What is the story with this 572 Hemi? Why does it keep breaking? What are we doing wrong? How can we do things differently? What can you learn from our mistakes?

well it sucks that you guys had to go through that, but it also shows that no one is immune to getting bad product/bad support, even when you think you've done your due diligence. gotta believe Joe would never have let this happen. and it's a shame the new ownership is tarnishing his legacy.

Welcome to my world. The amount of stuff I've done because someone effed it up, initially, is mind boggling. I've had to learn so many things... Every time I count on someone to do something for me, they blow it and It ends up costing 3x as much AND I still end up doing it myself. 🤦🏼 It's almost made me into a control freak.

I completely rebuilt my '68 Land Rover Series 2A - engine, diffs, new chassis brakes, everything. The only part I didn't rebuild myself was the gearbox. Sent it off to a recommended specialist for a rebuild. Came back looking great. When it finally went back in, it kept jumping out of second gear. Took me ages to diagnose the issue, and I had to partially strip the box down, but in the end, the builder just used the wrong detent springs for the selector forks. An easy fix, but hugely frustrating. Very disappointing when spending all that money, and I wish I'd have done it myself! Can't wait to see the Toretto Charger back at it again! Adrian is the man.

My 540ci blown 871 70 charger build has been a nightmare. The shop that built the block had a snapped drill bit inside the block. The block has to be retapped as well. I spent over $25k and when the shop was contacted by the builder they said “idk” and “it’s not a big deal”. We asked if they would correct the issue and they said ship it back on our own dime and then the eta would be over a yr for them to look at it. I definitely feel your guys pain!

It doesn't really matter what they say.. They were at fault and they have to make it good. When you're a reputable company and you cut corners or make mistakes it's a good way to go out of business real quick. But it seems like everyone nowadays just has that "Could care less attitude" unfortunately. I guess they can afford to be out of work. Just Driven takes pride in what they do, And they try to do it right the first time. All while having a good attitude. That's something you don't find every day.

Hi guys, I got a so called reputable tuning mob to fit & tune a turbo kit for my Corolla & got stung $9,500 for a destroyed turbo & running like a chaff cutter. Justice was going to cost too much for a court case so I did it myself, built a new motor, installed everything & now it actually goes the way it should. In the process I learned a lot. Good luck 🤞 it turns out 3rd time lucky.

The automotive industry is in trouble right now. Cant trust people as much as you used to, hit and miss quality on parts, over promise, under delivering and a overall DGAF attitude. Its nationwide at this point. Had a machine shop do a set of heads for my grandpas 454 k20, installed them and maybe 5 minutes after i got it running the number 3 intake valve dropped and kissed the piston. They installed the wrong keepers. The shop ultimately paid for a rebuilt motor but it took almost 6 months and an attorney.

…just to be clear- the Supra is done, dialed in, and running like a top, right? 🤣😂 Sarcasm from decades ago, when everyone scoffed at modifying an import because American muscle was so “easy” to make power with. We all know the truth is every build has its own challenges and the higher you want to go, to harder it is and the harder you can fall. Thank God you monitored the engine and spotted the signs in time. Trust, but verify.

The Supra has been running like a champ for over a year! We have not had to pull the engine even once. In fairness we built that engine in house so we know what we were workin' with. We are hoping this is the last time this 572 is out of the body.

That's unfortunate, but it highlights an issue that's rarely talked about in the classic car world: the utter lack of truly skilled workshops that can do proper work on older cars. I've seen it happen time and again countless times on my own cars and those of friends. Lots of promises, big cheques... And the car goes worse than before. I don't think there is an easy solution to this problem though, and it pains me to see that beautiful motor with coolant in its bores... It's a disgrace. I hope you'll manage to get it back together and spitting fire very soon, keep up with the great work!

this is what i absolutely hate about the auto industry.. nobodies ever gonna take care of your car the way you would and stupid mistakes happen like this all the time because people just do not care. it really defeats the purpose of shops existing in the first place, you shouldnt have to learn all this just to get a job done.

A factor with certain newcomers to businesses like engine builders, is the Dunning-Kruger Effect. They know just enough to be dangerous. Some self taught techs, just haven't served any kind of meaningful apprenticeship to a master tech. Far too many think Google and YT can compensate for formal training or that supervised learning curve. It's tragic that you got caught in the crossover of and old reliable company and newcomers that just didn't have the chops. Thankfully your own wariness and common sense realized things weren't right, in time to seek real expertise... Before permanent damage was done. It makes you wonder, how many others who bought "built" motors from them during the time you did, also got burned.
@JustDriven
@JustDriven 3 күн бұрын
We understand there are so many shops in the internet age who fall under this umbrella. We were referred to this particular shop from a friend who's had great experiences with them over the years. It just takes one inexperience tech as you said, to bitter the taste. We try to understand one major mistake does not necessarily mean the shop is all bad (or our friend wouldn't have referred us - unless he secretly hates us....).

Ya I got screwed from a mechanics before. I had one shop go through my car and I had paid them to replace some parts, a water pump, clean out my gas tank and install the new fuel pump, when I picked up the car and drove it maybe 10 minutes it broke down, I checked it out myself the next day and found that they didn't clean out the old gas and just poured in a gas additive, so it burned out my new fuel pump. I had to order another fuel pump, pump out the old gas, clean the tank and do all the work.I was a mechanic at one point but didn't have the time to do all the work. The kicker was I was giving the work to a friend that I knew since elementary school, I got lied to, had to pay for parts I already had bought, paid for labor that I had to redo and I lost an old friend,. From my experience I rather do the work myself because I know it will be done right and I trust it, it's very hard to trust mechanics because I've been lied to and ripped off a few times. so lesson is if you know how to do the work just do it. Ya having the time to do it is the hard part, especially when you have a busy work schedule.
