I think they sound good, but so do the Helix/GoPod simulations. And with amp simulations, the actual amp part of the amp becomes unneccessary for certain more convenient setups, while the FX it has don't match up in flexibility. Finally, the sound will change during mixing at least twice, and any subtle difference may or may not benefit your final track in an audible way. It does look like a nice solution for either purists or people who really keep it old-timey-pure for the love of it. That's certainly as valid as any reason for a different setup for different circumstances. I think it'll be a good amp for a lot of people, and a great amp for some people. Well thought out.

Thermion have been around for years. They make some great pedals and some 20 and 30 watt amps. They have a good track record for reliability and rep of value for money. Check out the Heartbreaker Marshall-in-a-Box. It has a knob for both preamp and master just like real amp. Yes it has an output level too.Great pedal! If you are not subscriber you will miss out on great gear that no one else reviews. Worse yet from smaller builders that give better things for cheaper or competitive prices.

Thanks Derek! Tech 21 products are awesome. Bear in mind that the Zero also has the stereo power amp, so it can take all kind of stereo gear and push it through a cab!
@TeleCathster4 жыл бұрын
I think if they added some digital tech and had a way to load a few IRs would make this stand out more over the victory and other similar products. Especially with the ability to switch off the preamp you’re could have a Vox, Marshall etc preamp pedal and then switch to Alnico Blue or Greenbacks in an IR!
@droliver4 жыл бұрын
It makes ZERO sense to add digital emulation/IR on board to this amp product. That pretty much guarantees obsolescence as the technology changes or the software/hardware is no longer supported as been evidenced multiple times over the last 4 decades. Much better to get a cheap IR loader or something like the Two Notes Torpedo M+ if you want IR's.

solid-state loud. Tube amps are rated RMS, or running power. Their peaks are much higher. Analog and digital stuff is measured in maximum output. The actual power of this amp is probably around 15 or 20 watts.

Glad to see products like this. Still, important to note that this is a Kickstarter product with all that that implies. Also, it appears to be a one trick pony for the most part, being a one channel, clean amp. Good if you want that sort of thing. Clearly this is following in the steps of the classic SansAmp line and more recently, Thomas Blug's BluGuitar NanoTube Amp pedals. For my money and tastes, the BluGuitar stuff is far superior to this but YMMV. Definitely nice to see efforts like this though.... :) @Darrell: Your channel is great - always fun and engaging and occasionally informative. But one thing I have noticed is that you appear to regularly omit key details about some of the products you showcase. In this case, the fact that the Zero is a Kickstarter item would seem to be a critical point to mention. Along those lines, it does seem that provide a bit less transparency inre: sponsorships, etc when demoing gear. I am not implying anything malicious at all. Still, it would seem to be proper to fully disclose whether you're purchasing all this gear directly or you're getting the gear from the companies and whether or not there are any strings attached with them giving you stuff. All I'm saying is that, these days, with the real, necessary focus on transparency, it might be a good idea for you to clarify in each case. I think we'd all appreciate it :)
@GearGasms4 жыл бұрын
I did a quite obviously non sponsored demo of the PG Spark a week and a half ago if you like straight up no BS. That was run like a Kickstarter without being one and no disclosure to the customer. So many of us got pretty bent about that. I did a more positive and in depth review of the amp last Friday but it’s still very clear that I only demo what I buy. I don’t begrudge the larger channels doing the demos like these- my channel is just for fun and not my living In anyway. But yeah there’s a gap between tiny amateur channels doing low quality reviews and the big channels who get free stuff do do more of a demo.

The preamp is really just 3 dirt pedals that are very good but there are conventional stomp boxes as good or better. The little tube thing is a good idea in theory but it does not do much unless you crank the amp.I played one for two years then sold it and got another Plexi head and an attenuator. It is all about practical applications but if you go that way a modeler has more plus than negative. A better idea would to use a real 12ax7 style preamp with Bluguitar amp section. It could still be about the same size it would just weigh a bit more.

The reason nobody knows abut this amp may be that it doesn't exist - at least not for the average Joe to buy. Thermion is doing some kind of crowd funding thing and to get one of these, you have to wait to sometime next year. There was an option to get it "already" in October this year, but that's gone now.. It seems like a really nice product, but I don't really see the point in sending it out to youtubers like Darrell this long before you can actually buy it. It's not like NAMM. It just makes customers angry and frustrated. As for the product itself, the only negative remark I have is that it ought to have a switch to disable the bulit in cab sim. I know Thermion prouds themselves of making an all analog product, but many other analog amps have this feature, like my Fender Bassbreaker, and I use it all the time since I get a better and more flexible result using IRs in Two Notes Wall of Sound.

So from what I've seen tested with great sound and on sale for small money - amp, cab and mic modeling has not only come of age, but also can be had for a dime a dozen in 2020. For this reason, I feel fine going through a Mooer, or a GoPod, directly through my mixer, maybe with an H9 spliced in into my studio monitors or PA speakers... This amp is neat, but not for me - I'm not purist enough to forgoe the greater flexibility of a GoPod or similar.
