Amazing. I had learned years ago that not only the 3 sets of 14 were divisible by 7, (number of perfection), but the number of vowels, number of consonants, number of words, and bunch of other things, but this is another great addition.

The geneological list in Matthew, from David to Jacob-Heli (spanning about 1000 years) contains 27 generations of 40 years each, so as to comply with the 40-year royal generational standard. Luke, on the other hand, gives 40 generations at a more comprehensible 25 years each. Hence, Luke places Jesus in the 20th generation from Zerubbabel, whereas Matthew places him in the 11th generation. Matthew & Luke used 2 different ways of counting the generations.

The Christ being the 42 doesn't need to be about resurrection. It can simply mean that Jesus, son of Joseph at his birth was not yet endowed by the spirit of God the Son, but that this happened later at baptism ("This is my beloved son.", etc.). Luke even gives genealogy right after baptism that goes all the way to God, so it makes sense.

Might be a bit difficult to push the Spirit argument too far since he is conceived by the Spirit at the onset of his life. Moreover, his conduct in the temple at 12 years old, teaching the teachers and so forth, is hard to account for apart from the Spirit.

A very important question I have, in the 2nd phase, Jeconiah spelled in hebrew I have found unreconcilable and incorrect for spelling it. What am I doing wrong? I can only find spelling for Jeconiah that is at a value of 50 with an extra Yod. There is no spelling of Jeconiah that exists with a singular yod. Please show me why the spelling is correct and an example of why it is. I am extremely frustrated trying to reconcile this. This is driving me crazy. PLEASE explain why the spelling is right and if so can you show me where it is used for this name?

So does Matthew follow Mary’s line and does Luke follow Joseph line. It’s hard to see why the names are different?. Thx you
@scripturethroughancienteye1509
@scripturethroughancienteye1509 10 ай бұрын
No they are both following Joseph's line. Luke is avoiding going through Rehoboam because of Isaiah 11:1-2, which says the tree will be cut down but a shoot will come out of the stump. The line of kings is cut down after Solomon's unfortunate reign from Luke's perspective, so he goes about the genealogy through a different line (Isaiah's "shoot"). This will resolve at least most of the differences, but not all of them. For example, both genealogies have Joseph's father and they both give him a different name. Some are satisfied saying that one name is literal (Luke's) and Matthew's is symbolic (Joseph the son of Jacob as a replay of Genesis and as capturing the theme of dreams that is so prominent in Matthew's Christmas narrative). This of course will be bothersome to those who want a strictly historical genealogy, but Matthew is not this modern or this boring. He is using this genealogy to say something that transcends history. The genealogy might be a mixture of fact and symbolic truth. Ancient historiography is different than our journalism.

My understanding is that Matt 1:16 has a scribal error and shoud read "Joseph FATHER of Mary". It would be interesting if the Hebrew words/numbers could be recalculated with Joseph as 40, Mary 41 and Jesus 42. Thanks for an understanding why Matthew dropped some names. However, independent of any reasons, Matthew gives forth a list of names and SAYS his list should be 42 long (3 groups of 14). I don't see Jesus being listed twice in that list. As for Jeconiah. Has anyone considered there were TWO Jeconiah's? Jeconiah son of Josiah whom Jesus is descendant of, is NOT cursed. Wereas the Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim son of Josiah is Nephew of the other, is the cursed lineage.

Honestly, I don't think that the author did all of this alone. This is truly evidence of divine intervention. The Holy Spirit. He probably meant to put some of these unique jewels in there but, how does he make everything match and, tell the truth at the same time. He tells a story with this genealogy. Listening to Ray Vander Laan is what had me look this up. This genealogy is telling us that Yeshua is God. All of the 7's and, the connection to connect everyone together. Amazing.

Paul's claim that Jesus was "from the seed of David " contradicts the genealogies of Matthew and Luke in the gospels which cannot allow the real Jesus (a rabbi from whose heroic life the gospels were fictionally created) to be born of the flesh. Matthew has a longlist of begetting but refuses to let Joseph beget Jesus. Luke states that Jesus was" supposed" to be the son of Joseph.
@scripturethroughancienteye1509
@scripturethroughancienteye1509 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Paul does not say whether the Davidic line is reckoned through the father's or mother's side, or both. Since he does not provide his view on such matters, there is not a necessary contradiction here, only a possible one. As for the Gospels being fiction, there is always a debate in scholarship on the historiographic approach of the Gospel writers. As far as the field is concerned, very few scholars, liberal or conservative, accept a full fictionalized account or a full historical account. Many of the events and sayings of Jesus' life stand up to several of the criteria in the historical Jesus research. I think that Jesus' accounts are in the style of a Greek bios, and thus heavily historical, but they have been stylized with patterns from Israel's Scriptures.

I'm always surprised that everyone misses the 13. Jesus is 13 on the 3rd table. No mention of the six sevens: 6 x 7 = 42. 5:26 "Sweet girl named Jezebel"? Really? One of the most evil women in the bible. That's just wrong! I'm not buying the 5's explanation, too contrived, or the women's explanation. I believe that the women, the mothers, represent God's Mercy or Grace. Forcing "Christ" into the 42nd position might make the numbers work, but there are too many problems. One of the problems could be that Matthew might have been too fixated on the numbers when he should not have been. It's all too contrived, too forced. A square peg in a round hole. If Matthew was correct, we could plug in Luke's genealogy the same way. I dare you to try the numbers on that one. This subject is also fascinating to me because in a way, this is my genealogy as well.
@scripturethroughancienteye1509
@scripturethroughancienteye1509 Жыл бұрын
My explanation on the women being chosen despite their socially precarious circumstances is intended as a lesson on God's mercy. Contrived? How? Gematria is common in the ancient world, and here it works in ways that can be checked through two methods: adding the tables and by multiplying their emphasized character with David. Remember, it is not the reader who says divide it into three sets of 14. Matthew himself tells you to do that. I think the real trouble is that the modern reader has a hard time entering into ancient mindsets. In the modern world we just don't use numbers this way... And no, to say this works in Matthew so it must work in Luke is incorrect. I don't know how much of this you have watched, but I insist that Matthew has made numerical arrangements to introduce unique characteristics of his gospel. And yes, Luke does have his own numerical lessons, but they would hardly need to be Matthew's.
@leericmarvin
@leericmarvin Жыл бұрын
I support and agree with the "socially precarious circumstances" of the four women mentioned in Matthew 1 preparing the reader for Mary's situation. But the correlation to Mary is much stronger. In that Matthew 1 is actually Mary's lineage!
@archangel_one
@archangel_one Жыл бұрын
@@leericmarvin "Correlation to Mary"? So you think because Matthew mentions these other women, that he's trying to tell us that this is actually Mary's genealogy? One must wonder why he didn't just tell us. Incidentally, both genealogies separate at a certain point. It's at that point that my family's genealogy separates, too.
