I've watched Hikaru's YT videos, live streams, and interviews, he doesn't seem like much of an introvert.. You're sitting across from someone at a table and you've done this for several years. Im not saying it should've been a stare-off to see who wins but it was like watching grade school children being shy at the lunch table.

@Matthew-bu7fg
@Matthew-bu7fg Жыл бұрын
@@vaguetti5977 That's exactly why he doesn't win tournaments. Or at least as many tournaments as he should, as his talent merits. You cannot "sit" on leads at the top level. Magnus had vanquished his lead within two rounds. By four rounds, others had caught up too. You have to be merciless at the top level and play for every point - especially in blitz. If this was the first time Hikaru had played the 14 move Berlin, I'd say fair play. But he's done it countless times with both colours. And in blitz does it really matter whether you play with white or black? it certainly doesn't matter as much as in classical. If he doesn't win either the world rapid or world blitz before he retires, his will be a career unfulfilled.

This is the ruy lopez Berlin variation where you can get equality early on. A GM Vladimir kramnic devised it when he had to play kasparov and knew he couldn't beat him. Gary was a strong attacking player, so he reduced his offensive fire power by giving queens off the board early. So he figured he would be less of a threat without the queens otb so this variation was his choice of weapon. It's pretty much the opening you choose when you want to draw. I'm fairly certain hikaru was just not in a fighting mood for black and decided to play it safe then chance losing for a victory. But this is my personal opinion. But I'm fairly certain my information about the opening variation is correct. It's discussed in a lecture by GM yasser.
