I'm pumped you were able to find a decent shape one. I really contemplated for a few days if I wanted to try and see if you wanted mine. Unfortunately, I'm over $65,000 into my build and still have more to go. I even started my KZbin channel solely to document the build! I just couldn't get to a place mentally to punt it after I've put so much work into mine. Even better you were able to find a "U" code and that you can do it some justice with some quality go fast parts. Mine, also a U code has a 440 with a 8-71 roots blower. You guys are going to be light years ahead with the budget I'm sure you guys can throw at this. This might be the the video series I'm most excited for to date! Heres a few things that I did to help with the issues you guys may be having. Tanks inc GPA-9 in tank pump to give me plenty of fuel (in the stock tank) 1200hp Dual FiTech US Car tools bracing level 2 (no mini-tub) Dana 60 with a 3.54 suregrip Wilwood Big brake kit (front and rear) QA1 level 3 handling (tubular front end K member, control arms, shocks) Larger torsion bars (1.06?") from P-S-T Borgeson Power Steering This list goes on.... a lot Also, the cragers that were probably used back them are no longer made new in a custom offset. You can buy them still in the 8" width, which wont be enough. I bought some american torque thrust II's in a 10.5" backspace to get a wide tire for the rear, and a 9" for the front.
@JustDriven
@JustDriven 2 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU for taking the time to share your story. You have an awesome build! Glad you decided to keep moving forward with it. Great information on the issues you encountered...thanks for the breakdown. Bummer to hear about the Cragers, ugh :( We have a shop that can re-barrel wheels (even 1-piece) for back spacing, so maybe there's a solution. We'll see. Good to have you here!
@jeremywillis7407
@jeremywillis7407 2 жыл бұрын
Don't have to worry about that because they wasn't Cragar's. They're American Racing Daisy 200's. And they're available in numerous sizes up to 15" wide. But originally they were 15x10's. Easy peasy.. Jegs and Summit sell them all day long. What is hard to find is the original Mickey Thompson ET Streets.. street slicks. They don't make the old design anymore but the new design will work.

Here's a little known fact - Chuck Taylor Racing Engines built the 392 Hemi that was in the original garage scene that's so iconic. The engine ran on alcohol and was manual fuel injected. If you're curious contact them. I talked to Chuck Taylor back in about 2012 or so right before he passed away.

Guys they didn't use the winters shifter or 9inch Ford re until the 4th part! The first film used b&m shifter and stock re. Also chose the correct bug catcher cause it's didn't from the 1st then in the 4th they changed it all up
@jeremywillis7407
@jeremywillis7407 2 жыл бұрын
The actual car had a Dana 60.. It's the strongest diff to hold up to those 440's and Hemi's. And you're absolutely right, It did in fact have a B&M Mega shifter. T handle. The scoop was a Enderle Buzzard catcher and a Enderle 3" injector spacer under the scoop. No nitrous was ever on the Charger.. it simply didn't need it. The engine actually isn't even a 528.. that's a big block Hemi that was used in the 4th film. The original movie was a built 392 Hemi.. just like the Tri power one in this vid hiding behind those other engine's. The 392 Hemi was bored and stroked to 445 cubic inches.

Just want to say, correct me if Im wrong, none of the movie cars were drag cars they just were made to look like drag cars from what ive read and seen through the craig leiberman videos and articles there were 3 chargers for the movie in 2001, one was the pipe ramp crach car that had a 440, the other was the wheelie car which also has a 440 and is now at the volo car museum and the last one i belive was the close up car which now resides in Italy that sports a ford 9 inch and a 528 or 572 hemi with nitrous plates. The engine in the garage charger in the movie was borrowed from chuck taylor racing engines and was put in there. The distributor was in the back because it was a gen 1 hemi, not sure the displacement might have been a 392 or a 345. The blower was a Mooneyham 871 i believe with an Enderle bug catcher scoop. And in the Fast 9 flashback you see an early hemi being put into the car which was a nice touch. The cars that ran these race engines didnt have radiators because than ran on alchohol or methanol which when burned produce less heat than that of burning gasoline. Not sure which edition of the movie cars youre going for with the charger but id you dont want to tub it, you gotta put some track-bars under the leaf springs, as well as tunable shocks to dial in the traction.
