Honestly, despite everyone's hate for this game, the fact that it's pretty much identical to Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance kinda makes me wanna give it a try. I'm not opposed to the idea of a Fallout-skinned Dark Alliance game. I still wish they'd bring Fallout 1 and 2 to modern consoles. And don't try to give me that "it wouldn't work well on a controller" nonsense. I've played it on my Xbox via Dosbox, and I have Fallout 1 and 2 on my Vita. There are plenty of buttons on a controller to do the stuff you need to do. Sure, you might miss a couple hotkeys if they don't add some kind of hotkey button combo for extra stuff, but none of that stuff is absolutely necessary to play or finish the game. There's enough buttons to handle anything you NEED to do. And a stick can easily be used as a cursor to move around and select stuff. Hell, most of the stuff can be done on PC with just a mouse and clicking. Which could be done on a controller too if you just use one of the sticks as a cursor, and A and B as left/right mouse click.

@KasumiRINA Жыл бұрын
@@AL-lh2ht Bard's Tale is amazing!.. but a bit infuriating. It's deconstructive satire... *tl;dr:* Spec Ops the Line in fantasy setting but funny. Long explanation: The main character is stupid, bot not like, a village idiot, but typical hero wannabe doing typical videogame / epic fantasy swashbuckling stuff... with narrator mocking it on every turn, starting with first wolf you kill dropping armor, gems and sword as loot (later loot is just items like fangs and skins the animal would actually have), and continuing with the Bard REALLY getting the obvious nailed into his head, that he should have stayed with the country girl... The humor is GREAT, it's not grating, but the inability for you to stop main character from making mistakes by acting like a hero is what can be infuriating... when you see someone about to step on a rake but cannot do anything to prevent the disaster. The lead is voiced by Cary Elwes. In his Princess Bride / Robin Hood Men in Tights mode. Like, it's highbrow humor without being pretentious. The SONGS, oh my God, absolutely the best sing-along songs in any game ever, Bad Luck to Be You is like Still Alive in Portal level of ingenuity, and it's just one of many gems. Gameplay is solid slasher with actually meaningful action-RPG elements, like more story and less dungeon-crawling Diablo. It's very good. Roasts all stupid cliches, the very first mission makes fun of being nice to people for "romance" options to first quest being a rat cellar... The developer, InXile, went on to reboot the Wasteland series. They're one of new wave of isometric RPG makers along with Obsidian and Harebrained, remember when people Kickstarted games that were made in spirit of Infinity Engine stuff or original Fallouts? I wonder if Larian's BG3 now will pave wave for more classic RPGs but now with a bigger budget... Anyway this video got me waxing nostalgic.

You also forgot to mention that one of the "twist of the knife" was when the creators of Baldurs gate launched a lawsuit against Black Isle and won. This was done because they were contracted by Baldurs gate to make the game, lending them their engine. Black Isle would re-use the engine for BOS, but without their permission or even acknowleging the original engine creators. Ultimately, what killed the Interplay/ Black Isle Fallout universe was their own hubris and overreaching what they could get away with.

It's an interesting experience going back to it now after having played the rest of the series. As many faults as this game had, its character Nadia was a likely inspiration for the character of Sera in San Diego animator Robbie Robertson's award winning post-apocalyptic animation Fallen Angel. Robbie listed the Mad Max movies and Fallout games as an inspiration for his work, and Brotherhood of Steel was the most recent release at the time he started on Fallen Angel. On top of that, the characters are a near visual match, with similar outfits and hair. I like to compare the level of similarity here to that between Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines's mad vampire Jeanette Voerman to modern incarnations of DC's Harley Quinn.

So for anyone who was on the site Newgrounds in 2004, you may remember a Flash Animation called Fallen Angel about a post-atomic Los Angeles, by San Diego animator Robbie Robertson. The main character of Fallen Angel is a girl named Sera, and given the proximity of the original release of this Flash to when Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel was on store shelves as well as the shared subgenre, it is likely that the visual inspiration for Sera's character design was taken from one of FO:BoS's selectable player characters, Nadia. Seriously, in terms of appearance, Nadia + box of hair bleach = Sera. It's about as close a match as it is when you compare modern incarnations of DC's Harley Quinn to a character from another 2004 Video Game release, Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines' mad Malkavian, Jeanette Voerman. Robertson continued to work on his Fallen Angel project releasing a longer Flash in 2008, attempting to adapt the story into a comic book, and then finally abandoning Flash to reboot the story as a 3D animation, which ended up taking awards at several film festivals. So if nothing else, that was one good thing to come out of Brotherhood of Steel. That, and getting to hear KZbinrs opine about their BAWLS.

I am an old school Fallout fan, having started with 1 and 2 well before Interplay had to sell off the IP. Let me tell you, I was livid about how things played out at the time. This console spinoff game was intended to appeal to the hack-n-slash action game crowd (Diablo) much like Fallout Tactics was a spinoff that was meant to appeal to the tactical game crowd (X-COM) but this stinker of a game was just bad and was a failure. I actually don't know how Tactics did commercially, if it was successful or not. The decision of Interplay's leadership to not only make BoS but to greenlight and begin development of a sequel to it instead of putting those resources into their already in production Fallout 3 when the company was already struggling may not have been the sole reason the company tanked but it was certainly a large contributing factor. While I have played, and enjoyed Fallouts 3, 4, and New Vegas, I still to this day, over 20 years later, wonder what the Fallout series would have became if it had been able to stay with its original developers. I imagine it would have eventually evolved into something like Larian's Baldur's Gate 3.

