What brand of guitar is this (with traditional P90) and what wood are body and neck made of ?
@coilsboutiquepickups3 күн бұрын
It is a guitar built by me, back in 1999, I think. Sapele neck. Afromosia body

Hi, How did you build your wireing machine?
@paulcatanio49254 күн бұрын
You could make one from a bench grinder that has variable speed. Just don't use the grinder attachments. You'll have to create some sort of mounting plate, but you could make one fairly cheap by buying everything you'd need from harbor freight.

My father designed it, and we built it together. The motor is a sawing machine's motor.

Hi, thaanks for the video. Quick question. Are both coils wound in the some direction?
@coilsboutiquepickups7 күн бұрын
Yes, they are wound in the same direction and wired oppositely.

Great video! I typed in a few key word like “guitar back/delaminating/repair” and your KZbin clip was near the top. Clicked on it and you are addressing THE EXACT guitar I’m gonna fix, broken in about the identical area!!! I spent about an hour building 10 of those cute clamps from some threaded rod, wing nuts and wooden disks. A few hours after viewing your video, I’m just waiting on the (Titebond!) glue to dry! Thanks for demystifying this for me!

I wired my pickups to the other side of the selector, and the tone to the outside (opposite to you). Does it matter?
@coilsboutiquepickups10 күн бұрын
It should create (if I understand you completely) an opposite switch direction. For the tone, it might change the linearity or the direction of knom turn, not sure how you wired it. Anyway the guitar should work.
@TheChrisWest10 күн бұрын
@coilsboutiquepickups thank you. It's wired like the one in the video, except the opposite sides of the switch. So, the tone wires are connected to the pick-up point. And vice versa. Anyway, the pick-ups work. One of the tone knobs does not though. I'll have to try again next time I change strings I think! 😂

Thank you for doing the video. The pickup selection certainly plays a part in tone pot choice. A P90 at the neck might sound dark and muddy if highs aren't passed through the electronics. Capacitor value also plays a subtle part.

I am thinking about doing this on a custom tele with a 24 fret board. I wonder if I need to re-route the hole. Or a different hole?

You would probably need a re-route.

Thank you for sharing this. I have to re-glue the spruce top on my Taylor that cleanly separated from the sides at the glue joint after it was dropped. Should I very lightly and gently sand off the old glue on the top and sides before re-gluing so the glue makes a stronger bare wood to bare wood bond?? Thanks
@coilsboutiquepickups27 күн бұрын
Good question! It is good to lightly sand off old glue residue with a 120p if there is any. Usually, there's not much left, and you will notice the wood is quite exposed when separated at these joints.

Whatwould you recommend for a HSS Strat? I am thinking of putting a Hotrail in bridge position of my Strat. I play in a hard rock band
@coilsboutiquepickupsАй бұрын
Hi, I recommend starting with 250k. Usually, rail pickups are bright enough for that.
@ramencurry667223 күн бұрын
For HSS I personally go with 500K and .022 tone capacitor. If it’s too bright you can turn down the tone knob. The possibly annoying thing is that if you forget to turn down the tone knob, it might sound annoyingly too bright so it might be better to use 250K so you won’t have to touch the tone knob….However in some instances, that high 500K frequency might come in handy

Is there a reason you have a blend of wax or is that just what you happen to get?
@coilsboutiquepickups27 күн бұрын
We use a blend because we realized that it creates better proporties. A blend is more stable to changes in temperature, sounds great, won't crack, or "dry" over time.

Great video! 2 questions if you wouldn’t mind. I have a noiseless fender in the neck but installing a lil 59 in the bridge. Should I switch hot and ground in the 59 bc it would be out of phase? Also, is there a need for a ground to the base plate of bridge to the bridge cavity and then ending at the volume pot?
@coilsboutiquepickupsАй бұрын
First question: You will need to connect the pickups and put on some strings to check the phase issues. Second question: I really recommend you ground the bridge when using those pickups.

For those who didnt see, he pulled it towards him slightly. Helps to back the neck screws out just a tiny bit, and this obviously wont work on a set neck/neck thru, for anybody wondering. But for bolt ons, it is insanely helpful.
