the states. One was killed while working in Afghanistan in 2009. The last was really the hardest; I helped train him back in the states and even said the benediction at the deployment ceremony when we couldn't get a chaplain. Then he went one way to Afghanistan and I went another. Two weeks later he was dead in an ambush; he never even got a chance. Practically anyone who has served a long term since 2001 has accumulated a list of names as well. To be fair, I also have a growing list of miraculous near misses and astounding recoveries, but that is not who Memorial Day is for.

This is kinda funny but the US is probably the country where this reasoning is the least applicable. The US is separated by its enemies by two oceans, so it's arguably the country in the west that needs the least direct defense; most of the actual threat to the US has been historically represented by highly advanced threats like nuclear warfare which are not usually solved by Navy SEALS. I've always found the US' love for their soldiers funny because of that. If anything the US should be lauding their intelligence services and the politicians who managed to avoid total nuclear annihilation during the Cold War.

Still others might dislike how the 'warrior worship' is used by citizens and politicians alike to excuse atrocities committed across the world that do not protect the lives of American citizens, or how our government regularly stomps down on people's rights and threatens to use the military to keep us in line - all while soldiers shit on us for wanting to protect our rights. Therefore, our fellow countrymen have asked us to perform the mission we are assigned. The citizens are to debate the worthiness of the mission we are assigned. We can have our opinion about the worthiness of the mission but that doesn’t change our obligation to carry it out.

Sadly, even in South Korea, soldiers are not being treated well. All Korean men are obliged to endure 18 months of military service if they meet certain conditions (most men apply) after undergoing a physical examination. Nevertheless, the salaries of soldiers are ridiculously low and receive little benefit other than the recognition of military service as a work experience (which may lead to a slightly higher wage when employed). Nevertheless, feminist groups in South Korea oppose that even these benefits cause gender discrimination. Soldiers from all over the world, thank you for always working hard to keep your country safe. We will do our best to make your society more treated. Jay Muzquiz they probably will be in bomb shelters instead of getting their retinas singed by the flashes. If you’ve ever been to Seoul, twice a year, you’ll hear a siren go off and the busy streets empty in seconds. This isn’t a result of any nuclear threat, although that does play a part. The true threat for Seoul is long range artillery that can fire on the city in a moment’s notice.

This video was incredibly humbling. I have so much love & respect for the people at PragerU, you're like family to me. My grandfather was a veteran, fought in World War 2. He wasn't killed on the field, but I know he was one of these men & women who strap on their boots and fight to defend our flag. I wish he hadn't passed away before I was born. My family has shared his stories of brothers and sisters in arms, stories I'll never forget. His service truly strengthens my resolve. I may not be strapping on boots and risking my life, but I feel a moral imperative to continue the fight, here at home. Our values, our liberty, our country has been attacked from all angles. While I may not be giving ultimate sacrifice, I have an obligation to use that freedom afforded to me by those who DID, by upholding the values this country was founded upon. We cannot afford to lose this, the WORLD cannot afford to lose this. Eyes are on us to keep the global initiative alive. Memorial Day is NOT just an American holiday. We've fought the external threats of our allies. Those with a common goal, locking arms with us to defend freedom and liberty in the most depraved areas of the world. It's up to all of us to cherish what we have, and to use it in order to extend freedom to as many as possible. It's our duty to our country, since we aren't out there giving the Ultimate Sacrifice. God bless you all.

As a kid I never truly understood how I could possibly be thankful enough for the troops. It was such an overwhelming blessing it seemed impossible to say "Thank You" nearly enough. But now I know. It is to remember the sacrifices they've made, the hell they went through, to make sure every day I could spend it finding my own happiness. Thank You for this video.

Im a swiss guy. I served my time as an officer too. We never fought such wars, we were lucky. Nowadays we forget to remember those, who fought for our freedom and our democracy,.. I feel ashame about our decadent society, that forgot, that freedom isnt granted and freedom of speech must be kept too. I always remember those fine young men, who liberated Europe from faschism. Remember their sacrifice!!! Remember and honor what they fought for👍👍👍 i will NEVER forget!

To all the people downvoting: don't forget it's because of your unnamed soldiers that you have the liberty to obsess over the easy parts of life. Art, sexuality, culture, music, linguistics, sports. Without the sacrifices of your forefathers you could as well live in the British Empire or under the Reich. Don't disrespect the memory of these people, their memory. And I'm not even American.

Miklós Pál Márton Molnár the British Empire is not comparable to the German Reich? Who has fought with us in most of the wars in recent history? Yes they weren’t perfect but comparing them to Nazis is not good.
@momqabt
@momqabt 4 жыл бұрын
@@dankuser8303 where did I say it's not comparable? I just compared the two to the same level of murder. The British empire has in fact killed more than the Reich. Granted not from the same ethnicity it still doesn't excuse the act. Native Americans. Hindi. Chinese. Various Pacific island societies. Spanish and Portuguese eradicated to a near extinction the natives of now Latin America, the Soviets had their gulags. Remember who fought against these. On the battlefield, in the court room, protesting on the street. Most of them are nameless, forgotten. Remember their sacrifice so you can write your comment to me who I was allowed to write my comment thanks to Their sacrifice. Now read carefully again my OP. I never not compared the two.

@The Lonely Autistic Archiver the liberty to choose to be or not to be in dept. I'm not. My family is not. You have the liberty to be a degenerate. If you are I'm sad for you. If you spread that degeneracy, I'm sad for those you are able to indoctrinate away from wisdom. You have the liberty to engage with the internet or not. You are only at the mercy of technocrats if you revolve your life around technology. You have the liberty to choose your liabilities. Amish are not dependant on technology. Politics are as trying as people let it to be. The left wants more powerful governments. Remember that.