Then I played it myself and absolutely loved it. I just enjoyed it for what it was, and not against what else had been released. Felt more Diablo-like to me. Decades later I still return back for a play through every now and then. I would expect similar things here with Fallout BOS (which has a PC entry of the same name but completely different gameplay). Play it yourself and make your own mind up on it I say. Watching this video made me want to go seek the game out and try it for myself. The final boss(es) really is fucking ridiculous, though. I'd gotten the huge payday of 100K+ caps from beating the arena in the ghoul city and spent every cap I had on stimpacks, the strongest guns, and tons of ammo for them and still ran dry on both and had to resort to just ignoring all the enemies to make a mad dash for the train, even with the strongest armor in the game and every damage-dealing/mitigating perk I could maxed out.

I played Fallout Brotherhood of Steel about 20years ago on Xbox. I think I rented it, but dont remember. I purchased it again a few years ago on Playstation 2, and its a decent game. Its like if you took Fallout 1 and 2, then filtered it through Diablo hack-and-slash, and made it for consoles. Make no mistake, its bare bones as an RPG. There are only a handful of quests. You fight a lot of non-respawning enemies, and find slightly randomized weapons, armor, and healing items. I heard its based on Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance, also a hack-and-slash spinoff of a CRPG. Having played that game its also okay, but it has much more randomized equipment as there are variants of everything. Fallout BoS is even more linear. The 3 characters(and 3 unlockable) are almost the same. Its just a difference between a heavy weapon specialist, or dual-wield specialist. The only RPG element is that characters do gain Experience Points for killing enemies, leveling up, and getting skill points to unlock passive upgrades like +25% damage with explosive weapons, or active abilities like holding a charge of an energy weapon. The overall plot of Fallout BoS is basically Fallout 1 all over again, so maybe it was a reboot. You fight critters, Bandits, Cultist Ghouls, and eventually Super Mutants to save the Wasteland. The only thing to actually do with the Brotherhood of Steel is you meet one of them as an NPC, and later unlock as a playable character. There isnt much replayability. Its not like the other Fallout Games. You cannot do things in different orders, look for peaceful solutions, be sneaky, or join the bad guys. You unlock 3 new characters upon completing each game chapter, 1 per chapter. Those characters are just upgraded versions of the starting characters. One of the starting characters, the Ghoul is actually bugged to have reduced health points and upgrades related to health are also bugged to only be about 20% as effective as all the other characters.

I like the concept of the game, maybe as a what if, or reimagine remake with some new cast as it own canon story, just replace main chars with new ones or have main ones cast don't die if it doesn't make sense to the series. then alot of reworks and side towns and quest. But I'm just wishing lol

Played it, accepted it for what it is, enjoyed it, beat it. Contra 2 top down, with fallout skin. Done. Of course in those days, top-down hack and slashes were popular ( Baulders Gate 2 is an example). Too many people want everything all the time. This is life. Take it for what it is.

This was actually my first fallout game, although I didn't knew it at first, it took me a lot to realize that it was from the same series of the third one and new vegas, (which had me obssesed with when I finally got them) the few things I remember from it where taking the ghoul as I found it as the most interesting option, and abusing the heck out of stimpacks in certain battles, feeling like I was cheating, not a bad game, but quite forgettable.

Played this with my late dad, we’d get the super sledgehammers and go wreck it. Had a lot of fun and good memories, with 1 hilariously bad one: On the last level the vault chick that gets caught in the goo begs you to kill her, did we both have mini nukes in our inventory? Yes. Did we instead beat her to death with hammers that mysteriously did only 2-3 damage per swing on her? Yes. We felt awful after that lol

I still remember when this game was announced, with a heavy metal music trailer I used to watch and rewatch on GameSpot until I'd memorized all the lines, loving the new style and visuals. Ended up never playing it, because I didn't have a console back then, only a PC, where I played Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics as a kid, starting a love story with this franchise.

Just gonna say, the story was better than I expected and was the Fallout game with the least amount of bugs encountered in my playthrough. Fallout Tactics is a close 2nd though and far more fun to me, if I turn the turn based combat system on lol. Also, 1-2 days into the Fallout 3 playthrough, I've already had a Super Mutant achieve orbit... I wonder if I will see him or is giblets when I board the Mothership? And I've played NV & 4 enough to expect many, many bugs Edit: I've also noticed a correlation with reception in regards to Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Arena and Fallout 1 are both a great story with a decent foundation for future titles, Daggerfall and Fallout 2 are regarded by some to be the best of the classic style games, Battlespire and Tactics kept the RPG elements for a linear story, both lacking choices present in the previous titles. And now Brotherhood of Steel and Redguard, their gameplay feels similar, they both tell a decent story but both of their combat sucks and ironically I think Redguard should have been released for console and Brotherhood of Steel should have been released for PC, I hate top down shooters that use a controller, keyboard and mouse feels more natural for that style and I feel that combat and movement would be so much better in Redguard if I was using a PS1 controller... camera angles in Redguard will always suck though lol

I remember playing this when I was a kid. Looking back on it now, it was absolutely horrendous, and in no way related to the Fallout franchise other than name. You're apparently just a newbie member of the Brotherhood of Steel meeting with the recruiter. But something went wrong. Then it goes on with the 'You're princess is in another castle' mentality. With you looking for your recruiter. I vaguely remember the end story though. Apparently a supermutant somehow discovered the cure to his species' infertile problem. The vault we go to at the end was some kind of super-hospital. But we blew it up along with the mutants within.
