one thing about the phillipines i see, is that every person might look at you a certain way, but the younger folks are not doing drugs or stealing, i lived in mexicos bad neighborhoods and most young guys and some older guys as doing drugs in the corners or outside their home, and if your not from the area they would try to steal from you or just start saying bad things to you, or want to fight you, theres respect in the philipines i see.

I wish that I was a multi-billionaire - I'd give millions to the locals to buy cement, breeze blocks and steel, and build up their infrastructure: houses and roads. They would take pride in building it up themselves under the guidance of their own structural engineers, their own plumbers and electricians. The people just seem so nice and friendly. I'm glad that you make these videos, although it is very sad to watch. I really wish my dreams would come true to win that huge lottery. Tondo is so huge and this area is just a small district inside it. Not all in Tondo are slums, but most people even Filipinos from provinces think “slums” if they heard the word “Tondo”. It’s sad because Tondo is one of the oldest Kingdom in the Philippines, now the image of it is SO SO BAD. There is a current housing projects or should I say “condo project” for people in Tondo, it’s called TONDOMINIUM. I hope slums there will be completely remove and the image of that place will become good.

The harsh reality of poverty in the Philippines. I had to force myself to watch this video, watching it turns my stomach inside out, people living in the most deplorable conditions like this. especially the young kids, and the elderly walking in vector ( rodents, cock roaches, flies, mosquitoes) disease-carrying infested environment. What is the government doing to help these poor people? Hoping the new president Marcos, the administration can help them. This is a big problem in the country, sewage, garbage trash, all over the place. This is their way of survival recycling trash, and garbage, what a way to live. There are times that we take things for granted, watching this video and seeing people in poverty struggle like these people is an opener for people including myself.🙏

The guy filming is Philipino. A westerner walking through there with a camera probably wouldn't last 15min....

That was horrible living conditions. How could the government allow that level of poverty? Hopefully, this condition is only temporary, but I have a feeling it's common. Thanks, Larry, you are doing a great job.

@@anthonytrevino3191 Sure what about it? It's the Government causing most of the poor. They pocket the money while preventing a second-class society from forming. That's where the money is at, that's where the politician's pocket most of the money. There's much much more involved.

@@Hoosier_Boy Yes, the Philippines is incredibly corrupt and governance is big reason for situations like this. But overcrowding, poor planning, and straight up lack of resources is just as big as problem, sociologically. Manila, and Tondo in particular, is most crowded urban occupied area on planet. Something like 80k people per square KM. That’s goes beyond government mismanaging funds. You also sounded very befuddled like you never seen a smile before so i didn’t know. I’ve walked through Tondo and Smoky mountain. It’s harrowing and eye opening

Thank you for sharing these videos with us - your KZbin audience. I wonder if it would be possible to see inside some of these dwellings? In one of these fascinating videos I noticed a woman with dustpan and broom doing what she could to keep her small area neat and tidy. Seeing that, and the many, many smiling faces of children everywhere you went somehow gladdened my heart. Amid the filth and squalor the humanity of these people shone through brightly. I wish I could do something to help, but I am just an old man in a small room somewhere, watching, and sometimes weeping...

I'm living comfortably in Boston at 42y. But I grew up in a place like this back in my country in the 80's. My birth certificate to this day has my parent's address as 'shed with no number.' I remember playing just like those kids were playing, without a care in the world. I was 5-6 years old. it looks horrible but it was normal to us because we knew nothing outside the slum. My father worked hard and got us out of there; at 7 years old I was at a normal school in a normal neighborhood and was living inside a normal house. Very emotional watching this video; I see myself and my sisters in those kids. I can feel again the rust from the metal on my hands from playing around with metal bars. I can feel again the dirty water and dirt on my feet. I can smell again the dog smell, trash not picked for months or years, human waste smell.

A lot of people there are from provinces. Some actually has houses in the countryside. They just chose to live in Tondo for them to be so called "Manila boy or Manila girl". Some of them were relocated by the government before but they went back.
