Joe, I can see why you want the "Bobcat". Trying to grade the garden with a ATV snowplow works, but is the long way around to a solution. Hopefully your were starting the forklift to be able to sell it. Good Luck... The place is looking good!

I have feeling that your garden is going to do great where you've kinda moved it to. We did raised beds here, used landscaping timbers. Been feeding the dirt chicken manure. Everything's doing great. We've had things blooming early here in Ohio. Are you seeing anything blooming early in Minnesota? Have already picked strawberries and blueberries are almost ready. Never seen blueberries this early before here.

The pea fence may need to be higher. My peas grew to 15 feet

This variety only grows to 26 inches. It says that no fence is required but I like having one anyway.

As an extreme animal lover it botherd me how you TOSSED THE BABIES into the chicken tractor==a couple hitting the light--they were sooo scared- I EXPECTED MORE FROM YOU
@NorthernSeclusion4 сағат бұрын
Oh well, I have been raising chicken for over 40 years. Some people hate it when people catch fish and toss them back instead of gently putting them back. The morel of this story is?? There will always be haters and no matter what a person does someone will find something wrong with it. I have found that just me being me is the only way I can do videos. I will continue tossing the baby chicks.

I totally understand that it looked a little rough, but knowing Joe, I don't think he meant to be mean. He was working fast to keep them from escaping. If the door was bigger, he would've put the whole cage inside the tractor and let them get out on their own. A little more patience would've been nice to see. It was clumsy but not abusive. Right? Joe's a good dude. Let's give him a break. 😊

Why are you working on so many different projects and not finishing the guest house?
@NorthernSeclusion4 сағат бұрын
Because the other projects need to be done first. If I finish the guesthouse and not plant the garden, we will have no garden at all this year. If I finish the guesthouse and not plant the back field, when the cows get here I will not have enough good pasture for them. Not many guests come here but that 40,000 dollar investment will be a hundred thousand dollar return someday when we sell.

They are treated lumber. Lifetime guarantee they will not rot. It would be stupid of me to use any other type of wood for posts except pressure treated lumber.

Joe we have Always done our beans 8 inches and the corn 14 inches but that is on a 100 acers of land tho.. If you can find a big corn filed some were near you take a tape measure and walk in filed and measure the stalk to the next stalk.. If you have any farmers near you that plant corn..
@NorthernSeclusion4 сағат бұрын
The directions on the package said 9 to 12 inches. I have done them as close as 6 in previous years but 8 seems better and it is an easy number to keep doubling in your head as you work down the tape measure. Bean directions on the package say to plant at 3 and thin to 6. I have planted them as close as 1.5 inches in the past but have found I get a great yield doing them at 3. Like you pointed out though, when you have huge amounts of land, you could change those numbers and still get enough plants in the ground for what you are looking for in a return.

@susannepatriot62644 сағат бұрын
Melissa is very hands on around the farm. She doesn't like to be filmed. This is Joe's channel. Honestly, I think their relationship works because they know how to give each other the right amount of space to do their own thing. You know what I mean? It seems to be working. They've been together for years. 😊

Hey Joe, a suggestion for you. Instead of burning your cardboard, why don’t you lay it down as a weed barrier and create a path around the fence live with cardboard and wood chips or gravel on top? Or get a border of weed mat around the fence line. Way easier to more and having to deal with weeds all the time

For the amount of subscribers from all your channels, it’s too bad you couldn’t get a sponsorship from one of the tractor manufacturers for a nice 35-50horsepower range with a cab on it or trade the telehandler for something with a nice loader, rototiller and different attachments. I know that you have probably heard this all before and you have your own plan so I will put my two cents back! Have a great evening!

My neighbor behind my property has cows and he just runs barb wire but his posts are 6 feet apart. My other neighbor has many cows as well and sometimes they get out. But he is working on new fence all the time. My place is also fenced but with 6x6 for posts. Cows are pretty strong and so they will find a way out if that's what they want to do. It's better to over fence than under fence. You know with cattle going to the tent will have to be limited cause they need hay in the winter and plenty of water.
@NorthernSeclusion15 сағат бұрын
I usually only go to the tent once in the winter and one 1200 pound round bale will do 20 to 25 days for one cow. We will have 2 so 10 days at the least. I am never at the tent more than 4 days. Melissa can easily do the water.

If you need more hay you should check with retired farmers in the area. Many want their fields cut. The deal would be that you hay it for the hay. I know guy who did it for several old farms for heor his beef cattle and sold tractor tailers full to a mushroom former. You only need to find enough to handle what you need for your cows
@NorthernSeclusion14 сағат бұрын
We will need 20 bales to get us through the non grass months. We want to have 25 to 30 bales here prior to winter. 1200 pound bales of good hay, you can buy for 60.00 a bale from several places here. If I had the equipment I would look for something like you are suggesting but at 60 a bale it will be easy to be ready prior to winter.
@TheDrPopEye16 сағат бұрын
Are you going to build a barn for the cows?
@NorthernSeclusion14 сағат бұрын
Cows do not need a barn, they just need a shelter to get them out of the wind and elements when a bad storm comes in. Nothing heated. I have explained in several videos, including this one, where that shelter will be.

I’ve got a neighbor that will not stay off my property. First time he was running up and down our property in his tractor second time he planted 25-30 trees on our property- third time he just mowed with out asking.. would love some advice as he just doesn’t get it!
@NorthernSeclusion14 сағат бұрын
The first time I would have called the police for trespassing but not pressed charges. The second time I would have cut every damn tree down that he planted, seriously I would have. The third time I would have called the police and pressed charges for trespassing. Pardon my language but neighbors are not something I fuck around with. They have 2 choices, we can get along or they can have a miserable life. I make sure what I am doing is respectful and legal. I am a very nice person..... until I am not. You need to be the bigger asshole.
