UK Car market is kinda whack though. Living here, you can get a LOT of car for your money nowadays, we have an insane lease market, people love a good lease and they justify it as avoiding depreciation. Buy a 2-3 year old car and you'll be saving 50% in a lot of cases... The fact you can get Mclaren 650S for 75-80k and 720s prices are getting closer and closer to 100k is really nuts. Thats so much car - objectively they're not cheap by any means, they're still super cars but the cost of insurance and running in UK is where Europe beats us out big time.

Extremely underrated KZbinr. Excellent breakdown. Not sure if you’ll see this but if you do, question. Do you think we’ve finally hit the regular depreciation curve (not in the COVID bubble anymore?) or there’s still some correcting to do? I’ve been waiting almost a year now to grab a super car but I’m not 100% sure if it’s the time. I was debating a 2018 720s (fully loaded, good price) 2018 488 GTB decent spec, 2022 Ferrari F8. Which one do you consider to be the more stable purchase? Would you buy now or wait. Thanks What do you think the price of 488, 720s, F8 would be in 5 years in USD? Just for fun haha

I got on KZbin because I saw two Taycans at my local dealership for $50 and $55k. I was shocked, isn’t this supposed to be one of their halo cars? I’m not a big EV guy but I have always wanted to own a Porsche. Do these cars have the performance chops worthy of the Porsche shield or are these cars just something Porsche slapped together in a pinch for easy sales like ford did with the Mach E Mustang?

UK depreciation is more than the videos shows...low miler V6's are £60k retail and less private. Harry Metcalfe selling his was a big signal for the market. He got £56k but that was on a part ex against McLaren.

I recently bought a very well kept and well spec'd 488 coupe, paid cash, and have no plans to sell it anytime soon. It's the 6th exotic I've owned and I can't stop driving it and I love it the most and I've owned newer models. The 488 is a very under appreciated car and has aged very well! Don't get scared to pick one up! Buy the right spec at the right price and you can enjoy it without much loss!

Dealer network is shambolic. Lotus HQ strategy is crap after they got rid of Scott Walker. Bell and Colvill are more arrogant that you can believe thinking you should just shut up and buy the car, Brighton dealer has a new bloke in there who phoned me up giving me a load of BS about the values. No one sensible is going to drop 90k on a car resale value of 60k. Lotus upped the price after taking preorders so a load of those orders got cancelled. I’ve been nosing about and they’ve still got the same shit combinations for sale while more used ones come on to the market. Brilliant car but an absolute financial nightmare.

Here in Italy is even worse. I've bought my v6 emira in april above msrp for 115k€. I've sold it in september after 8k km of pure fun with a HUGE loss. It's even been difficult to sell it. I've sold it for 80k with a 30% loss. Now the dealer who bought it is trying to sell it for 97.900€ ..good luck with that!

The depreciation in the UK is ridiculous. It surely can't continue at this rate? It must level out soon. There must be owners who bought them new on finance expecting them to hold some value and be sitting on some huge negative equity loss.
@dlj12854 күн бұрын
Anybody buying any of these types of cars thinking about the money involved, well, you are missing the point of them. Anyone who is worry about depreciation is both missing the point of them, and it is basically an indication that they cannot afford the vehicle. Plain and simple. But then again, that's not all that surprising. Most people buying these things probably cannot truly afford them anyway.

Cars aren't meant to appreciate from new to used unless they are an extremely limited production version...amd even then they arent supposed to immediately go up...

Is the UK depreciation influenced by the competitive finance offered on new cars here? With a decent deposit an Emira is offered at 0% finance, where you could be looking at over 10% on a preowned one. 90k borrowed over 5 years at 0% is the same monthly cost (roughly) as 70k borrowed over 5 years at 11% (I know I’ve ignored deposit here). That would really tempt me to a new one over a preowned if I was going to end up paying the same.

@mattyb16244 күн бұрын
@EvoraGT430 another myth. 23Kg lighter, makes zero difference. That's about one blokes chubby belly. I'm sure the Evora is great since they're similar in chassis and drivetrain, but the Emira is an improvement upon that architecture.

@racewithcal4 күн бұрын
It's the better car though, I had an Evora 400. The Emira is heavier, slower and doesn't sound as good. The typical Lotus enthusiast will value driving experience over looks. The problem is, there's only 3 Evora 400s for sale in the UK at the moment.

Lol strad just sold his for $95k. In the UK market however they're much cheaper. Why? Because they're literally made there and there's way more supply and easier access to them than in other countries. For many other countries they maintain the value or even go up in value depending on how rare they become there. The main depreciation has only just been happening in the UK
