I owe a lot to JP. He’s one of the reasons I went back to my catholic roots. His lectures on the Old Testament rekindled my Faith. That being said, I think his allegiance to the Jewish Spirit through the Daily Wire and his scientism are keeping him from converting. It also doesn’t help that the Church in its current state is doing everything to turn souls away from the true Faith.

Truth is: There is a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot & nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital. Faith attracts people possessing low esteem by delusions of a relationship with a deity, ultimate forgiveness, magical power called prayer. It takes outrageous gall, ultimate audacity, to express knowing something of a deity. The great evil of faith is it serving as a mask for insanity & authoritarians. Faith commits the crime of indoctrinating children with a fantasyland. Faith feeds followers with ludicrous nonsense: Numbers 12:3 Now Moses was a very humble man, more so than any man on the face of the earth.

Father Ripperger this summer had retreats to teach men how to be strong men to become Good Catholics which sounded very similar to Peterson rules for life. Take up your cross and follow me says the gospel and Peterson says clean up your room. On the other hand, when lockdown hit I did not see any Peterson followers resisting the tyranny where 60 per cent of Canadians had financial loss and there were tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths per year.. I pray for Peterson to become Catholic, in the meantime the Canadian bishops could hire him as a consultant to purge the Woke Synodal modernist religion from seminaries .

At that point, i was done with Dr Jordan Peterson talking about Christianity!

My understanding is that the biggest influence here is Jungian. Jungians have created a supposed map of the human psyche, and psychologically reinterpreted cultural/religious symbols within that new(ish) psychology. This might result in incidental psychological insights, but these insights could have only very minor relevance to those "in Christ". I think it unfortunate that he has chosen to use so many Catholic symbols in his (sometimes useful) psychological analysis, as I suspect it would be better done without it. And then there's his apparent (unwarranted) strong stance in regards to the Middle East. Peace be with you all.

I like Jordan Peterson and he says many good things. But he is not catholic, therefore, I take what he says about the Bible with a very big grain of salt. He is coming to the truth ( hopefully) slowly but surely. Being an intellectual, he needs to sort things in his mind. However, Jordan needs to understand that some things are mysteries and we will never understand this on this side of life. He needs to humbly accept that. I do hope he comes to the faith. I do pray for him every night.
@astrovarius5436 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I feel he is too clever and analytical for his own good ultimately. He's kinda built his identity on being a secular christian/christian atheist, and I believe he has served as an intellectual stepping stone for many who later found their way to faith beyond reasoning. Maybe he is simply serving his purpose, and his own time will eventually come. We can pray.

If I'm being honest I'd admit that my conversion ran along similar lines to Peterson's, I was just automatically seeing scientific explanations for some of the things that I read in the Bible (my parents are a scientist and an historian, its the way I was raised). However, I'm suspicious of everyone, especially influencers and celebrities, and Peterson is an influencer - yes, he's done good things for people, I'm not questioning that. I'm just suspicious by nature. And back in 2016 he called people voting for the 45 prez 1930's Germans if you know what I mean, and I'm sorry, but I don't hold with obviously overblown propaganda. He's smart enough to know better. I think he really is just trying to keep everyone on the plantation, so to speak, but I'll be charitable and leave it at writing him off as a grifter.

I will say, in spite of his seeming refusal to step through the door, he has a led a lot of people right up too the door and even cracked it open enough for them to have a peek. Many have gone on to choose to step through it thereafter, such as myself. But for whatever reason he's rather stubborn about stepping through it himself "Well it depends on what you mean by God" is rather tiresome for those of us who have stepped through already. We and he both know what *we* mean by "God" and we and he know what *he* means by "God". His question is only really profound to those who do not know God.

I have enjoyed listening to Jordan Peterson‘s insights from his perspective on the various books of the Old Testament. I think the hand of the good Lord is on Jordan Peterson as he validates a lot of what Catholics and Christians believe from a non-Christian/Catholic perspective, and is leading a lot of souls towards God and in fact into the church. He doesn’t profess to be Christian or Catholic, so I don’t hold him to the same standards I would someone who does. I think once he does enter the church if that does happen, it will close the door to many people who are not Catholic because once you become Catholic, that pervasive bias thats out there just sets in , and in many ways, our friends and family no longer hear us. I believe in good time, Mr. Peterson will enter the church as his wife has, and hopefully by then he will have developed good, sound, orthodox Catholic doctrine to engage his mind and keep it set towards the things of God.

@drstewart5 сағат бұрын
This is a case of judging a fish by its ability to ride a bike. Peterson is not a religion KZbinr, theologian or even ideologue (his podcast aside). He's a clinical psychologist who happens to find himself at the threshold of a journey into faith in a secular context. No one should be looking to Jordan Peterson to form their faith, or to be instructed in it. The difference, and the reason that the comparison to Teilhard de Chardin is dishonest, is that de Chardin was an ordained Catholic priest who as an actual theologian had a duty to teach orthodox doctrine. Peterson is a person with zero faith background, viewing and evaluating subjects that men have struggled with for their entire lives, through a Jungian lens. It's a false premise to say stay away from the gospel of Jordan Peterson, because he's not preaching one. He's a social commentator with a clinical background who became known for standing against the zeitgeist. De Chardin on the other hand had an actual duty to preach the Gospel, and the formation to do it. Get instruction on faith related matters from people with the knowledge and authority to do so. If you're interested in sociopsychological approaches to improving your life and cleaning your room (and therefore your head), listen to Jordan Peterson. The one thing I will agree with is to pray for him. Pray that he stops wrestling with the angel and accepts the call that his wife has already embraced.

I never realized de Chardinian Peterson sounds. I thought of him a bit like the Manichaean Augustin before his conversion, coming up with two questions for every one that he answered. He's great on personal philosophy, family and social issued, politics and the deeper meanings inherent in the best classical writings. But when it comes to religion, faith and metaphysical realities, he's just poor. To be fair he never really offered a gospel, that's to say that he never really claimed to answer to answer the most pressing existential questions. When it came to that he was clearly speculating.

True, but there's still a lot of dispossessed and aimless young men who are receptive to his foot-in-the-door Christian perspective.
