She is breathtaking, even when stepping into the territory of "'acting cute". He simply doesn't have the acting skills to stand up to her. His voice isn't bad, just boring. No color to it. Her presence holds my attention tho.

I strongly disagree with the directorial choices, but for anyone to say that the actor playing Matt is a lesser talent than that playing Luisa is ridiculous. To me she has an overly mature voice for the part (though clearly a beautiful one). But he is every bit her equal in talent. It's the director's cartoonish choices that ruin this scene at all that and the bum notes from both pianist and musician. I speak as a 4-time musical director of this show and also as former "Matt", as well as having seen the OG production at the Sullivan St Playhouse in 2000. The actors are wonderful, it's the direction that has let them down.

“Waste” is a dismissive and cruel slur. These days, if a male lead sings this song as written with no affectation and assured masculinity, it’s a win for me.
