I remembered something like that... It's been Negative Temps here, so I still start out with hot water for my chickens, BUT, the distance from my back door to my chicken coop is a good bit, and by the time i get there & pour it into their waterers, it's barely warm. lol.

Hint from a Brit. Wear rubber washing up gloves under your warm gloves on bitterly cold days. That way when doing waterer, etc, if your gloves accidentally get wet, your hands stay dry. Also, I think your hoses are mostly underground, but on days when it is below freezing here, we put manure on any over ground hoses..toastie 😁

Back in the day, the old folks (some where between 20 and 200, I was young) used to pile barn cleanings around pipes sticking up out of the ground; even frost free types. It made for a predictable spring clean up but for the most part neither pipes nor thier underground connections froze up.

Goats will love a dirt mound too. We had one and our goats played "King of the Mountain" on there for years. Was hilarious to watch them. We cleaned a spring/stream out running through our pasture and hubby was going to spread the dirt on our garden but then we saw the goats playing on it and we just left it alone. Cheap entertainment for them and dogs. Your dogs love it b/c they can see the farm from there. That's what they do.

I am exactly the same about wanting to do things for myself and not asking for help. But I am over 70 now and there are some things I just can't do anymore. I have found I have to ask for help a lot more often than I would like. You'll find the same happens as you get older. I would advise against taking the boat out on the ice unless it is a completely flat bottomed boat. It could still tip over and dump you out if it breaks through the ice.

Jason & Brooke buckle up…this is a long one 😄! I’m a human who takes Mobic aka Meloxicam. PLEASE reconsider your choice to titrate down on Matilda’s dosage. IT’S TOO SOON. *Please* reconsider keeping Matilda on it for 6 months to a year! If you decrease the dose now, Matilda’s inflammation will increase again, increasing her pain again, limiting her ability to use the leg again. Please don’t make the mistake so many of us have by thinking “I am (in this case she is) feeling/acting so much better so I guess the medicine isn’t needed anymore.” Matilda will experience the most improvement by being able to use her leg normally over a *significant* period of time as it heals. While Meloxicam is usually considered for short-term use, it should be used as long as needed to provide comfort until the area is completely healed. (Several years for me.) PLEASE reconsider keeping Matilda on it for 6 months to a year!
