Great video. So educational. I'm trying to repair a jazz pickup that has 3 wires and a copper foil tape soldered around outside. There "were" three areas on the pickup where the coil wires were protruding to the eyelets. they are all broken off. I'm thinking this was a "coil taped" pickup. Is it possible there was a first round of wire, then wrapped to an eyelet then another winding over that and wrapped to another eyelet ? And the original starting wire has its own eyelet. It may be impossible to retrieve enough wire from the first winding to get around an eyelet again but is this a repair worth attempting? These are vintage quarter pounders from early 80s probably. Thanks for any guidance.

Yes, this pickup you have can be tapped. I think it should be repaired, rewind it.

Thanks for the great video! Do you prefer level pole pieces (sound-wise) over raised A and D poles (for volume balance). It looks like you make both (?).

Great video thanks! What would happen if you used three or four magnets for each string? Would you have more volume or power? I know nothing about this subject, so, just asking...thanks!
@coilsboutiquepickups
@coilsboutiquepickups Жыл бұрын
Yes. More magnets will create more volume and power. However, this will also increase magnetic pull so not always a smart choice

Thank you very much, and yes, I have. Plastic or wood is best for me. Metal casings change the tone too much for me, as happens with humbuckers. Brass covers sound really muddy to me...

Hello, this is a great video, really. I would like to try to wind my own pickup, too. Just from sheer curiosity, it does not looks exactly like rocket science, so it might be a nice diy project (but I am very much aware that there are many potential pitfalls awaiting). I would like to ask you one thing, though. Sorry for my bad English, but from which material you make the bottom and upper part which hold the magnetic rods? I was wondering, how many parts can be actually 3D printed in this process... so what it is made from? But maybe plastic is not a good choice for these two parts because of soldering and wax dipping..? Anyway, thanks again for the video.

The more windings the more resistance , but stronger magnetic force which picks up more sound??? Louder more powerful?? Is this how you determine a more quality pick up from a poor one? Thanks
@coilsboutiquepickups
@coilsboutiquepickups Жыл бұрын
Hi, I definitely do NOT determine quality by more magnetic pull. Quality of tone is what sounds good to you.

Thanks for it but what make pickups tome/output/characteristic different? For example, is your pickup give the same sound of Fender?
@coilsboutiquepickups
@coilsboutiquepickups 10 ай бұрын
Hi, pickup's tonal characteristics is a mixture of many variables. Difference in magnets, coils types, amount of turns, design, and so on... Every change affects the tone. Our pickups are not designed to recreate an original fender jazz bass tone. Rather, we aim to produce a more balanced pickup with extra Mids - frequencies that are often lacking from Jass basses.
