i think defenders of the current way the ufc does things don't truly understand just how much money they make. They took a ppv business so people are used to spending 80$ a event, and made enough cards so they can sell tv rights to espn, and then digital content footprint and advertising revenue on impressions of their fighters likenesses, signed merch, then the games, and deals wth various countries and locations and then the gate money too and so on and so on. Then international syndication deals abroad as well. They are making shedloads of money and the amount they pay the fighters is a thimble compared to that.

Wow, I didn’t know this about the UFC. It tracks, though. Dana had a hard road in the beginning and the UFC came close to folding. He deserves credit for making it what it is. But I have noticed that, among people who went through a hard time and then became successful, they tend to have a victim-hero mentality. They feel like they suffered and persevered in a way that no one understands. So they want to see other people suffer to gain success in their business, too. To some degree, that’s a good attitude. Asking for commitment and accountability. But it can also lead to narcissism. And sociopathic lack of empathy, lack of respect for the humanity of others. Based on this video, it sounds like Dana is in this narcissistic/sociopathic loss of respect for humanity stage. Suffering/oereevering/then gaining success is a massive psychological validation. It feels almost spiritual, like God put you through fire and then brought you through the fire, and rewarded you richly for your skill and perseverance. So you sort of feel chosen by God. It takes a very strong person to NOT become narcissistic after that. I’m not sure Dana is such a strong person.

Ehh I’m not big into paying the fighters huge money. Using other sports which are grossly overpaid as the reason they should be overpaid isn’t smart to me. Half the fighters came from literally nothing, even a $10,000 fight is life changing to a Brazilian or Francis Ngannou. UFC has always been a place where you are on your own, you can build your legacy/brand however you want. GSP walked away a millionaire before Connor McGregor existed, Chuck liddel was in movies, some guys made brands/gyms, etc. I don’t think it’s the UFC’s job to make sure you get paid just because you have some skills. There are plenty of people who are right on your tail who didn’t make it to the UFC because they are busy working instead of fighting while broke and hoping to make it like a few people who feel like they need more money to fight

If you’re going to do a comparison with the nfl/nba/mlb pay you need to do a better job at the comparisons - those major leagues did not start out getting paid at what they’re getting paid as of current - the UFC is still establishing itself - it was created in 1993, but in reality it didn’t start actually grow until Dana white and the brothers took over it in 2001 - it was on route to being a dying organization until they took it over. So - 23 years of growth(31 years total). It’s evident that the ufc is re investing a lot of the profit into the business from the PI’s that have been built, the production level increasing and so on - I 100% believe the fighters should be paid more, but you can’t really use sports that are on live television that have multiple games in a week and have been established for half a century - over a century to a fighters pay that the fighters only fight on average 2 - 3 times a year with the organization being around for 23 years. Before you bring up “they’re training year round” - so do the major organizations aswell. The ufc is trying to become a mainstream organization that’ll be on live television but they still have a lot of ground work and reinvesting to do before that comes into fruition. To the People complaining about Dana white paying himself to much - if it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t have a UFC that’s around today. His promotional skills and business development were the most crucial role in growing the ufc to what it is today. Has he done dirty business and screwed over tons of fighters? Yeah, he has but not one fighter was forced into joining the ufc and in any multi billion dollar buisness, you’ll find this to be very common. Does he get paid more than he should? Thats subjective to what you choose to believe.
