We pick up an antique 1920's Hoosier cabinet for the room with the wood fired cook stove. I burn the cook stove more extensively and cook french fries in it. Cooking lunch on the Thor Kitchen 2 burner Stainless Steel Portable BBQ grill. Cleaning up in Melissa's future pottery studio.

Thinking lately about your new stove has been reminding me of some old stories i read as a child. My dad used to find me old books at yardsales and I've read books that were 100 years old. I was remembering a story about a little girl who talked her mom into putting the Christmas decorations in the kitchen where it was always warm and cozy from the stove, rather than in the parlor where it was always chilly and never really homey. The baby Jesus in the nativity always cold. But the kitchen was the center of the family and always warm and bright because of the wood cooking stove so it made sense to decorate in the kitchen and have Christmas in there, rather than the parlor. Thank you for triggering the memory of that story and a few others that featured wook cooking stoves. 🙂

Thank you for telling that story. I can definitely see how that would be the room everyone wanted to be in because it was always nice and warm.

It's amazing how much technology we have forgotten because it was replaced with newer technology. Your Great grand mother would have been able to run that stove when she was ten years old. We have forgotten how. Great video! Keep bringing the old stuff back!

I have a very similar SELLER's Hoosier Cabinet that had been in a farmhouse near Dodgeville and then taken to our family cabin north of Tomahawk. My model was completely restored and is the Klearfront/Kitchenaire model. It has the roll top cover for the front under the upper cabinets. I have purchased parts and accessories from Kennedy Hardware in Zionsville, IN. The rails under the shelf is where the breadboard slides into. On the right side of the cabinet, there may be a flat piece of steel and a wingnut that holds the wood block for a hand-meat grinder. They are a wonderful piece for a kitchen, family room or office. The HOOSIER CABINETS book by Phillip D Kennedy is a great resource for information.

On the Hoosier cabinet, the two bottom drawers that are metal lined are for unground corn in the smaller and wheat berries in the larger. Check to make sure they aren’t lead lined. Mine were. There is a grinder attachment that fits on the upper part of mine for milling the wheat and corn. I love mine and I hope Melissa has a blast with hers.

That stove is great! Bet you could bake some nice bread in it. My Grandma had a cookstove when I was young, back in the 50’s and I’ve seen a couple of KZbinrs who have purchased new wood cookstoves as preppers, in case old Joe takes away our gas stoves! My husband has a fit that you don’t put that old tractor inside somewhere. He’s a big IH fan. Thanks for your video’s, we enjoy both channels. Time for some more cooking from Melissa, and maybe she could show us how to make pottery.

Amazing how easy we have it today. There was a lot to learn on how to operate a wood stove, not to mention the work to provide the fuel. We tend to think we're so technology savvy these days, but I'm sure a person of today would be totally lost on how to operate the tech of the past.
