996.2 here. Lapis blue coupe with tip, sunroof, grey full leather, 18s. Bought it for 10 and spent 3 on it so cost me say 13k for a years driving. Having had a full engine rebuild with new pistons and liners, at someone else’s expense, it sounds and goes - amazing!

Its not difficult. If you want the latest car you are going to take a bath. If you can wait a couple of years you can get a car at the bottom of the depreciation curve and enjoy the car then worst case scenario is you break even. Its important to know that regardless what car you drive you will have to store, it maintain it, repair it, insure it, wash it, and fuel it.

With the capital it takes to develop something like that, I don't think that's going to happen, but I do agree that even if the new caymans have an ICE engine, they will be severely handicapped to be able to pass emissions that the old ones will remain desirable.

Ive been lucky and have a few. I’m only slightly surprised by the 4RS. On one hand it’s the most special of the whole fleet, but on another hand it is incredibly loud and focused. Even the 991.2 3RS is more quiet and composed. I expect a number of people that paid ADM did so before driving it- and don’t enjoy the intensity. For me it’s probably the most unique of the fleet and won’t get sold for a long time.

3 hear old taycan is the sweet point for a 2nd owner to buy. It has taken the biggest ammount of depreciation and then quite stabilises and depreciates normally . A perfect condition 3 year old is going to save you 50-60% off the initial price

@ No one has a crystal ball of course, but a 996 Turbo S Manual is a rare car and values have proven to be stable during turbulent economic times and command a significantly lower premium than the 997 Turbo or any GT3 product. I would argue that the 996 Turbo S is more special than the 997 Turbo. The 996 GT3 or 997 GT3’s are rare and desirable beasts and will always hold their values well - but also command a larger investment to get in to one in the first place. I think relatively speaking, your 996 Turbo S will increase more in terms of percentages over the next 5-10 years than a 997 Turbo or GT3. The market is starting to wake up to 996’s as good ones become harder to find and nostalgia tax is applied.

There are two Fiskars in there and two Taycans along with various other aspirational rubbish. It was lateish on Saturday afternoon and the three owners/sales persons were stood outside looking very bored. When they go to the wall at least the bend won’t be full of secondhand cars. Taycan….. just why? Unless you’ve PCP’d it against your small insignificant company to look impressive at your local pub or the school run…..

Don't think you won't lose money on a non depreciating Porsche. Often you need to pay for expensive parts/services just to sell them and any dealer will always take a 10 to 20 percent cut. So selling one will always cost you thousands (from experience!)

Very interesting, but the devil is in the details. First, I’m not able to tease out the effect of age. Perhaps seeing this data sliced by vintage would be useful. For example, the 987.2 generation is up to 20 years old and probably at the bottom of its depreciation curve. Had you bought this car 10 years ago you probably would have been reasonably unhappy for the following 5 years if resale was a goal for you. Second, this data doesn’t match my (admittedly) n=1 experience. I purchased a base 2019 718 Boxster as a CPO in 2022 and just sold it, two years later, at a 25% loss. The market was very top in summer 2022 and corrected quickly. My experience does not match the data presented here. My point here is that while the data is interesting to see I don’t think it’s fine-grained enough to make an informed decision about a specific model.
