The Farmers Boys were ploughing the fields before The Smiths, Divine Comedy, The Housemartins. Need I say more…..

I did everything to try to get this single into the top 40. I bought the single and their album With These Hands. Got to no.44 an absolute pop tragety.

Likewise! I bought the picture disc single, AND the 7'' that came with an insert giving you a chance to win... Baz's? Frog's?... one of them, anyway... Mini. ''Phew wow'' was the bigger surprise, for me. Stunning song, plenty of airplay at the time - also bombed =(

This really should be Norwich City F C's theme tune. Makes me smile every time I hear it. Norwich had many really good bands in the eighties.

@@revol148 I'm a big fan of Norwich, both the football team and the city but famous for music the place isn't. Cathy Dennis and The Farmer Boys is about it, I think.

@@lewis72 Cathy Dennis - now that's a name I hadn't heard since she last graced the charts back in 1991 ! Agreed - I love Norwich also - I last stopped off there to change trains after a staycation in Cromer during the lock-dock way, way back in the autumn of 2020.

Those singing sheep... No wonder British bands don't always make it; no-one else understands our sense of humour. Saw them at Dingwalls, Hull, 1984; taped the album. I was at the university at the time. Thanks for the upload, now feeling old...

I am a Filipino and the Farmer's Boys video for this song has some reference to Cliff Richard's performance of this song from his TV special Get Away With Cliff. In his performance, there were sheep likewise....also the wacky sense of humour on both performances.....also the green grass background....it has a lot of references.

cliff richard (sorry to say) song used in series "heart beat" series 7, episode 12, thats how I came over this brilliant version, that I remember with great joy from the hay days back in the 80's =))Tnx for uploading! Made my day

I remember encoding this, and the other 2 Farmers Boys videos, back in 2005 for the Farmer's Boys website. Stan sent me his VHS video and it took me ages to capture using the hardware I had at the time! Thanks for keeping the site going and posting my vids Rach. I've re-captured 'In The Country' on my KZbin channel (from my old Now 3 video!). As I no longer have Stan's video, I can't re-do For You & Phew Wow! (sadly). Take care, Colin...

I was at Bungay High School in same year as Baz and Frog. Spent many an hour with Baz in pubs in Bungay and Halesworth. Last time I saw them live was the anti poll tax gig at Norwich Arts Centre in 1990 ? They should have made it bigger but they did not really care. So much better than garbage created by cowell these days.

Absolutely obsessed with this song at the moment- really catchy and summery - it should of been a huge summer hit. It has a similar feel to Happy Hour by the Housemartins. Very addictive listening. Who is the actress in the video? She looks familiar but can’t quite place her face.
@lewis724 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remembered this song a short while ago and was 100% convinced that it was the Housemartins but was going crazy that I didn't see it listed on the Housemartins' Wiki Discography page. The song doesn't have its own Wiki page, so couldn't find the recording artists there.

Someone please listen to Belle & Sebastian's 'Wrapped Up In Books' and tell me the chorus sounds exactly the same as 'In The Country's' chorus. The Farmer's Boys were such an obscure band that I doubt anyone else has noticed the obvious similarity between the two.
