"The False Witness Case" (1955). From the CBS TV police series "The Lineup" (later called "San Francisco Beat" in syndication). The inspectors believe a milkman's story about being robbed is a lie so they go to work proving it.

It's wonderful, how they can tell a story in a mere 26 minutes.I like it; no fillers.

Thank you for posting! Actor Tom Tully (TT) plays Inspector Matt Grebb. TT was nominated for an Academy Award for his supporting role in "The Caine Mutiny" (1954). If you are a film noir fan you'll remember TT as Gene Tierney's taxi-driving father in "Where the Sidewalk Ends" with Dana Andrews. `

A good series of shows. I truly enjoy seeing the cars and styles and real telephones I remember from my childhood. Interesting storyline. I can tell it was low budget, but have no problem with that. Thanks for posting.

I agree. I remember watching this series as a child back in Wisconsin, and it's one of the reasons I moved here as an adult in 1964. I love the street scenes - always fun to try and identify the locations. Watching this episode, I am reminded that Van Ness Avenue really was "auto row" back in the day.

Attractive Jean Willis ("Alice") appeared in many old TV shows & "B" movies shows during her career, but always did a "class A" job. Talented Tom Tully can say "ah hmmmm" as only a cop, and a good actor can do!

I was 8 yo, but I've never seen it. We could only receive the NBC station 70 miles away. The CBS station was too weak.

I watched this episode yesterday and the picture quality was highly acceptable. While the narrative was quite good, it was not a patch on "The Hotshot Robbery Case" Season-4, Episode-18 1958 that had more excitement and intrigue. This episode starred the beautiful, popular TV Star, Lisa Gaye. Wish KZbin could locate this episode. I sure would love to see it colorized.

Debra Paget's sister Lisa Gaye was always great in every role she played. Steve McQueen fell in love with her in Wanted Dead or Alive but she perished in a very moving scene at the end of the episode. She definitely had a quietly cool persona... she used her eyes so effectively!

interesting how in these old shows, there was so little traffic and always a parking spot available were they wanted to go. these days are so different.

Hi. I arrived on the scene April of '55 ! Good stuff. I've been watching a fine little show from 1954 - the Lone Wolf. Better than living in 2024, Hee he. Hang in there.

Hard to believe that the weasle looking guy who operated the telephone switchboard, was no less than Aaron Spelling...later on, one of the richest men in America...and a record making producer of tv shows...net worth at time of death was $600 million...yeah...
